marcello (Nov 10, 2004)
Ok, here's where you can post things/features/etc. you'd like to see on 2draw in the future.
If there's something that bugs you, or something you'd like to be able to do that 2draw cannot currently do, this is the place to mention it. And please, read posts so suggestions don't get made twice. |
Kenshin (Nov 10, 2004)
Oh oh! I know.. They login page loads really slow, and so does the homepage.. Also.. I think you should add regular Shii-painter.. >:D
Ty854 (Nov 10, 2004)
One of the eventual plans for 2draw is an animation applet (like easytoon), but I don't think very many people here have teh SKILLZ to actually make anything interesting. :-)Easytoon! |
staci (Nov 10, 2004)
erm, can we make suggestions about the applets too? like the fact that you cant cut and move anything in lascaux after the first edit?
spiritdweller (Nov 10, 2004)
sound! music? something!
Zinc (Nov 10, 2004)
more layers on paintbbs. HUZZAH.
marcello (Nov 10, 2004)
No suggestions on the applets please. I can't really touch anything besides lascaux, and I don't want to touch lascaux.
kenshin: define "regular shi-painter" 2draw has the only shi-painter there is... |
staci (Nov 10, 2004)
oh yeah..batch memo deletion. more skins. or at least one more..something reddish. ill think of more.
Childlike_Vampire (Nov 10, 2004)
Well, I know you just said you don't want to touch lascaux, but all I want for christmas is animations for lascaux drawings. *noddles*
Kenshin (edited Nov 10, 2004)
Nevermind.. I don't care about the first shii.. >_>;;
Zappo (Nov 10, 2004)
Chat with sound when people enter the room like the old one.
spiritdweller (Nov 10, 2004)
I can't get chat to work and I downloaded and installed that whatever the hell it was....
marcello (Nov 10, 2004)
kenshin: if you're talking about novice/advanced mode, you can change that in your control panel.
Anna (Nov 10, 2004)
It works for me
spiritdweller (Nov 10, 2004)
memos work well anyway ;) I don't care
Anna (Nov 10, 2004)
My request is for Cellolicious to make a pink skin! :D That'd be awesome and I'd sooo use it forever!

Gigge (edited Nov 10, 2004)
Since we're indulging in fantasy:
* No limit on when we can delete our submissions....or at least a much longer limit. * Different method for requesting more space. I always seem to pick the mod who is out for two days while 4 others have been on half a dozen times. It's a small irritation, but waiting can disrupt 'flow' when you're trying to get something done. Perhaps a general place to 'request space' that any mod who is online could access, so we don't have to try to guess who is going to be online when. * Optional Language Filter * Optional Anime Filter :) Edit: I should read what I write before I hit submit. |
staci (Nov 10, 2004)
awesome space suggestion idea thing gigge..i think something is in the works for that perhaps?
anime filter. simply brilliant. |
spiritdweller (Nov 10, 2004)
I don't think it's nice to filter other people's work, that means something to them... sorry
mazi (Nov 10, 2004)
*needs a change of pants* zappo?!? :O
and i think theres a new thing going in for the requesting more space/getting mods to do stuff, isnt there cello? |
evil_cloud (Nov 10, 2004)
do a competition of skins, or logos, or whatever....
Gigge (Nov 10, 2004)
Wasn't there a 2Draw logo contest? Is it still on-going?
me007 (edited Nov 10, 2004)
one thing you could add to lascaux, (i know.. i read) but like a size indicator so that you can see how large your picture is getting as you draw as opposed to posting it and finding out after the fact that you have run out of room on a picture edit: oo and a setting where we can lower a piece of work from a board.. so that a mod doesnt have to.. like if you dont think a picture turned out for the boards requirements.... then u could move it down and loose like.. half the points you usually do when a mod moves it.. I donno.. just an idea
staci (Nov 10, 2004)
the logo contest was for tshirts.
*looks around for my shirt* oh yeah! that never happened too. -.- |
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 10, 2004)
Don't touch the lascaux.
Pantera (Nov 10, 2004)
Well, here are me wishes..... I wish that I could see all of my drawings, I have no idea why I see some and not others and it is not my pc, I know that much. Lascaux is a great applet especially if you are good at drawing, and if you are not (like me) you can still do some cool drawings :) I would like to be able to delete some of my own drawings without penalties, and I think what Gigge said about language filter is also good, it would be up to the individual weather or not he/she would want to see it. I for one do not like to read posts with so much bad language.
sal (Nov 10, 2004)
i agree with a longer deletion cut off, but i dont think artists should be allowed to delete older works as they show progression and are a gd learning tool...
Xodiak (Nov 10, 2004)
Hehehehe... is it possible to view drawings based on their rating? Like a link to a board with drawings from all the basic boards, but only of a specific rating... Also, is it a good idea to rate each revision individually? Oh and I love 18+ drawings! >:D
|XOD| |
Gigge (Nov 11, 2004)
I was so busy whining about the other stuff, I forgot to add:
* Search feature. The number of images and posts/comments is rather large now. It would be nice to be able to search by image title and/or post full-text. Sometimes it's fun just to do a search for 'eyes', 'butterflies', or 'clowns' and compare technique, etc. |
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Nov 11, 2004)
oh yeah... batch memo deletionI'm with Icats on that one... there are literally hundreds of pages of them, and I know they don't hurt anything by sitting there but it's hard to find something you want to refer to later if you've left it there because of a link or something and you have to go back 50 pages. |
marcello (Nov 11, 2004)
gigge: ever tried google? :) just search for site:cellosoft.com 2draw whatever.
you can get away without the site:cellosoft.com part, but that just helps weed out extraneous results. |
thug (Nov 11, 2004)
an image search works too, use Marcello's link and hit image to see his eye search results.
davincipoppalag (Nov 11, 2004)
Ok..someone tell the old guy..what exactly are "skins" I see that all the time, and the only one I know of is the one I have on me..
Gigge (Nov 11, 2004)
Marcello: Yeah, I’ve tried Google -- tastes great with ketchup.
Thanks, Thug. I’ve done that on occasion. I know I can search Google for images, but I’d like a built in search with a nicer user interface and pulls up the specific post, not the whole page unless I want it to. I’d also like an easier way to search the forums. This is a wish list…that’s my wish. *shuts eyes and wishes on the sun (the only star I can see right now)* Dave: Skins just change the way the user interface looks. You can see the ones for this site by going to your control panel and selecting ‘theme settings’. |

One thing to say-MOR3 5K1N5!!!!
evil_cloud (Nov 11, 2004)
raise teh canvas limit (of beginner and intermediate) would be veruy nice
I knew that was beginner http://cellosoft.com/2draw/view/32222/ Why i did put it int intermediate? because limit in beginner is 300 and in intermediate 500 So why making mods have to check boards for something we all know? EvilCloud for president! xD |
Ty854 (Nov 11, 2004)
Im not sure if you forgot or something, but remember...this is a dictatorship. No presidents.
Turtlebuster (Nov 13, 2004)
i would like to see a more active forum. i like discussion and aside from the flood of voices that occurs when a new thread is made, there's literally days bewteen new posts. so that's a wish for everyone.
and... as unpopular as it may be... i'm not totally oposed to a picture filter system. i don't despise anime, but there is a lot of it. of course it would be pretty lame to have to check a box for each submission that says "anime" or "other" lol? |
TaCO (Nov 15, 2004)
Ty854 I like your Idea for an animation applet. I love making animations. They take me a while to do but If they had an applet for It I would make some good animations. And It be cool to have animation collabs.
And I would like to be able to delete some of my pics, cause I draw alot and I don't want to take up too much of 2Draws file space With my crapy drawings. And I draw aleast 3 things a day on 2draw but I don't sumit them all. I improve fast cause I draw so much. Is there a limit on how many pics I can draw????? And It would be nice If pics wouldn't be moved or deleted before they are finished. And I have trouble trying to figure out what board stuff goes on. |
Hakkai (Nov 15, 2004)
A "No Anime" Option? .. Ouch. Thats hurts my pride... Sort of.
I think the list of mods should be arranged in the order of who is the most active so the people who want more space will know who to memo. That isn't a major change, but it would be helpful to everyone else. Fixing up the chat room to be something where you don't need to use irc or mirc would be nice. I don't seem to use mirc as much as I used to, and not everyone has it. Ohh, and groups or guilds. "Realism Elites", "Anime Gurus", "Gaming Mastahs", "12 Sausage Kicking", etc. I don't know how leaders and getting people to join will be organized, but it sounds pretty cool. |
Gigandas (Nov 15, 2004)
I think what Kenshin means by the "regular" Shi Painter is the original version that they used to have which included a water color tool that pretty much did what the airbrush tool does now.But I don't remember any major differences besides that since I only used the watercolor tool^^;.Just using it as an example to tell you that the version we are using has possibly been upgraded?
Dagan (Nov 15, 2004)
I like the idea to make an animation applet. (will it be like gif animator ?) i just hope if they make one it will be easy to use.

I don't know what to add to 2draw, I mean it's like neat enough already O.o;
What else is there to add? A shoutbox maybe? I don't know... |
Kloxboy (Nov 19, 2004)
Eh...why don't you people just get a fucking deviantart account!
Seriously though, there should be a porn section, not drawings, just porn pics, straight from Marcello's massive collection. |
cheetos (Nov 20, 2004)
no that would be kinda nasty......
Minitsaru (Nov 20, 2004)
I'm unsure if this was mentioned before but I think that an invisible buddy list would be cool. Don't bash it yet because I havn't told you the reson yet! I don't have as much time as I used to for checking 2draw and I also suffer from a bad memory when it comes to names. There are also many artists who's art inspires and it would be cool if i could just click a link to go to their prophile so that i can check up on the posts i missed instead of waiting for the next time I happen to see one of their new images.

Kilala (Nov 21, 2004)
I would like to be able to scan my pictures that I draw on paper on to this website. I thinkit would be really cool to see how people drew on paper and I do think it would be cool to have a buddy list. Great idea minitsaru! XD
mazi (edited Nov 22, 2004)
i havent read the whole list yet, but i dont think scanning things is a great idea. adds a whole new issue of art theft.
-for moderating purposes xods idea would be good. though im sure 18+ boards would have plenty of other uses for the green goblin types. XD -better mod thing.. which i assume is already being done? -more skins! black red and white! :D -some way for non-mods to favorite pictures. im not sure how it would work. but theres some pictures i just have nothing to say about but i really really like them. maybe a section to show the pics with the most "favorites" or something. (similar to the now-showcase but not moderated. and not done by ratings.) -a board in some kinda oekaki poteto style for uber beginners and practice pics so they automatically get deleted after so long, or maybe after so many pics. so a) people stop putting crap in the good boards and b) i dont have to delete the crap and c) people who insist on experimenting and saving have a place to do it. and d) space isnt taken up, as its constantly deleted from the end. (oh and then instead of deleting stuff we can move it there so people whine less when their drawings arent up to par.. they get a chance to save it then.) i think thats about it. wait wait. better theme board too. im not sure how to improve it but the theme board is kinda dead. maybe have a submission thing for themes and mods pick decent ones (eg not like.. "IM SO IN LOVE WITH INUYASHA OMFG!" or whatever else) and then everyone votes on which theme they want for that week? i dunno. oh. and speaking of voting, kasha wanted polls a while back. ....i keep thinking of more to add. a way for mods to view unfinished pics that are ancient so we can get rid of some from way back that arent getting worked on. or at least yell at people to finish if theyre still active. |
method3 (Nov 22, 2004)
Things I want to see:
- Better chat implimentation... right now the IRC server seems to be down so no one can connect, let alone chat. Even if it was up, it's hard to find people chatting since you have no idea if anyone is in the channel. - Better/faster mod controls... - Better animation support for the best applet on the site, namely Lascaux. - Polls in the forums so we don't have these mile long threads about "Do you use a tablet?" or "Hey, do you like peanut butter, jelly, or BOTH?!!!" - A cooler site that is free and has lots of cool stuff on it and stuff for free.... and stuff. |
Knockoff (Nov 22, 2004)
don't know why all the forum topics that are more to the serious always get of topic. Oh well.
Ty854 (Nov 23, 2004)
Ok, when you sign up for 2draw there should be a little checkbox that states youve read the rules. You know like the ones you see when you intall some new software. That way...noobs wouldnt always complain about how there half assed drawings get deleted.
marcello (Nov 24, 2004)
yea they would. n00bs don't read rules.
Ty854 (Nov 24, 2004)
But at least it might help a bit...? Maybe when they want to create a name or whatnot, it directs them to the rules page, then if they click the checkbox at the bottom of the page it directs them to where you sign up... idk if thats even possible....
inatyrb (Nov 24, 2004)
i like many of the ideas. like o, i don't know who it was but the freinds list idea. i thought of that when i first joined. i don't think that there is really anything we can do about n00bs not reading the rules... i mean we don't watch over them and force them to read it, so. and of course i agree with everyone else when it comes to more skins. i'm thinking themed like skins, you know.. like.. hm... pink for those that like pink, black and red, like earlier suggested. maybe even season skins, so some people can get into the holiday mood. i don't know.

Kilala (Dec 8, 2004)
That good idea! Why can't we change are status? It'll be REALLY cool if we could to fit your mood on that day but only once a day.... THAT'D BE AWSOME!!!
davincipoppalag (Dec 9, 2004)
How about a place, maybe in the wiki, with a photo gallery of all the folks here. I know many have posted them in various threads but how about an actual place where everyone is.

That would be nice. Then one of the talented artists could use the photos to paint a giant group portrait. :)

PLEASE MAKE AN ANIMATION APPLET! I'm dieing to do that! I promise everyone nothing short of great animation!
Deformed (Dec 16, 2004)
Mabey a colaberative drawing applet. Like you can draw when other people are drawing and chat at the same time? I think that would be cool. To kinda clear it a little, an applet that lets multiple users go on is and they can all draw together at the same time. With a little chat box on the bottom so you can chat and draw!

Kilala (Dec 16, 2004)
wOOt on that! I want that 2!

well, animation for lascaux, and more skins, and most of the things said, such as the practice board and the extension of the time you can delete your drawing.
2draw is already awesome, and you'd just be adding on unnecessary featrures like the collab applet or picture upload. A paintchat instead of the broken chatroom would be nice. |

i guess...(me still want a refresh button!)

Shanghai (edited Feb 20, 2005)
Why would you want a different name? Kilala is a cool name. Would probably entail changing urls and links too so I'd guess it'd be a hassle.
Anyways, I'm new and signed up 2 days ago, so maybe I just completely missed it, but I don't see any sort of notification system to let me know when someone has posted a comment on one of my images. I've checked everything I can think of checking and I just don't see it, so I'm left having to check and recheck every image to see if there's a new comment or not. Without that I'm left feeling like it's pointless to comment on something older since the person would never see it. Of course I did once lose my glasses and then later found them on my face, so it's possible I missed it... they were sunglasses btw. I kept wondering why everything was so dark out... <_< |
marcello (Feb 20, 2005)
you can view your user board and sort it by latest comments...
Shanghai (Feb 20, 2005)
Well what I mean is that other places I've been there was a message center just for new comments the way you have a memo box here, and I'm just accustom to logging on and automatically knowing if I've gotten a comment rather than having to go to my gallery and configure it. It's not a big deal though I suppose.
Callypso (Feb 20, 2005)
I'd like to see more skins as well, perhaps green. I also like the paint chat idea, but that's probably a lot of work too...and I really like the idea of having a featured artist/picture.
Shanghai (edited Feb 22, 2005)
Maybe it's just me, since I seem to type longer posts than most other people I've seen here except mazi up there, but I'd kind of like this comment box to be a bit larger with more height to it. I'm pretty sure it's not my browser since I think I've logged on with 3 or 4 different ones to see what works best. It'd be easier to type my long-winded posts. I think my longest forum post on any site was a solid 2 pages of text, and my longest comment/critique on an artwork was about the same. I probably won't be doing that here, but not even I can predict myself... >_>
By the way, I used to be part of a club that did full length critiques on people's artworks at request, so that's why I'm used to going indepth with my commenting. |

Shanghai (edited Feb 22, 2005)
I use Firefox for Mac as my main browser, however it does not seem to load the applets here. In order for me to draw anything on this site I have to switch browsers. Same thing has happened to me on other paintBBS sites so it's not just this one, and I do have the latest version of Firefox as well.
Also it's not my computer specifically since the Macs at school, which are newer and better than mine, will not load these applets in Firefox from what I've seen. |
marcello (Feb 22, 2005)
try updating java? dunno how that works on mac, but it seems kinda stupid that firefox on mac doesn't load java.
Shanghai (Feb 24, 2005)
Okay now this one I'm certain you don't have and I've somehow missed. A direct link to the forums at the top of every page sammiched between "browse" and "memos." It's just that having to go to the front page or the browse page everytime I want to get to the forums is one extra page for me to load on a dial-up connection when I could just go straight there with a link. I could bookmark the forum link but it'd just be another one of countless and I'm often not on my home computer. Just a thought.

Gigandas (Mar 8, 2005)
I think it'd be kinda cool to be able to put in a song you like into your user page and it plays on not only that page, but all your user-related links branching from that page. And if it gets annoying, you can just press the stop button. And then if you really didn't wanna hear anyone's music, you could go to configuration and turn it all off.Dunno, thought it'd be cool to be able to listen to peoples' inspirational music while viewing their galleries and stuff. Not that too many people read this thread anymore anyways...
Axil62 (Mar 8, 2005)
Good idea.
Shanghai (Mar 8, 2005)
I think more important than userpage songs would be some sort of modification to the profile box to turn it into a mini-journal. I just sometimes have random thoughts I'd like to share with other people here, but that don't deserve a whole thread for them. Maybe something really good or bad happened in my life and I could make a brief mention on my userpage.
Gigandas (Mar 8, 2005)
I dunno, I mean I know that you'd like that, but I really don't think there are enough serious people here to be writing journal entries in their profile to share...and I say this having looked at profile comments over the past year.
StrawberryYamichan (Mar 8, 2005)
^ Well what Gigandas is true, but I would love to have a mini journal thing in my user page. I can write some serious and thoughtfuls things sometimes to you know ::)

I have non-serious and thoughtless things I can write too. Really, you should have seen this one journal I wrote about pancakes. ;_;
But that's just the point, something like that wouldn't, in my opinion, belong in the forums but having a journal would give them a home. |

Pancakes! Thats funny cause on my livejournal I had a picture of pancakes on the top and my username has the word pancakes in it XD

marcello (Mar 8, 2005)
well, the song problem has some legal issues, so that's out.
Gigandas (edited Mar 8, 2005)
Can't we use a midi format of the song?
-Btw, is this forum really helping?I haven't noticed one yet that's been acceptable. |
marcello (Mar 8, 2005)
it's still not legal. plus midi is annoying as fuck. you must be the only person I know who still listens to real songs in midi form.
Gigandas (Mar 8, 2005)
I thought Alex-Cooper was another game music fan, and those come in midi form too. There's nothing wrong with liking to hear both versions anyway. And since most midis are done on synthesizers, it means that you must find keyboards annoying.Which, well....I don't.
marcello (Mar 8, 2005)
yes, but that's a very limited set of video game music, and most video game music these days is not general midi and does not sound nearly as good as such.
Feel free to get some webspace, upload the tunes, and provide a link. That's basically your best bet. As for whether this forum is helping, yes, it is. I just haven't been commenting on the ideas that are good or I like/might use. |
Shanghai (edited Mar 29, 2005)
I have a few new ideas.
Maybe the point system here might possibly be used as a means of deciding access privledges? On the art community Shadowness they also have a point system like here that promotes activity and interaction, but theirs also determines what and how many special features each user has. So maybe if you came up with a system where people don't just instantly have access to nearly every board right when they sign up but instead had to get past a certain threshold of interaction before being able to post on the higher level boards? I've seen some people sign up and jump straight to the intermediate and advanced boards when their work really wasn't, and building in a delay may give them enough time to get enough feedback to realize that. There's probably some new problems that'd bring up but it's just an idea. How about if the beginner board wasn't the lowest level one, and if there was a practice board under that where images can be posted but they're autodeleted after two days. I'm thinking of that as a way to possibley cut down on the "severely underworked," to put it nicely, drawings that fill the beginner's board that really only took a few minutes anyways. There's times that I know I'd like to just doodle online like so many others here do and I don't always feel like spending a lot of time on something and something like that I wouldn't want to be showing in my gallery anyways, but I still might like to show at least a couple other people. Another thing that Shadowness site has is the ability to rate images. They have choices of 1-10 for what ratings to give and, for some reason, they then cut it in half so it shows up next to the image as a 1-5 scale. Two things are then done with that- The images with the highest rating from the day are posted on the front page in a temporary showcase and the rating itself serves as a form of feedback to the artist of whether people liked it. I know it's kind of copying that site to do the same thing here though, so maybe someone could think of a variation on that that we could use? I think that if we did have any sort of a rating system it'd be best if it was something we thought of ourselves instead of just copying what someone else was doing. *explodes with more ideas* @_@! Also, maybe if we had a forum of some sort where people could introduce themselves it could work to build more community relationships. As it is there's roughly 10000 accounts here as far as I can tell but it's doubtful that of the small portion of them that are active anyone here knows but an even smaller portion of those people. Making it easier to build community ties tends to keep more people more active and, in my experience, generally makes people less likely to insult or argue with each other. |

It would be cool If I could start a pic in one applet and then finish It in a different applet.
Is that posible???? |
Shanghai (Mar 29, 2005)
I agree with derrickewing. If a flat, non-layered snapshot of something could be taken between them then it may cut back on filesizes (if you flattened the history too so the step by step animation wasn't saved), give us more working room through that, and let us take advantage of the best parts of different applets. I really like shi-painter's watercolor tool but I also like Lascaux's layer options, for example.

I wish there was an edit feature on unread memos the way there is on comments. It's cool that I can delete the memo before it can be read but sometimes I'd rather just change a word or fix a mistake than delete it and resend it or send a second one explaining the mistake.

Noremac (Mar 31, 2005)
i have an idea i thought of while reading redpandas entry, we could actually jut have a live community applet, like a paint chat, that people can come here and doodle on, rather then even really post an image, it doesnt seem like hard maintenace or scripting unlike an entire new board, and if we had a community applet, you could just do a clean sweep of it every other day or so. basically, a nice little paint chat for people who wanna doodle and mess around meanwhile they can interact with people and draw with them. i say it lives up to the style and name of 2 draw and it adds much more artistic value then a normal chat room
marcello (Mar 31, 2005)
but we'd need an applet for that. and don't suggest paintchat cause it sucks and I'm not going to install it.

ty854- that was one of the things I said I could do but would rather not if there was a more straight foward way of doing it. It's just because I tend to think of more things right after sending something that I want to add very often and editing would only take one step instead of two. =P

Here's a thought.. how about a page on which thumbnails of all the new stuff posted in the last 24 hours appears. That way , instead of browsing though page after page of mindless junk, you can click on only the ones that are worth looking at. They have this at DA..and at doodlebug.. These days it's very easy to miss a good picture because as soon as it gets posted it gets followed up with 2 or 3 pages of 10 minute "hope u like",,pictures.. Also,,there should be a place when people register that requires them to read the site rules before they can sign in..thoughts anyone?

We have adult room (just post 18+ on any board), we have different themes (check config), we have tutorials (check wiki), but are always welcoming new tutorials from people willing to write them.
As for paintchat, well, we did some practice runs, and I found that paintchat is total crap, insecure, and unstable, and wouldn't be fit to run on 2draw without major improvements. |

I'm not really too fond with the 'DA' idea...I don't know how to explain it but I think it would become sort of a competition of getting more pageviews/watchers than the other person.
And the star ratings...I never really liked that feature on art sites. Again, it could become a competition. |

Deformed (Mar 2, 2006)
Well....It kinda is already a competition....With the "points" you get..

Nothing's stopping anyone from doing that already. However, to use a cliche, too many chefs spoil the soup. IE, the comic will most likely suck ass without some kind of serious oversight/direction by one or two people.

comd (edited Mar 18, 2006)
Something I'd love to see is a multi-pixel sampling brush (like the dropper tool, but samples multiple pixels at a time). It could use the brush setting to figure out what size to sample and even the antialiasing/brush smoothness to form a weighted average. The most opaque areas of the brush could have a weight of 1.0, while the feathered edges could have lower weights.. and then ultimately the weights could be normalized to produce the sampled average. I don't know how complex that would be to add to the code, but I think it would be invaluable since you can sample a fairly large region to get the overall color of it, use a soft brush and then smooth out the entire region with a very well-defined averaged color.
Another thing I'd love to see is a rudimentary pixel pushing (smudge) tool. It doesn't have to be as sophisticated as photoshop's which appears to do like a path distortion on the pixels. It could just be a brush that has no color of its own that simply picks the color you start out with on a mouse down and then drags it with a fading opacity. With small brush sizes, this should give much more organic and lively blends than using the blur tool. Most of my suggestions are based around more easily blending colors in these applets. Edit: Sorry, I overlooked the part in this long thread where suggestions about applets were discouraged. I would be willing to pay a sum (maybe not two grand, but a couple hundred dollars might be reasonable from me). I'm also a professional software developer working in the graphics field so I'd love to help if there's any room for some level of collaboration. Note that I'm not interested in anything beyond improving the software. I have no interest in using or distributing the source code/application for my own benefit or acquiring any sort of trade secrets it might have behind it (I have enough of that to overwhelm anyone as it is in the current system I'm working in). I'm also fairly quick to adapt to new systems, regardless of the engineering quality (and I'm sure Lascaux is considerably better engineered than some of the systems I've had to work in during the past). I'm primarily a C/C++ developer, but I should know enough of Java with respect to Swing/AWT, event listeners, and so forth to quickly make some contributions. I can also respect and adapt to any sort of coding style (have had to do so in the past). |
marcello (Mar 16, 2006)
Hrm, not a bad idea. Using the normalized brush matrix is probably easy enough, question is how it should work from the UI pov, should it replace the current eye dropper, or be an alternate?
A smudge tool has certainly been considered. It was left out of lascaux due to the "oekakibbs effect," and I've never really considered how to program it. I'm not sure if photoshop does a path distortion (if I understand you as meaning some kind of matrix distortion), I think it has something more to do with pulling colors off the canvas based on the brush, and drawing with them at each pixel level. Unfortunately Lascaux Sketch is horribly designed (not at all, it was originally simply a proof of concept applet), and suffers from critical mass (hence not being updated in eons). It would need a serious refactoring before it being even worth extending. I'm planning to release it open source, but I doubt anyone would want to work on it any more than I do. It does not use Swing or AWT, uses a custom swing-inspired gui I wrote for Java 1.1. However, your offer is more than enticing, if you have aim/icq/msn send me a message (see profile), otherwise I can send you some info over email. |

well, i thought about something. How about having one more section in our profile, that everyone can see.
That new section would consist in real/paper drawings that would be LINKED (so, not hosted) from somewhere its uploaded. This section should have an option to make different folders (pencil, ink, realism, manga... whatever you like) I say this because i've seen that some people want to expose real drawings and they have to create forum post that get old, and die. |
