So I didn't think this was even close to being good enough for the icons board.. So I stuck it here.. my ittle eyeicon.. Not done yet.. But yeah.. What you think for my first try at an eye? anyone? Anyone? C&C?

The iris and pupil are pretty good, just make sure you don't make the eye looking like a football (very common eye mistake...).Try looking in the mirror and take a good look at the shape of the outside of your eye.It won't be an oval looking like a football.Actually, the part the eye is closest to your nose is pretty rounded as the line comes down from the top of your eye.Another thing to watch out for is how much white is above and below the iris, otherwise it will look like the person is scared.Anyways, I like the inner iris and pupil, good luck with the rest.

Well.. added a bit more deetail to the bottom part of the eye... Not bad? Alittle better? What do you think?
Gigandas (edited Feb 1, 2004)
Umm....honestly^^;?I can't really tell any differences from the last revision (not trying to be mean but....><)....you know, you can't be afraid to change things more dramatically.like darkening up the skin tones so it doesn't blend so much into the whites of the eye.You might also want to add the eyelid unless this person is one of those people whose eye lid can't be seen.Another thing that always makes an eye look more relaxed is to pull the eyelid a bit over the iris.Otherwise you got the surprised look.I used to struggle on eyes before until I practiced over and over.Here's another trick when drawing an eye.People draw eyes with an outline(being the eye lashes) that goes all the way around the eye.You when you do this, you leave the center bottom (right below the iris) with the skin tone colors.It makes it look SOOOOO much more realistic.Add these ideas together and you can really make something out of it.Like I said, use a mirror.It WILL help.Hope to see some dramatic changes by the next revision^^.

P.S. For some reference on what to draw, you can use my drawing "The Eye of the Wretched" to get a feel for what I'm explaining other than the surprised look thing because I intensionally made the eye look surprised in that drawing...^^;
YukiEiriSan (Feb 2, 2004)
n_n I am going for the surprised look, to be honest, so there's no problem with that. And I'm not anywhere close to a perfectionist. I'm actually happy with it the way it is.. But I appreciate the critiicism. Like I said. I'm nowhere as good as you or anyone else. .. But I'll never get better if I'm not satisfied first with what I can achieve. I think compared to my works in the past, this is a leap ahead.

I figured I might as well comment on this, after all I am a mod and am entitled to my say when someone has a problem with us (the mods). First of all, I would like to say that 2draw is one of the best open communities for beginning artists! I mean, a lot of beginners can post their stuff here, the beginner boards has, of this moment 6,579 entries!!! Compare this with 4,279 intermediate entries, and 124 advanced entries! We really do keep a ton of beginner work, and now I hope you will appreciate the fact that we have rules in place that will allow us to filter out at least the worst of the beginner pictures.
Deleting my posts just because I can't draw that good.
So please, if you wish to debate over a deleted picture, DO NOT USE THIS EXCUSE.

If your entry is deleted, it has violated our rules and therefore is not a matter of a moderator's personally vendetta against you and your artwork (unless it is, in which case marcello hates you).

One more thing... why should we appreciate the fact that someone (you) made the effort? You might not realize that every single person that posts here makes the same effort, if not more, to get their pieces done. So good job... you don't deserve more than the rest of us.

er....is there anyone who hasn t had a pic deleted, or constructively critiqued? a few weeks ago a small pic i poured my heart and soul into, and which was intended for my daughter was deleted...mildly ticked..of course but hey rules is rules. i think a quick explanation of why the piece ws removed is needed but as i was told when i complained (DISCREETLY) so many entries, so few moderators and so little time, its not always possible... so dude? go sit in the corner for swearing, then come back and play nice!

That's so nice. I like the rough coloring, kind of like oil pastel. I think you should add a little lighting to the nose tip. and one of the eye seems a little higher than the other

I'm so glad to have "free" time again! Last week I spent too much time prepping for a dance competition... glad to be back trying to draw.

Ok. *drops it* I lost my ref so I screwed with it... this version is ultimately cos I submitted then immediately thought it needed to be darker....I really can't blend.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 10, 2004)
I think it's terrific. It's way better than some of the crap I post in the advanced section.
