Public Boards/Beginner
Parelis (Dec 23, 2003)
It may be the pot calling the kettle black, but the beginner board is in bad shape. Try harder.

Okay, considering my un-1337 skills, I usually stay out of these sorts of things... but ya know... I have to say, Parelis is right. It's gotten awful. Those of us on the beginner board who are here because we want to improve and get constructive criticism from the better artists are getting nowhere because as soon as we post something, we get either 20 "it's kool lol!!!!!!!!111" comments or 20 5-minute pictures saying "i was bord plz coment but not if u r just going 2 be critical!!11" drowning it out so nobody sees it. The beginner board is here for practice and improvement, not posting pointless crap that nobody wants to look at. Remember, even the drool-worthy deities on the advanced and elite boards were new to oekaki once. Being a newbie is no excuse for not trying to get better.

Thanks for bringing it up, Parelis.
strangeoid (Dec 23, 2003)
taori: drool worthy deities! Great term... mind if I use it more often?

Yes, the spammers are becoming a problem, and this picture is a marvelous example of what it feels like sometimes wading through all the 12 minute pictures. Seriously folks, the longer you spend on a drawing, the more practice you get, the better you'll be. Just spend the extra half hour on it, and you'll be that much happier with yourself.
mkkmypet (Dec 23, 2003)
Yes, the spammers need to stop. N00bs are ok, as long as they improve and except peoples constructive critisism (?).
rikurules (Feb 28, 2004)
Ok, ok i admit it... ur right... im probably one of the spammers... but when u give "constructive feedback" well i said please dont give me mean stuff i meant like u can tell me what else i can do to make it better... but do u have to say... "wtf is up with this crazy shit... this is horrible spam u suck loser''

Progress in Artistic Ability
Doodlibop (Dec 1, 2003)
As I skim through all the drawing boards, I'm come to realize that some people here are just not improving in their art skill. Some just continue to draw the same thing or style over and over and will not explore or better their current style. It's kind of...sad. I must admit though; the people on the beginner board are actually improving, and I applaud them. But those who are on the intermediate especially and even the advanced, I see no kind of improvement. It's silly. Expand! Explore! and...

Gah same with me and my Dad, just because I'm nine years old he thinks my magas are crappy, but everyone else says they're near professional. *Remembers first manga* Ah yes... "Hexxub"... What a great manga...
furyofroy (Dec 16, 2003)
I don't blame him -- you seem a little young to be turning out mangas. That's just my opinion, however. Perhaps you could e-mail me a few pages of this "Hexxub".
Arisuki_Artemis (edited Dec 16, 2003)
Yeh same...I want to read it ^.^ but yeahhhhh 9 *is* a bit too young. Yeeeeeesh I feel like an old fogie sayin that >.< Ephgz. Ohhhhhh one MORE thing...on your profile, it says you skipped 3 grades. But I only skipped one (which screwed me so badly...) and I was the same age as you in grade 5...but then again, I'm not homeschooled (eek that would be we-ird!)
Parelis (Dec 17, 2003)
While art is certainly very subjective, don't be too quick to dismiss criticism of your work. There's a bad tendancy of people in anime and furry groups to bypass technical or creative skill by just creating bland work that will get praise from other people in the group simply because it's anime or furry. There are plenty of boards that turn into circle-jerks of uninspired artists boosting each other's egos without really trying to get anywhere. If people outside your clique are giving you negative reactions regularly, you may want to re-evaluate your work.

this is a really cool robot design. i love the yellow and black wrist thingie and the wings.
Parelis (Dec 15, 2003)
A good design, but what's up with the splots of smeary color overlaying the lineart? That takes away from the pic for me, but the rest is solid.
marcello (Dec 15, 2003)
you are so much a lie, with your "not good" ness and whatnot.

Looks good but I agree on the coloring over lineart looking bad.

Draw bigger, with more detail. I clicked on this image and couldn't figure out what was going on for a few seconds. Use a 300x300 canvas and fill it.

Hmm, the ears remind of mine fursona.

The both lineart and colouring work well together.

Whatever it started out as, the final product is a winner. I wonder though, should those white highlights have some yellow or orange in them from the firelight?
Fin_beast (Dec 13, 2003)
That is really cool. :D. It looks really shit from the thumbnail tho. *Shoots him again at close range with 12 boar*
