What an eye you have. A simple picture full of simple shapes that are oh so tasty to the artistic eye. I really like your use of washes, and watercolor style.
Deino (May 5, 2006)
The subject is simple and interesting, totally unespected too!
You are truly admirable Axil.

Thanks everybody!

Frootcake: I could try out shi. I'll do my next painting in that. I'm a children's book illustrator,
and my agency needed a painting of a 5 yr. old girl, shoulders up for an ad. And I procrastinated
too much and the deadline was yesterday! I figured I could do a quick painting here.
So, I needed it to shrink down to 300dpi for print (that's why its so huge).

All your comments are reassuring, because I was afraid this wouldnt cut it.... looking
at it now I can see that the hair kinda sucks, but oh well.
LisaAnne (Apr 26, 2006)
Great style, and cute subject.

I love the purple highlights in the air
xiau (Apr 9, 2006)
The purple highlights are there because I thought the hair was too boring without them XP

I wouldn't mind one of these actually, when are they going to be in production?
Axil62 (Mar 28, 2006)
Well I'd like to get them into production before Dinco De Mayo this year but I'm going to need investors. Ya got $1500?
Sweetcell (Mar 29, 2006)
LOL the fartinator. Actually this would solve some smelly problems in the house.
Artiste (Apr 4, 2006)
Can you get it in any other color than flesh? Id like one to match my rug.

New here. Would welcome advice on the hair. Used the blender and set the opacity low, but it still looks really fake.

I reworked the hair and it looks more natural now I think. I didn't realize you could go back into a "finished" drawing.
tandrew971 (Apr 20, 2006)
i really like that about this site..being able to go and fix something even after its finished. the hair looks great (as does the rest)
Meno (Mar 7, 2008)
Whaddaya talkin' 'bout? I like the hair .... like golden strands of wheat.
QTgillie (Jun 23, 2009)

I haven't felt much inspiration to paint anything lately, and I kinda had the blahs and felt sad, so I was browsing photos of polar bears because that always cheers me up. They do so many cute, funny things and I end up laughing instead of feeling sad. I ran across this and wanted to paint it because of the pretty lighting. I love polar bears the bestest. I want one of my own but it's too hot here and it would just eat me anyway.

Omg, bahaha

Why is she so scared of polar bears?
ginny_91 (Mar 27, 2006)
Wow you are one of the best artist ever. I cannot believe this is a painting and on the computer. I'm not a bear lover but in this picture I think I sunddenly like them now!^^
Artiste (Apr 3, 2006)
My favorite thing about this is the way you painted the shadow on the face of the bear in the back. The transluscent quality shows such depth.
The colors are so sensitive, and palpable... (I love the way that orange next to pale lavendar happens so distinctly in nature)

Airin: dont be afraid to ruin the artwork by adding dark colors where you feel they belong. Your colors are very very light and tentative.
It looks as though you dont want to lay anything too definitive down for fear that you might ruinn the peice. I almost never paint on a pure
white canvas, and almost always start with the darker areas. It looks like youve started from the lights.

Make big broad strokes to define what you see... and dont be tentative... dont worry if you ruin it, you can always start over.
Miss_DJ (Apr 3, 2006)
my first guess would be Gwyneth Paltrow...nice start!
Airin (edited Apr 3, 2006)
Yes, it's Gwyneth, not 100% true to the ref though. There are quite a few areas where i should've used darker overall tones, but it would be very difficult for me to blend that in without changing the entire picture. The eyes for instance are cast in much more shadow than i used.
Miss_DJ (Apr 3, 2006)
yeah!! I knew it! It was obvious to me, great draw! keep goin!
