Inspirational inspiration
HunterKiller_ (Jun 17, 2005)
This is more for the less talented artists like me, but feel free to contribute even if you aren't. So, when you are having doutes about your artistic abilities or having a mental block, what do you do for inspiration? To clear the block, give you new ideas, or bring back your courage to put pencil to paper... or mouse to pad... or stylus to tablet. The easiest most accessible i find is our own 2Draw showcase! I'm looking at it now even. Just take a stroll throught that magnificent gallery ...

Adobe Photoshop CS help
DinoFlorist (Jun 13, 2005)
Hi, I need some help with a technical problem using photoshop CS. I have never used it do any work before, but now I need to use it to color an artwork. I am finally somewhat proficient with layers in Lascaux, but Photoshop is prohibiting me from adding new layers. It is probably something very simple, but I even checked Adobe's help site, and nothing jumped out at me. Here is the problem and specifications: I scanned an image and saved it as a *.TIF file. I can open it in Photoshop and ...

How about this idea?
Memo: Marcello, I'll give you $20 to put this piece of crap in the showcase.
RE: Hmmm... It's gonna take at least $40 for that piece of crap.
Memo: $40? Damn... OK. Paypal?
RE: Paypal will be fine. I'll have it in the showcase tomorrow.
Memo: Cool! Thanks, man.
TheCrimsonKing (Jun 27, 2012)
Fuck, I knew I should have low balled him starting at $20.

I like Staci's idea, something more like Daily Deviations would be cool. The whole 'like and dislike button system' seems like it would be counterproductive because it allows people to judge anonymously and without explanation, making the showcase purely a popularity contest (opposed to a place to display the sites more skillful or innovative or interesting digital art). And yes, judging things like this would be subjective but could be relatively objective if there was some loose criteria to be met that we all agreed on (I mean, don't most prominent and respected award systems work in such a way?).
TheCrimsonKing (Nov 26, 2012)
Thinking about it now I think there are pretty solid reasons a lot of pieces were showcases like this one. There was a collective evolution of skill as 2draw developed from when I joined in 2004. There seemed to be a point where the bar was raised weekly for a few years and then we got to now where it has kind of gone stagnant. We are left to look at the current content as a whole and maybe a lot doesn't fit, but when it was showcased it was amazing, inspiring, or whatever at the time it as created.

It's the same damn thing again.

More Garbage to throw in.

[EDIT] Hmm. Its funny how a misdirected comment turns things into mindless banter. I understand what it means to produce commerical art, I understand and see that other artists are not appreciated, I understand and appreciate the input I already recieve nor was it some stupid cry to recieve more. It was a simple statment that the trend on this art forum is to replicate photos to recieve a particular mass attention and THAT WAS ALL. I already recieve input. People tell me what I need to hear already. You do not need to preach to me; calling me names and other things does not help the fact that I have an opinion. If you have a real problem with me, take it into private. PM me. I'm sure a gaggle of you enjoy arguing in Oekaki submission comments, but this isn't the place for them. I discourage further commenting on the 'subject' herin.

Cordelia_Pink (Jun 10, 2005)
lol man, you all love debates just admit it. Your pictures are different from what I've seen before. It's got some sort of glossiness and softness to it. I'm not sure if I've seen this style before but I think it's great. There are neat lighting effects on this.
Gigandas (Jun 10, 2005)
Hmm, I'm still not sure why a lot of us put such a huge emphasis on "drawing from the heart/express your feelings" in art. Art is a VERY large field. And I'd hate to burst anyone's bubble, but it's not always about that. What would you call drawing characters or backgrounds for video games? I sure hope you're more for adjusting what the character may look like with the given personality and surroundings in the game, rather than "drawing to express yourself." My point is, art is not always about being able to draw abstract expressive drawings. There is a lot more art you're missing out on if this is the case.

okay, whatever people are trying to argue now, take it to the forums or PMs.

JTablet v0.9.5 Preview Release---Testers needed
marcello (May 22, 2005)
I did a little messing with JTablet today and may have fixed a problem that causes it not to work with a series of tablets (such as aiptek and no-name brands), but I am not sure if my changes actually made any difference (or possibly screwed something up for existing users). So this is just a quick little beta test (will just last a day or two). 1) download it 2) install it 3) [url http://cellosoft.com/sketc...
