good job. I need to get myself into art school one day. Good luck.
Sweetcell (Jun 16, 2007)
You pass Deino. As for me teaching? I'd get too concious of everyone and have the students paint each other. Literally. :)

As the title states. Imagery like this is not shocking to me.
Personally I find that the majority of the public enjoy extreme gore, sexual deviance, and death. Just think about what we view.

Gore and death: Hostel, Saw, 300, 28 weeks later, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, CSI series, OZ, The Sopranos, etc.
Sexual Deviance: Law and order SVU, The Tudors, Just porn alone is a HUGE market and includes many themes that would blow others minds.

The news we all watch holds a cache of horror and fear.

And we LOVE IT. We want more of it. Then again, its apart of our nature as much as love, healing, and creation are. Well... don't show love making on TV because of children (Rather be parents). Remember the 80s? Some shows were essentially softcore porn.
I find that gore and extreme situations can also be utilized to make beautiful art and cinema.
Ichi The Killer, once past all the insanity, rape, and gore. Was a really good movie, and had some very intelligent ideas behind it on top of beautiful Imagery. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance as another one. VIDEODROME, SUSPIRIA, The Box, etc. All works of art.

Then you have the drawn artists like Junji Ito, Hans Bellmer, Surhiro Maruo, Kage, etc.

So these vile themes can be used past the newest shitty horror movie. I think the only people who find such shocking are those not ever exposed, or those predisposed to be shocked by modes of thinking (ex: religion, culture, etc.)

SO AFTER ALL THAT BULLSHIT I JUST WROTE, WHAT IS SHOCKING TO ME?

A world where we do not kill and hurt each other, a world where people loved each other, societies of people built on selflessness and community, a world where all are truly equal.

But this is merely long-dead-romantic-rhetoric made for people to impale themselves upon. Such a utopia is fantasy for now.

I officially disqualify myself from this contest because I could not come up with an image that expresses what I find shocking. Sorry for making you read all of that.

Basically what I got from this is: it can be good or evil but when well done and with a meaning it´s ok .
SanzoGirl (Jun 16, 2007)
Hehe, Hannibal Rising <333

LisaAnne (Jun 16, 2007)
I just like your description, that you actually expressed your thoughts...its nice every once in a while to have the mystery deepen.
JK-Arts (Jun 16, 2007)
What's with all the words. Why not draw something that would say all you just said, It probably would of won if you did.
Speak with your art.
Man FUCK THAT. Speak and exspress yourself how ever you can.
Solve i agree with you people are entirly Vague and Hypocritical when it comes to these things.

HunterKiller_ (Jun 16, 2007)
I think it's still somewhat organic. Nice.
Sweetcell (Jun 16, 2007)
Wow, this is just.... all kinds of words that I'd only be repeating and wouldn't do justice in the end.

I love the organic/robot pussy. :D
Kamll (Jun 16, 2007)

you use the other side of the brain? you mean, just take a picture, and view it very objectively, minus any meaning to the picture? your brain just photographs it literally?
Teapot (Apr 19, 2015)
It results in forcing you to see more accurately what you're looking at rather than drawing a preconceived notion of what something looks like. Everyone does that unconsciously. I'm sure you can get 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' by Betty Edwards from your local library. http://www.amazon.com/The-Drawing-Right-Side-Brain/dp/0874774241

"and we don't care about the young folks

and we don't care about the old folks
talkin' 'bout the old style too
and we don't care about our own folks
talkin' 'bout our own stuff
all we care about is talking
talking only me and you"

- Young Folks

Whoooo, I take forever to draw! XD I dunno why this took me so long... Anywho, I was listening to "Young Folks" nonstop yesterday, and this image popped in my head. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out; it's not too detailed or over-the-top, just a simple piece. I spent way more time on the guy on the left. ^^;;
Uhm, yes, they're two guys. .__. But if that irkens you, just pretend the right one is a girl. :B

how did you get this so... liquid looking? I like whatever coloring technique you were using
Sweetcell (Jun 16, 2007)
I've seen a few people do this kind of coloring. It looks like it's been painted on glass. I'm with Lori I'd love to know how you did this. And on Lascaux, my fave appelet.
And don't worry about taking so long Phree, the more time you take the better the result. As this shows.
lori (Jun 16, 2007)
I think it's the blur tool used just right
Sweetcell (Jun 16, 2007)
The blur tool? I'm always afraid to use that thing. If this is one of the results...... something new to have fun with. :)

Lol Good one Miss DJ. funny
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jun 15, 2007)
This is sooooo pretty, I want to start singing the ? ? aaaa? ???AAAA ? Aaaaa? ???...AAaaa?AAAaaa ?? like Ariel from Disney's "The Little Mermaid". I think she looks interested, but I notice that she chose a pink flower for her hair... perhaps if Aquaman were to be a little more observant, he could then add some of those pink flowers to the boquet, and a few yellow ones, too, and of course some sprays of exotic seaweed that he could only collect in a very dangerous area where there are ferocious sharks, I'm certain she'd slide right off that rock and give him some "tail" for sure. HAAAAAAAAAA. ha. ha? :D k, okay....
Sweetcell (Jun 15, 2007)
/\ Hahahahahahaha.... or fighting the dangerous 20 foot `Electric Eel of Doooooom.`

"Give me some tail baby."

lol.
