well, that just shows that your mother has support (or at least interest) in what you do. consider yourself lucky.

edit: hmm. interesting home situation. still, at least she isn't barring you from drawing altogether, so she isn't that much of a monster. a few people here were kicked off from drawing for a while by their parents, and wasil has heavily restricted internet time.

it isn't her right to judge what is "real" art and what isn't. traditional media is under competition with more modern things anyway. graphic designers have adequate pay, and since you're the one who will make the decision of what type of art you prefer, it's none of her choice to make.

o_O my mom hates the fact that I draw anime. She told me that I suck at drawing, or when shes being nice, goes all 'oh, what a cute picture' like I'm 5 years old still..... I've kept drawing a sort of secret for 3 years now...and I'm only 14!! She's a painter type...oils...classic stuff...but when I told her I wanted to get in animation or 3d rendering in university, she was just like 'well, let me see some pictures at least'....

Gah same with me and my Dad, just because I'm nine years old he thinks my magas are crappy, but everyone else says they're near professional. *Remembers first manga* Ah yes... "Hexxub"... What a great manga...

I don't blame him -- you seem a little young to be turning out mangas. That's just my opinion, however. Perhaps you could e-mail me a few pages of this "Hexxub".

Yeh same...I want to read it ^.^ but yeahhhhh 9 *is* a bit too young. Yeeeeeesh I feel like an old fogie sayin that >.< Ephgz. Ohhhhhh one MORE thing...on your profile, it says you skipped 3 grades. But I only skipped one (which screwed me so badly...) and I was the same age as you in grade 5...but then again, I'm not homeschooled (eek that would be we-ird!)

While art is certainly very subjective, don't be too quick to dismiss criticism of your work. There's a bad tendancy of people in anime and furry groups to bypass technical or creative skill by just creating bland work that will get praise from other people in the group simply because it's anime or furry. There are plenty of boards that turn into circle-jerks of uninspired artists boosting each other's egos without really trying to get anywhere. If people outside your clique are giving you negative reactions regularly, you may want to re-evaluate your work.
