Line art in Lascaux is smoother with the anti-alias, but it's alsoa tad thicker.

yep i did the same thing.. but as marcello, oh wise one showed me, you can do lineart then switch it to multiply (i think) and then put the color in under.. and your safe.

once you have lascaux, you never go back..
Turtlebuster (edited Aug 9, 2003)
I go back all the time, mazi. I like lascaux for it's unusual texture abilities, but Paintbbs is still my favorite when it comes to soft shading. Layers are easy, btw. Just use lots of them (in Lascaux you can even change the layer order by dragging a specific layer above or below another one) and when you start to get used to them, use less.
marcello (edited Aug 9, 2003)
you can change layer order in oekakibbs as well. In paintbbs, there's not much reason, heh. You can move stuff from one layer to the other, but not switch both at the same time.
turtlebuster: I'm assuming you're fully familiar with the difference between opacity and flow in lascaux? flow acts like paintbbs' (A)lpha, and opacity acts like photoshop's opacity. Actually, they added flow in photoshop 7, so it acts like that too, I suppose. :-)

Anyway, the only reason paintbbs may be different is there's a glitch in the color mixing code which causes the 'water color' tool to create some strange, almost dodge/burn style blending effects.

This is fixed in Shi-Painter, the new paintbbs, which is already coded into 2draw2 (and is very neat, I might add).
In fact, as far as basic brush tools, shi-painter is probably superior to lascaux, at the moment anyway. For example, its pen tool (equivalent of lascaux's anti-alias) works great even with really slow (mouse moving) and small detail lines. Something I have yet to figure out for lascaux, but will, eventually, hopefully... (please help!)

2draw2 will save layers on all boards, not just select. The only reason they're not supported now is because they take up space that's not recorded for the total image size.

yse, Marienkind, simon and garfunkel easily qualify as good music, as well as the beatles, of course. there are lot's of great modern artists as well, like Jeff Buckley and Mike Gordon, but Hendrix is one of my favorites (not too unsual). Henrix and Vaughan...

I liked his shoes better in the first edit. they looked like sketchers (which i actually hate)... but anything's better than TENNIS shoes... So anyway, you like bald people, or what? Also, for coloring the stairs in Lascaux, I think it would look fantastic if you used a 5x5 (ish) brush on 150 opacity and 'blend' and simply went over it and over it with only slightly varing the color on your brush. Then go back over it again with a lighter color for the tops of the steps or top center of the steps. EDIT: wow... you really went all out.. did you actually select a different gradient and use a line to make each tiny segment of those steps??
mazi (edited Aug 9, 2003)
uh huh.. and its all your fault i was up at 4am with my face 2 inches from the screen trying to make that look good. hah it was fun times though i might do some more like that..
Turtlebuster (edited Aug 9, 2003)
well mazi, you know that's not what i meant about the gradients... i think you know, but i meant that you could make use of the blend tool to get a nice variety of shades on the stairs wihout actually using more than a few colors on the brush itself. i like the pants a lot, by the way.
Xodiak (edited Aug 9, 2003)
Awesome colouring and lineart! You draw very beautiful and still improve every time. Bravo Mazi! >:D

you sleep on kerosene dampened knives or something? as for my interpretation:
"A Zen Monk betrayed his teachings and sought pleasure through accu-puncture, only to find his hypocritisism a TEST"
i think that makes a certain religious sense...
mazi (edited Aug 8, 2003)
hahaha yes infact i do sleep on kerosene dampened knives.. say are you spying on me? lol

not quite but hey.. and if anyones interested id be up for explaining it but i dunno its no fun that way..
Turtlebuster (edited Aug 8, 2003)
Explain, plz... If i'm watching you sleep, i'd also like to get inside your head. If i didn't, what kind of depraved lunatic would i be? the guys in South Wing A would never let me live that down, and what would the easter bunny think?
mazi (edited Aug 9, 2003)
hah

in the dream for some reason everyone thought i was dead. and my limbs all got cut off and they were about to throw me in the incinerator but i came to and flipped out.. and for some reason they put needles through the joints to keep them together.. as y'know people in my dreams are medically advanced like this. and i had to go around and tell people i wasnt dead and it was pretty irrelevant after that really.. but in the dream i wasnt naked and pale and the needles werent as big but i thought it was an awesome idea for a picture.. and i only now realize there should be more blood.. and in fact i do like bald people since i used to spend way too much time on hair and not pay attention to other things

Hmm... A bit of unfairness with comments.
Merulotte (edited Aug 8, 2003)
There are some rules on certain Oekaki Boards that say that people are not allowed to post tiny little worthless comments, correct? Why isn't that applied here, I wonder... I know it's kind of a big job to eliminate all comments that are below ten to fifteen words, but it's kind of annoying to see some comments such as... "its not much i just thought id draw" "ok thaks for comenting" "it's bad i kno" "yeah good job" etc, etc... I mean, some people post tons of times on single pictures,...

I went down to the website, with 8bit color screen,
I looked at all the images, but then I just screamed,
I got the web safe 216 color palette blues,
I got them baa-ya-aaad.

But if I can't swim after forty days and my mind is crushed by the crashing waves, Lift me up so high that I can not fall Lift me up.- When I'm falling, Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying, Lift me up - I need you to hold me, Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again..."

if I had to draw the two angels that I saw at my bedside when I was really sick with pneumonia, they would look like this, only more concerned looking... but they were this heavenly blue color.. it was so weird... I've often thought about drawing them but didn't think I could do it
dorothyblueeyes (Sep 15, 2012)
reminds me of old magazine illustrations, or cartooning style, with that foreshortening effect.maybe it's the face and nose, too.but very much drowning effect, alright, and reminded me instantly of Michelle Pfieffer (?spelling) movie where her husband has killed, drowned his other wife.

this is particularly a difficult type of scene to depict.from films, & photos of a body, & face drowning, the light diffusion from above, thru the water, can be tricky, & have strange effects, shadows that are hard to predict.

while this is good,(yes, very nice blue)I myself would want to use a real photo, film,or even a model somehow to see how the depth of water, clearness, ect., affects the overall picture. (we have had artists, here, who did some very good depictions of bodies submerged, and i don't know how they did it;it's hard.) so, yes, pretty good and ambitious. If you're still interested, there are movies with drowning,or deepwater scenes of bodies worth studying.any experiences from life, swimming, diving, or just underwater could be helpful.(quite a coup you got marcello to comment.:) ) yep, this is a particularly difficult type of scene to paint; i think it's good. (sorry if I seem too analytical, i'm used to being that way on myself.)
