I actually inspired someone......never thought I would^^;.Kinda happy that I did.....at least I think so...XD?Anyways, you have to make dark areas more definite, and make sure to get dark spots dark and light spots light. If you don't make these differences, it will end up looking way too blurred.Like the nose, you have to shade the bottom of the nose up more to make it come forward. The lips usually have highlights too.The top lip is darker than the bottom since the bottom is exposed more to light.Hmmm....can't think of things at the moment, but if you need any specifics I'd be honored to help^^.

P.S.Good luck on your realism pic, hope it turns out the way you want it XD.

I think it's looking pretty good so far, to be honest.. I could never do anything remotely artistic.. The only thing I've ever done is that little eye down there.. Which no one really seems to like. Lol. Anyways, I'll keep an eye on this one. I want to see how it comes out.

ok, before i keep going and run through all the space...comments? suggestions? *thanks so much again mods*
Gigandas (Feb 2, 2004)
Nice to see improvements^^.Umm, now you have to make a choice.Do you want an overall blurred look or a sharper look?Parts of his face pop out while others look a little bit further away.I'm assuming you will blur the solid lines sometime?Realism can't contain solid lines so...oh, and uh see the left cheek (his right cheek)? You can lighten it up or it will look too slanted and won't be even with his other cheek.Color wise it seems fine.Just be careful on the contrast^^.I also like how his head is popping further forward than his body as it should be in this position. At the moment I can't come up with other things until the next revision, but keep up the good work^^.And thanks for putting up with my tips since I'm probably annoying you with so many things^^;...

ok, nother safety save...hows it comin?
Gigandas (Feb 2, 2004)
Good, it's all even now but still seems too far out of focus overall.Try to bring the picture back into focus meaning darker darks mixed with the light colors you have right now.Overall, the contrast is even but you have to bring the sharpness level or if you want to call it the focus level up higher.I'd say especially the lips. You can see it, but it's a little bit hard to make out.But hey, my brother guessed it was Johnny Depp as he passed by my computer without looking at the title^^.That's a good start^^.Fix the focus and I'll get back to you on some more stuff.I like it so far and good luck with the focusing^^.

ok, i have an issue...lol. is there a way to get more space for a picture without moving up to a higher board? i so wanna keep working on this, but i dont have that much space left, and it sooooooooo does not belong in advanced...any ideas? suggestions?
Thanks so much!!!! I appreciate it!

is that better? whatcha thinkin?
Gigandas (Feb 2, 2004)
Nice, very nice.Love how you brought the details out more.Umm, right now his nose looks a little crooked. It's something about his left nostril being too small compared to his right nostril. And I'm not sure whether Johnny Depp has a chin that sticks out or not, but you usually add some shadow underneath the bottom lip(in the center area). You can also try to draw single lines at a time for the hair to make it look more real.It usually takes a while but trust me, it's definitely worth it^^.Actually I just noticed he has some three lines below his lips...are those wrinkles or the beard?I can't make it out too well at the moment.Umm...do you think you could show me your reference pic in a memo? That way I can really help you out I think.Good job though with what you improved on.

ok, fixed some junk that was bothering me...suggestions?

...DANGIT! the eye and the jaw are better, but i shoulda left well enough alone with the lips...eh, i guess some shadiing and focus on the upper lip might fix that...but ill wait...pffft, ok.
graywolf (Feb 3, 2004)
JOHNNNYYYY!!!! I LOOVVE JONNNYYY!!! *glomps continously* GREAT PIC!!!! *kisses* (is also a Johnny fan girl)
gothamgirl (Feb 4, 2004)
The lips look much better! I love the eyes too. Very nice.
Gigandas (Feb 4, 2004)
Nice improvements^^!Whoa, the eyes....definitely added more life to the picture XD.Umm, let's see, I was looking more at his face and I think his lips should be adjusted to a little higher level. What's causing the lips to be so low, is the fact that is nose is a little too long. The nose looks fine the way you drew it, just the proportions of it on the face is a little too long from his eye level down to the nostrils.Sorry, this might take awhile, but I thought just in case you wanted to fix that that I would tell you now before your last revision.I would also cut off the angles at the end of the jaw (near his ears). It's still a little squarish. The cheeks could also be sucked in more since he's a skinny guy.Hmm....that's about all I see.....if I forgot any suggestions hopefully someone else can add to my comments before your last edit and I'd just like to say "good luck"^^.I'm sure you'll do a great job with its completion and it's been a pleasure working with you^^.

P.S.Memo me about any q's you may have...

staci (edited Feb 4, 2004)
hey dixie..this is pretty damn good. (even if it doesnt look exactly like him) i dont mean its just good for you, its like better than i could do prolly. keep it up! ; )
also..even if you pic a photo to draw from, you dont have to copy every detail. you can just use it as a reference and make the piece your own. i actually like it better when im using a photo reference and it develops into something different or even better.
dixielandcutie (edited Feb 4, 2004)
thanks so much icats. i did originally pic a photo, but it sorta evolved outta my lack of control, lol...so its not even really the same position..haha, oh well. but thanks. im gonna give it one more push i think, and then callita day. i learned a lot by doing this...even if it is just a copy...

and a huge thanks to the g-man...appreciate your patience and comments. you rock!
