I may call this done, but I'm thinking I might want to smooth a few things out. But in some places I like the sketchy look...

Dunno.

I'd leave it rough in places, it almost looks like a wood carving.
drworm (Mar 3, 2004)
It does have a bit of a woodcut look to it! The sketchy quality is really cool in places (I like the eyebrows a lot) but I would go back and refinish some of the lines, especially the really definite ones of the jaw and nose. The eyes are nifty too... snake eyes? :P

An elephants trunk is powered by 150,000 separate muscles.

This took about an hour & 1/2 less than clock showed, got up to help daughter w/ something & forgot about it, then I clicked on the button from hell in the applet and couldn't figure out which application to undo.. bout an hour later I accidentally undid what I had done and could finish. lol

My very first. Just trying to figure out all the tools. Looks like this will be fun but, I'll need to take some time to figure out how all this works.

But if the ovals weren't there it wouldn't have reminded me of the spiraley mosquitoe thingy at the drive in, and... I figured it had to be someone else in the Mod Squad that deleted it. On the time thing, though, I really think drawings should be judged first on artistic merit, and then if it totally sucks, look at the time spent, see if more time could have made it better, and then decide whether or not to delete it. I'm sure you already do that most of the time, but I have seen some real junk in here that is just annoying to even scroll past, and this one is interesting. Tea, anyone? :)

That's how it is now, look at the rules.

8 minutes, and then 4 minutes. Someone was just messing around with the different tools and stuff. The only real tangible thing is the mushroom, the rest looks like randomly places ovals (are they there for a reason? if so, what's the reason?). What about the colors? Are they chosen for a reason? I think it's deletable material, but I don't know if I would bother actually deleting it (I didn't). The thing that really bothers me is the neon green squigly lines along the bottom which doesn't help the piece at all.

The rules:
This doesn't mean you can't post 5 or 10 minute sketches, but they have to be good 5 or 10 minute sketches, and they should be mixed with pictures you put more time into. Although there is something to be learned from quick sketches in traditional art, we strongly discourage submitting these sketches.
I don't think it's that great for a quick sketch even for beginner stuff.

As for whether drawings should be judged on artistic merit, I think there's still an acceptable "bottom line" as to what is just spam.
jayceepearl (Aug 20, 2004)
I thought the green squiggly lines at the bottom were grass. The ovals (in my eye) were a clay pot & lid to gather the mushrooms. But then, Dejas my sister so I know how she thinks. :) Or maybe not.

On all my time here I draw lousy and half ass (excuse the foul language) drawings. I really wanna try my best on this one walk in a park, inspired by a short story.

Why did someone delete her first pic here? It was done on the beginner board, 13 min, lookedbetter than a good deal of the crap that's on there now. This is probably her first and last time here. I want to share what she had to say to me in a memo "I did it on the beginner board....newcomer board even. Cripes...it was my first damn drawing. Screw this site and these people if this is what it's going to be like. I have better things to do and other ways of expressing myself with my art. " I d...

This is wonderful! Glass is so hard to draw, because very clean glass can be more like a play of light (like wateR) than an actualy object, when drawing, even with refereance, this is a fantastic job!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 3, 2004)
You did a great job on the glass - doing any glass at all for me is a nightmare! This is wonderful.
frappa (Mar 10, 2004)
really amazing glass!!

Eep! If you're posting on the beginner boards, maybe I should just take my tools and shuffle off... <sigh> No, seriously, this is stunning, and I wish I knew how you had mastered drawing glass so believably. <smile> The background is wonderful, though the one thing that seems to detract from it slightly is the lace(?) runner on the chest of drawers - it seems to be done in a different style from the rest of the piece. Regardless, the piece is gorgeous, and makes me glad I decided to browse your user board -- I'm really enjoying seeing more of your work.

Hey! Get in that studio right now, young man, and draw something else! Just one picture a gallery does not make! Nope, I don't wanna hear it, to hell with homework and all that! (And stop staring at my chest, or I'll tell your mother.... ;)

This is a picture of a guy that was trying to show off by playing his bugle with no hands....well his head fell off and that's what he gets. Yup, a real slacker this guy. I guess it's true what they say "if your gonna play a bugle with no hands, you gotta pay by getting a horn jamed in your mouth after your head falls off in front of the old pirate discount store." Yeah, so true, so true.
