Caddris (Sep 17, 2005)
I think the captions explain it all.
I'm stopping to eat dinner. I should have it finished soon.

I think this one is my favorite.

I think this is as finished as it's gonna get. . . not that I have any hope of winning. I really like a lot of the entries. It'll be fun to see how it plays out. ^____^ Good luck to everyone who entered.

The rope looks kinda real and the picture sorta looks to me like one of them refrigerator bisness card magnets.
Cash or credit card? i'd like to place my order now.

This is for all of those who have been saying that there's been too much anime lately. ;P
The cross hacthing is really hard to do with a mouse. o__O Can someone tell me what using a tablet is like? I've heard so many different things about it ranging from they are the greatest things in the world to they're not any better than a mouse.

Oh yeah. Ref. "Drawing the Living Figure" by Joseph Sheppard.

Definately not anime... I wish I could do something like this my problem is I have neither mouse nor tablet and must resort to the stupid clumsy finger pad on my laptop... This is so good and I can't wait until its finished, but I am puzzled by how it can get better than this...
Seklyan (Sep 19, 2005)
oh completely excellent.
broken-lock14 (Sep 19, 2005)
*sigh* I wish I could create artistic things like this. Actually, I think a lot of people complain about anime not because they don't like the drawing style of a person, but because they often create completely non-artistic and unoriginal drawings, like hyper cartoon females with a title like "some girl" or "random". Good artists might draw something like this occasionally, but doing it to excess irritates some people. Though to tell you the truth, I find anime art to be an uber spiffy style. But that's probably because my drawing style is based off anime *shrivels into a ball terribleness* D= I feel like one of those non-artistic and unoriginal people now....

Oh, on a side note, I so want to try out a tablet (anything would be better than the mouse I have).
Caddris (Sep 19, 2005)
Heh, I draw anime-esque characters a lot too, so please, don't shrivel into a ball of terribleness. Anime is just a way of simplifying features and a lot of its appeal comes from the crisp lines and coloring. It takes skill to find the one perfect placement for the one perfect line. Sort of like Hemingway for artists. XD I would oppose with my whole being anyone who argues that anime is non-artistic.

This is Caddris (using the "dd"="th" sound from celtic origins I believe), my screen-name sake. And yes, I look nothing like he does. . . he is, in fact, a he as where I am a she. He's an elf. And before you start railing against the stereotypical Tolkeinian elf I would just like to say that I dislike those ever so depressing the-world-is-ending-but-we're-still-here-untill-we-all-die-out type elves too. Unlike his austere cousins, Caddris makes it a point to be as irreverent as possible. Besides which he's really quite vain. ^__^ I take a weird sort of pride in my characters' personality flaws.

I'll finish later but right now I have to go dissect a cat in my anatomy lab. . .

o.O Hair! And look, he has invisible glasses! e___e; I just need to clean up the lines, add glasses, decide if I like the mouth the way it is, think of an interesting bacground, do said interesting backgrund, and then I'll be done. Hopefully by then I will not have run out of space. -__-;

Cleaning lines. I'm still at a loss as far as backgrounds go.
Caddris (Sep 16, 2005)
drawn in 1 hour 38 min
It's finished now. The background's still weak but it was the best I could come up with. ^___^; Oh, well. The text is actually Caddris' profile. I find that writing out everything I can on a character helps me get a stronger sense of his personality and who he is. My characters be come very much real to me. Really, there isn't much that separates a real person from a fictional one. After all, if I can be like Decarte and doubt the existance of everyone but myself then there really is nothing that separates reality from fiction.
Ooooh, I'm being pseudo-philisophical. e_e;

Anywho.
Geez. Sexy elf. XD He's so cool. Those glasses=spiff. Seriously. He's awesome. And the hair looks like hair. >>;; I can't draw hair.

I'm pretty sure we're thinking of two different Yoricks. ^___^ Your's is a very secksay pink and grey robot and mine is a smelly, moldering, human skull.
Anna (Sep 13, 2005)

A picture of Neil Gaiman's Dream from the Sandman series.
I missed dinner while I was drawing this. I'll finish as soon as I get some food.

I love Sandman. But I particularly love Dream (and, well, Death and Desire, but that's neither here nor there). I'm looking forward to seeing this finished.
Caddris (Sep 9, 2005)

I'm done. I've finally finished! I've been at home over the summer and we have really sucky dial up so I had to wait to get back to school in order to finish this. In the mean time I've totally lost the original concept I was aiming toward so. . . ummm, yeah. This is close enough, I guess.
p3ndragon (Sep 9, 2005)
Sweet. I love the bone structure of the guy's face. And the smooth shading.
candehfeind (Sep 17, 2005)
Neil Gaiman is love. And so is this fanart. Good job.

He's my favorite character of all time. He freakin' rocks my socks! XD Anyway, I just started watching FMA on Cartoon Network a few weeks ago and yes, I know. Don't bring it up. . . for my sake and for those who wish to see the who series without spoilers.

o_O Almost done. I did a lot last night but my college's network went down right as I was about to save the image. >__<; I was not a happy camper. By the way, I hate shading . . . with a passion.

HA! I finished! . . . it took me long enough. When did I start this one? May? April? I don't remember. Anyway, it's done.

Yes, more Sandman. I'll stop soon, I swear.
This is Death, Dream's older sister. Despite her miffed look at being placed in a pretty pink tu-tu here, she is really quite cheerful. In fact, she's probably the most light hearted of the Endless. . . I take that back. Delirium would be hard to beat in that respect.
Anyway, character from Sandman (c) Neil Gaiman, not me, blah blah blah.

Dream again. From the Sandman series. Dream is the weaver of all. . . well, dreams.
Every artist who illustrated Sandman had a different style but a lot of things about the characters stayed the same. Dream, for instance, is always tall, lanky, and pale as Death (Death being his older sister).
Dream and his siblings are are intellectual property of Neil Gaiman. I'd be the happiest author on earth if I could claim that they were mine. . .

ooo this is cool, i passed it and had to scroll back up for a second look
concannon (May 1, 2005)
Aaah Morpheus. <3 <3 Do Desire or Death next? :D Great job with your shadows.

Kenshin: That "stuff" in his hand is sand. ...hence the name "the Sandman", y'know?

A bit of irony. I have to stop here because there's a thunderstorm and I'm shutting down my computer. I'll finish once the storm has passed.
I'm referencing a picture I drew earlier today which was loosely referenced from How to Draw the Human Figure by Louise Gordon.
(The blobs of color are my palette.)

Is the face of a man or female?
Caddris (Apr 21, 2005)

The face is supposed to be male. I seem to be having gender difficulties as of late. . . well, not me per se, my drawings. ^___^;;
