until dawn.

Something I don't usually do... "not realism"

The stripes on the face look like shadows of barbed wire. I think that's the coolest part.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 4, 2004)
They are... I wondered if anyone would see that.
Zack (Jul 4, 2004)
I would have posted earlier, but Clox stole my comment. To me the lines across his face and curious texture to the right make it seem like he's unraveling. Nice work!

In May of 1991 Nolan Ryan pitched his 7th no-hitter. I miss Nolan - used to go to alot of his home games when he pitched. It's baseball season!

Roger Clemens..is The Rocket.. Texas Boy who has been pitching for the Yankees (and prior to that the Sox) just came home to play for the home town team.... I dunno if its the Astros or the Rangers.. I dont follow baseball much..(Its Cold here.. Im a hockey fan)...
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Mar 10, 2004)
Of course I know of Clemens, nicknames never stick with me. (And it's the Astros he plays for)

I wanted to paint some fireworks, so I did this from a pretty photograph I found

Most every year I get together with my brothers and we set a good example for all of our children by shooting roman candles at each other, wiring bottle rockets together and holding stuff in our hands until it almost (just almost) explodes, lighting the whole package of black cats and throwing it at the neighbor's annoying dog. It's still not as much fun as when I was little and my uncle would help us build homemade stuff out of gunpowder, foil, matches and stuff. Can't do that sort of thing anymore... it's dangerous.

wohoo! Excellent. Your description reminds me of what I still do, too! :D FUN FUN FUN! I looooove the colors in the water! Just gorgeous!
davincipoppalag (Jul 2, 2004)
Gorgeous work on the reflected colors in the water! The shellbursts are particularly good also!
laurael (Jul 2, 2004)
This is just spectacular looking dba...wow. What G said about the colors reflected on the water...yeah.
The Queen Mary, huh? I was so close to this ocean liner one time, I reached out and 'touched' it.... :] Awesome ship, awesome artistry, dba.
Aubrey (Jul 2, 2004)
I wish I had a view of the fireworks from there lol. Hope they don't get rained out this year.. seems to be a plague here lately :-/

Wow, that's really good. It seems so realistic. I really like the effects on the rocks nearby the puddle. And the reflection of the tree on the water is very well done too. Overall it's pretty good. Good job.
emmamommalag (Jun 22, 2004)
Thank you all. Yes, Super.. trees are good to draw.. and to look at. I love trees, although I've never hugged one. Well, actually.. I probably have!
Anna (Jun 24, 2004)

So purdy DB :) the rays bring the sunlight so much closer and makes for such a dramatic yet purdiful picture.
laurael (Jun 29, 2004)
Love how you did this one...it 'is' very dramatic. Another beautiful work of dba art. :]
Zack (Jun 30, 2004)

haha, thanks Clox. I'll see about Xod.

I was thinking maybe porn sites have good models but I got kinda scared about having my family come in and thinking I was some kind of weirdo. Im trying to find a simple model without any sexual gestures. So natually, porn is out of the question. Arrrgh, I have a feeling this is gonna take me ages.
Kloxboy (May 30, 2004)
This might help, or maybe not

I used these books to better my antomy skills as well better myself as an artist:
The Human Machine by George Briggman - a good book to learn the mechanics of anatomy
Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth - great book and Hogarth is one of the best
50 Secrets of Magic Craftmanship by Salvador Dali - aside from sounding kinda insane at times, it's a great book
Gray's Anatomy - this book is best for learning terms
Anatomy for the Artist by Jeno Barcsay - this has great drawings in it and another good term book
There are a few others I own but those I listed helped me most.
Of course, don't take my word for it. <some of you are old enough to get that joke, I hope, that line is right up there with "...and knowing is half the battle"
Kasha (May 30, 2004)
ohh yay! thanks Clox.
Fin_beast (edited Aug 20, 2004)
Kasha... you are a fucking lamer... :P This rox0rz.
The really soft lines and then the really dark ones really make it work.
Is there a reference or is that from your head? It better not be from your head. :B
I wish I had the style you have. *sigh* *stalks kasha*

You don't want me to pull out my reference for this one.
(Mine has a 6" barrel... I drew it w/ a 4" here because I wanted it this size and couldn't make the canvas wider.)

This style is very nice. Simple, yet expressive. It reminds me a bit of Aubrey Beardsley.

I did a miniature of this 2 1/2" x 4" in oils a few years back so I thought I might do it here too.
