This is Machiavelli. He's the shark I am dissecting in first year biology lab. The poor guy doesn't have any skin now.
Maciavelli is a male spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias), member of the phylum chordata and class chondrichthyes.

Reference used: Pictoral Anatomy of the Dogfish, Stephen G. Gilbert, 1973.

Just a few touch ups.
Xodiak (Apr 21, 2005)
After you dissect him, will you cook him too? I like seafood. <:)

Actually, I find myself wondering what shark tastes like. But they've been preserved in formaldehyde. . . I'm not too keen on finding out how that tastes. :]
Xodiak (Apr 22, 2005)
Formaldehyde must not taste very good, I think it is a carcinogen poison. I think it exists in cigarettes too. >:)

The title? Right now, your guess is as good as mine.
I'm having fabric issues. Especially the folds. Right now my refference for the drape-thing is a towel that's hanging over the back of a chair. As you can see that's not working out too well. . . >__o Does anyone have any pointers for drawing folds?

It's finished! And with a background. . .ooohh fancy. I think it turned out alright. I'm not all that happy with his skin tone, but over all I like it.
Xodiak (Apr 19, 2005)
Very beautiful drawing of a handsome, wounded winged man. Is he an angel? The black piece of cloth is so pretty and silky. Lovely drawing! <:)

Well, this started out as a self portrait. It looks nothing like me. I've never been good at capturing someone's likeness. Despite the fact that she has no resemblance to me, I do like how this one came out. ^__^;

EDIT: I just noticed that in the thumbnail she looks rather androgynous. . . o__O;; I'm also not used to drawing women. . .

I like the portrait and the style. I think the lips are the part that makes it more manly, feminine lips usually aren't as flat or maybe it is the dark sketchy part under the lips that looks almost like facial hair. Are you going to add something more to the background?
Caddris (Apr 19, 2005)
Backgrounds are not my forté. I honestly don't know what else to do with the background for this one. That and I've already exceeded the space limit by 54kb. ^___^;; But any tips on backgrounds for the future would be greatly appreciated.
kejoco (Apr 19, 2005)
I think the sketch is awesome...
I would say it looks more like a man than i woman though

It's done! It took awhile. I'm not exactly sure what type of dinosaur he is. . . A therapod probably from the upper cretaceous. Maybe from the genus Tyrannosaurus. I think he's cute! ^.^ How could you not think he's cute? He's absolutely adorable! I think I'll name him. . . Amadeus. Awww! Cute little Amadeus! Who's a big dinosaur? Who is? You are!

EDIT: Haha! You're right! It does look like the dinosaurs Calvin becomes in his imagination. XD
davincipoppalag (Apr 18, 2005)
Good call Milt.. that's exactly what this reminds me of.
Miss_DJ (Apr 18, 2005)
he's so much cuter to me in here, than he would be in person...lol

More studies. I'm not really sure where I'm headed with this one. It would be nice to learn composition so that my other pictures don't look so. . . random. Ah, well.
I'll try and finish up later but right now I think I'll give my mouse a rest.

I really liked the sketchy feel of the eye in comparison to the face. The combo gives the whole thing an almost collage-like feel. Very well done. I watched the animation--really envy your even and steady strokes!

Hmmm. . . I think this is as far as I'm taking this. I cheated and zoomed in on the small figure. <__< t's a lot easier to control the mouse when you have a bigger space to do it in. I need a wacom tablet, but, alas, I also need to eat and I don't really have an income to speak of so buying a tablet is more of a pipe dream than a goal I'm acyually working toward. Unless of course someone here just happens to not want theirs and would like to donate the tablet to me. . . I can dream, right?

By the by, can anyone tell me how to use the layers? They seem very useful. . . I just have not yet figured out how they are useful. . . Yeah, I'm slow like that. ^___^
TheCrimsonKing (Apr 15, 2005)
You consider that cheating? That's just using the tools available that's all..
As for layers, I'm not sure if you had seen the 'layers' button at the bottom of the tool bar..from here once clicked you can choose what layer, add or delete layers and shift or merge them. How they would've been useful in this image: If you had drawn the profile on 'layer 1' and then did the background on 'layer 0' you could’ve erased the background inside the profile so the edges are right on with the lines without erasing the profile..that's one example.

Nice studies.

See, this is what happens when I don't want to do my work. There's something a bit off about it and I can't quite tell what it is. . .
Ah. I see what it is. The palm of the hand comes out a little too far.

if you look at it long enough, you cant tell which side of the hand the thumb comes from.

o__O; You're right. . .

lol yeah! Looks cool though. Like it could go either way and still look right.

Hmmm. . . my first piece. Ummmm, nothing much to say about it, which is odd. I'm usually unecessarily verbose.
~Enjoy. ^____^
