marcello (edited Nov 27, 2005)
So, who would be interested in a 2draw-con? It'd probably be here in New Mexico, maybe sometime in the Spring. If there is interest of course.
Probably raffles, contests, and just general hanging out. Probably plenty of cool free and secret shit that you'd have to come to get. Who knows. 2draw merch maybe?

Just throwing the idea out there, post your thoughts.

p.s. probably the biggest issue is location and "getting there." feel free to post your thoughts on that, as well.

p.p.s. maybe flesh out the map more?
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 27, 2005)
you should hold it in Roswell
  icon
Nightmare (Nov 27, 2005)
Prehaps we should find out where the majority of 2drawers live before we go picking the area. That way, Marcello can make plenty of money for himself the site.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 27, 2005)
did some lookin, i'd say that indiana would be the best place, but thats only from the people that are on frappr
also rosalyn had a dream about this XD
  icon
mazi (Nov 27, 2005)
i vote somewhere north east US or canada. i love you guys but southerners scare me.. eee. besides, me and kejoco are in the same city. so majority wins!
  icon
TaCO (edited Nov 27, 2005)
Sounds cool to me.

How long would It be for???
And what days of the week???

Edit: would It be big or small??? Will there be Alcohol???

Games??? Drawing Compitions????
Food???
  icon
nekodesu (Nov 27, 2005)
*sigh*...I wish I could go.
  icon
BlitzCloud (Nov 27, 2005)
i wish too, but... oh well. DAMN HARD to get there!
  icon
marcello (Nov 27, 2005)
How long, I can't imagine it'd be more than a weekend. There aren't that many people who could actually make it?
  icon
Nyuusen (Nov 27, 2005)
I like mazi's idea...northern east coast wouldn't be too difficult to get to. At least for me. XP

...I dunno though, I don't think there's enough...ah 2draw material to make activities/other things from. Cons I've been to genrally have a dealers room with multiple tables. Artists allery would be easy to have though.
  icon
marcello (Nov 27, 2005)
con perhaps is a misnomer. It's more of a meet.

Zach (Nov 27, 2005)
I'd really beg to go. I also agree with Mazi. Canada or northern places near there would be great.
  icon
staci (Nov 27, 2005)
weirdness..i was thinking about this earlier today. randomly.

can we cosplay our favorite 2draw moderators? if so im totally in ;P
  icon
Nyuusen (Nov 27, 2005)
How would 2draw moderators look aside from...normal human beings?

Zach (Nov 27, 2005)
Thats easy. They have antenna, and I personaly think that Marcello has webbed toes. How else would he be able to survive in the wild?
  icon
yuohoo (Nov 27, 2005)
I really don't think Marcello has webbed toes. That and a friend of mine said I have webbed fingers. What Wild?
  icon
TaCO (Nov 27, 2005)
Would you need use to bring stuff????

And It's just 2Draw memebers or is it also open to the general public?????

Will there be computers, so people could do live collabs???
  icon
marcello (edited Nov 27, 2005)
We might allow certain amount of general public, but I imagine we'll have some nominal ticket price to cover food/location/whatever/raffle? as necessary.
Probably would have computers, silly not to... and unless wacom wants to sponsor, it'll be BYOT though. ;-)

p.s. I totally have webbed toes
  icon
TheCrimsonKing (Nov 27, 2005)
This is exciting... I'd like to meet everyone.
  icon
Hakkai (Nov 27, 2005)
Definately north eastern part of the US. I dunno 'bout the comps or anything.. knowing me, I wouldn't bring a computer with me and hog up someone elses. >=D

Who would want to sponsor us?
  icon
Agent_Worm (Nov 27, 2005)
I suggest having it Wichita, Kansas since that's about the middle ground for everyone... :P

oh yeah...we're not southerners...we're South Westerners ;)
  icon
inatyrb (Nov 27, 2005)
new mexico is a lil out of my way.. I live in Michigan.. but you can't help everyone.. if it were near here Fuck yeah i'd do it!

Zach (Nov 27, 2005)
Woah there. Double post.
  icon
marcello (Nov 27, 2005)
We wouldn't expect people to bring computers unless they really wanted to. Just tablets if wanted. Or something.

Zach (Nov 27, 2005)
Wouldn't we have to, like, install them, though?
  icon
Hakkai (Nov 27, 2005)
Double post? I don't see any. >____>;;;
  icon
yuohoo (Nov 27, 2005)
I never saw a tablet,I think yuor sopposed to buy it or something,I don't know.
  icon

I never saw a tablet,I think yuor sopposed to buy it or something,I don't know.

What?!
  icon
kejoco (Nov 27, 2005)
I obviously agree with mazi, on the location and the southern thing ;)
  icon
HunterKiller_ (Nov 27, 2005)
>.< I wanna come!!!
  icon
staci (Nov 27, 2005)
BYOT made me laugh
  icon
mazi (Nov 27, 2005)
New york, anyone? :D

(though, i might decide to wear a few layers of armour because im u.s.-phobic. ...which i guess isnt a bright idea to be saying in a community of some 90% americans)
  icon
marcello (Nov 27, 2005)
Who is going to host it? We can't just arbitrarily go to New York. Basically wherever we do it, someone who lives there will need to host/manage the whole deal.
  icon
mazi (Nov 27, 2005)
psh, we can call up marienkind.

in that case who would want to host/manage it?
  icon
TheCrimsonKing (Nov 27, 2005)
We can have it in my garage?
  icon
kejoco (Nov 27, 2005)
I'll bring Kool-Aid and Cheetos!!!
  icon
TaCO (Nov 27, 2005)
It an't a party unless you boil a few sacks of CRAWFISH!!!!!!!!
Les Bon Temp Rouler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  icon
Noremac (Nov 27, 2005)
ill steal various xboxes and we can hook em all up and play a ton of video games.
  icon
marcello (Nov 27, 2005)
xbox? wouldn't we want to play good games?
  icon
Noremac (Nov 27, 2005)
well yeah, but xbox has the whole massive amount of people feature. not so much with the other systems. but i suppose we could deck out with a random assortment of systems, keep the force in balance and all.
  icon
Nyuusen (Nov 28, 2005)
You could charge admission and use what money you get from that to rent out a space at some...convention center...place. There's the Hynes Convention center in Boston but that's probably...not bookable for small things. *shrug*

And no one wants xbox. XP You can play tons of people on Gamecube just as easily. Same with PS2.
  icon
BlitzCloud (Nov 28, 2005)
i vote for canada, it looks like pretty safe, and i always wanted to go there
  icon
Hakkai (Nov 28, 2005)
Err.. but most of the users live in the U.S. ( sorreh Mazi, but it's true. =P ) Sooo... having it in the US would probably be something a majority of us would go for. Where in the US, is what we're figuring out.
  icon
Pakasutemanshikuka (Nov 28, 2005)
I'd like to come. If I'd had that much money.. @___@ finland is so far away
  icon
voodoobunny (Nov 28, 2005)
I agree with Ina (pakasutemanshikuka).
.____. I wish I could come. (oh well, I could get the money and everything, but I'm too scared to go alone)
*grabs ina's leg* Let's go together :333333
  icon
Maiko (Nov 28, 2005)
so, 2drawcon is gonna be f'reals? XD
CAlifornia~ :DDDDD
lol, or NM, since I can actually get there.
I'd cosplay...as Wasil >_> and everyone would know what a freak I really am.

(actually, the truth is, I'm quiet, and introverted....)
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 28, 2005)
And cute.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 28, 2005)
yeah, im pretty introverted too, but im insane none the less. but im more of a sophisticated insane... like hannibal
  icon
mazi (edited Nov 28, 2005)
yeah yeah i realize its most likely in the us.. but still. i wouldnt mind going down there but if it were in a vacationey/more famous area it be a better reason for people to go. which was why i said new york. more people would go if theres stuff in the city to see than if we went to the middle of nowhere :P

but i dont know much about the U.S. so i'll keep my mouth shut. (i keep going "oh, thats really a state???"....its not my fault you guys have to have so damn many!)

edit: *dies laughing* apparently this map thinks i live in the golf course. lets have the party on my lawn :D
  icon
Axil62 (edited Nov 28, 2005)
You know what though? I know it's most practical to do it here in the U.S. because the majority and all...but I think a trip to Canada would be really cool.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Nov 28, 2005)
More people will show if you have it in the U.S., count me in, wherever it is.
edit: It's really only practical that it should be held where Marcello is (and on the selfish side, it's really close to here :)
  icon
xiau (Nov 28, 2005)
There's no way I could go to any of the places you guys have mentioned so far D:
I live in Alabama...and from what I know, I'm the only one that lives in that part of the U.S...so there goes my chance DX
Maybe I can beg my parents? ...no, I don't think that would work.
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 28, 2005)
Minors across state lines? It can't be good.
  icon
mazi (edited Nov 28, 2005)
yeah, but theres also that crazy COPPA thing nobody pays attention to...

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

The COPPA essentially is for protecting the privacy of children under the age of 13. In short, 2draw.net is not intended for users under the age of 13 years or younger. However, if an user does not enter their age, we have no way of knowing if they are under 13, and thus will not enforce this age restriction. If a parent/guardian wishes an account to be terminated, please contact the webmaster (mailto:webmaster@cellosoft.com).

anyone under 13 shouldnt be using the site anyways..
  icon
Noremac (Nov 28, 2005)
under 16 counts a minor. at least in U.S.
  icon
xiau (Nov 28, 2005)
My parents know I use this site...I told them all about it and everything.
And half the time they're in the room while I'm using it.
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 28, 2005)
Yes, but I was talking about physical travel.
  icon
marcello (Nov 28, 2005)
We'll probably have a 18+ requirement on any kind of meet. anyone younger would be complicated. or would need parental permission or something like that. I don't know.
  icon
xiau (Nov 28, 2005)
Yeah, well, you don't have to worry about me, because I can't come anyways.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 28, 2005)
You should definitely restrict it to adults, unless the children belong to 2draw users and they are also 2draw users.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 28, 2005)
hey man~ interstate travel isnt really hard. i go from state to state pretty often, i'd say parental permission. i dont wanna miss this :[
  icon
Gigandas (Nov 28, 2005)
Waitin', on a Sunday afternoon,
For what I read between the lines,
Your lies.
Feelin', like a hand in rusted shame,
So do you laugh or does it cry?
Reply?

Leavin', on a southern train,
Only yesterday, you lied,
Promises, of what I seemed to be,
Only watched the time, go by,
All of these, things you said to me.

~Stone Temple Pilots (Interstate Love Song)
  icon
nekodesu (Nov 28, 2005)
My mom doesn't let me have fun in life. -_- So either way, it doesn't matter for me.
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 28, 2005)
That's because your mommy loves you. You'll have plenty of time for fun after she does everything she knows how to try to give you what you need to go out someday and be OK. I'm assuming she loves you of course.
  icon
method3 (Nov 28, 2005)
Yeah, a meet would be really cool. From personal experience, putting together some kind of computer dealio is a real pain in the butt, even when everyone provides all their own equipment the power expense is huge.

If we have an informal thing where like everyone eventually wanders to a place for a weekend for eating out, hanging out at someone's place... (going to some bars?! =P). I'd imagine it'd be easier this way, people can bring tablets, laptops, sketchbooks for the old-fashioned. I'm up for anything not here, although my finances say otherwise...
  icon
Hakkai (Nov 28, 2005)
Meth: Mmm train hopping. =] S'prolly what I would do if I don't have a ride. Still kinda expensive, but its still an option if you don't have a car.

An informal meet sounds cool. Like a picnic! =D BYOB, sammichs ( I want mine Marcello-made, woman! ), talk with one another users. I already know what most of you guys look like. >=]
  icon
Kasha (edited Nov 28, 2005)
This really needs to be narrowed down.

Who is more than likely going to go?

Minors attending wouldn't be a good idea, unless you bring an older good looking boy cousin along, because a parent would just be so uncool.

Also, how would someone go about hosting it? We have to worry about hotels, food and transportation. AHHHHHH! only if life were so much easier.

ps. taking computer is a hassel. believe me, nobody is gonna care to draw while were over there. We're going to be too busy kvetching about what the best anime is.

Zach (Nov 28, 2005)
Well, alot of the 2draw users are minors, and I think it'd be unfair if we coudn't get together this one time just because of age restrictions. I can see where you're going at with it, but still........
  icon
TaCO (Nov 28, 2005)
Well could meet at a train yard with rattle cans
  icon
staci (Nov 28, 2005)
when its all figured out let me know :P

in other news i found my stylus! yay.
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 28, 2005)
This is a collection of people who have commented on this and who are not minors.

Marcello, Mazi, Derick, Icats, Axil, Deadly, Kasha, Hakkai, Gig, Blitz, Kejoco, sincity, Crimson, Davin.

So...these people should be relatively good candidates to actually go.
It's a starting point.
This isn't going to happen unless something begins to form here besides "What do we do? What should we do? Should we bring computers? blah blah blah"
Pick a location so that we all have a starting point to work from.
See how many would/could go to that location.
If it becomes clear that another location would draw more members, try that one. So on and so forth untill a loction is agreed upon. From that point arrangements can begin to be made. No?
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 28, 2005)
Once a location is decided, then dates need to be found. After that, it's just a matter of picking a hotel and then everyone makes their own reservation , or designates someone to make a block of them for those dates. The rest kinda falls into place from that.Since it's a meet and not a formal convention with lots of planned events,no special arrangements need be set up.
  icon
marcello (Nov 28, 2005)
There's plenty of stuff we could do...

(20:04:06) marcello3d: drawing competition
(20:04:09) marcello3d: computers, setup with tablets
(20:04:13) marcello3d: some kind of raffle
(20:04:16) marcello3d: maybe like 2draw shirts and shiz
(20:04:25) marcello3d: probably some "free" shit for everyone, too
(20:04:33) marcello3d: go out to some place as a crew to eat or something
(20:04:44) marcello3d: probably talk about some secret shit
(20:04:54) Snoozy017: oh, yeah
(20:05:08) marcello3d: dunno
(20:05:10) marcello3d: drinking games?
(20:05:44) Snoozy017: !
(20:05:44) Snoozy017: yes
(20:05:50) marcello3d: like how much milk
(20:05:51) Snoozy017: oh, and the classic fallback: BAD MOVIES
(20:05:52) marcello3d: you can hold
(20:05:54) marcello3d: hah
(20:06:01) marcello3d: well that would depend where it is and how big I think
(20:06:14) marcello3d: maybe we could show people what real paintbrushes look like
(20:06:26) Snoozy017: !!!!!
(20:06:27) Snoozy017: whoah
(20:06:29) marcello3d: yea
(20:06:31) Snoozy017: REAL MEDIA ZOMG
(20:06:35) marcello3d: totally
(20:06:44) marcello3d: dunno what else
(20:06:55) marcello3d: we could have some kind of user contributed stuff, though I can't think what
(20:06:57) marcello3d: oooh
(20:07:04) marcello3d: maybe people interested in doing tutorials for it
(20:07:09) Snoozy017: ohh!
(20:07:09) marcello3d: like I shall draw a cat kind of thing
(20:07:11) marcello3d: like live
(20:07:11) Snoozy017: that would be cool
(20:07:37) marcello3d: but yea, I dunno
(20:07:42) marcello3d: that sounds like plenty
(20:07:47) marcello3d: plus it's new mexico, there's a lot of cool shit around
(20:07:52) marcello3d: we could go up to santa fe and laugh at the galleries
(20:08:00) Snoozy017: oh yeah
(20:08:05) marcello3d: dunno what kind of public trans there is up there

  icon

I love Wyoming.
  icon
BlitzCloud (Nov 28, 2005)
I suggested Canada because i wanted to go there before, and if ihave to pay alot of money for a *************************** flying ticket, i want to see a new place. But i can go to LA too, my aunt lives there :)
  icon
marcello (Nov 28, 2005)
If it's successful, we'll probably do more than one, so yea.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 28, 2005)
i actually do kinda like the idea of going to an art museum, then we could all hit a burger king or something. suspecting it can be a few days long, we could just ravel in a large group like a bunch of foreigners, and gawk at some of the stuff the city has to offer, or state or wherevers, but i think the main point is just to get together and get to know eachother as peoples better anyways, so doing a bunch of pointless semi-interesting stuff is alright. -just tossing ideas around-
  icon
Nyuusen (Nov 29, 2005)
I don't see why people over 13 wouldn't be able to go as long as they had parental permission. XP You could do permission slips or release forms if you really are worried about that.

Unless it takes a year and a half to actually plan the meet, then it's fine. >>

  icon
Maiko (Nov 29, 2005)

we could have uhm...mountain dew drinking games...or coffee.... :O

kasie is my hotel buddy. you're all jealous.
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 29, 2005)
OK, I figured out how we can do this. Since I'm the only one that anyone cares about seeing anyway, because I'm the greatest man that ever lived, I'll just make a list of people that I'll allow and those people can come to my house for as long as I can stand them, then I'll tell them to go away (minimum of 10 min. and maximum of 24 hours) and the next person can come over untill weve gone down the list.
  icon

ill only come if you dress like fred flintstone and bake me cookies u.u' because there is no doubt in my mind that you want me to come.

I could do Albuquerque. But I hate typing "Albuquerque" can we just call it Hank from now on?

ditto. abq works, but I figured not to err on the side of confusion.
  icon

I could go on the Weekend.
I work 10 hours everyday on weekdays, & It takes me an hour to get to work.

Although it wouldn't happen, California has better attractions than NM ;).
  icon
Axil62 (Nov 29, 2005)
I'm not going to any attractions...I'm going to whatever building we meet at, meeting people, talking to them, having a drink, talking some more, going to my room, going to bed.
  icon
rosalyn (Nov 29, 2005)
i'll probably bum a ride with Gigandas : D
  icon
Gigandas (Nov 29, 2005)
That's if I choose to go. I think my chances of going are pretty low though. There's not too many people that are gonna be there who want me there anyway, haha.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 29, 2005)
The attraction is meeting EACH OTHER.... and Niel, we all feel that way. We all think nobody wants to meet "us", personally, but yes, we do... I wish Marcello would really do it and everyone would show up. I think it would be the most wonderful thing.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 29, 2005)
i could probobly come, i mean, i know my parents wont care, its just the money which is the problem. so i guess if i hop on a job soon it wont be a problem either... hmmm
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 29, 2005)
Abq is as good as any other place, no matter where you choose some will have to travel. The date is the hard part.
  icon
sincity (Nov 29, 2005)
If the timing is right. I'm there. Have it in Vegas. We have tons of convention halls. :}
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 29, 2005)
I don't think it's gonna be a convention hall size group Mike; sounds more like a six-pack and an RV size.
  icon
BlitzCloud (Nov 30, 2005)
Btw when do you have holidays there in summer?

I want to go to US... But you can calculate it aint worth for 2 days. I would like to be like, 1 week. But i cant do that until easter hoidays or summer.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 30, 2005)
haha we should do it on easter, and have an egg hunt
  icon
Maiko (Nov 30, 2005)
let's all go to seaworld and harrass the dolphins :D
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 30, 2005)
Well cello was talking generally about "spring" easter is in spring.but it's also a big family holiday and hard for some to be away during that.
  icon
Noremac (Nov 30, 2005)
ill bring a portable strobe light, i bet the fish will love that
  icon
Hakkai (Nov 30, 2005)
Maaaarch! Have it in Maaarch! Spring break! Between the 17th and 27th perferably on a weekend.

Orbits tells me that the lowest air fare is around 300 for me and thats for a round trip! S'not too bad. I just have to work and save up after grabbing books for the spring semester.. =/

D= and I need a hotel room too.

Edit: OMGz! Train fare for a round trip is doubled that amount! 600-700 for a round trip ticket. x__x
  icon
Alex-Cooper (edited Nov 30, 2005)
Drinking games, eh? I'm sold on this idea.
I need to go on a psychadelic road trip anyway.
  icon
Maiko (Nov 30, 2005)
2drawCon would be a lot of money though :o
how 'bout we do...uhmmm

  icon
staci (edited Nov 30, 2005)
sounds cool..i have no idea what Hank is like..how's it for public transportation...and $300 isnt bad, if you hook up with a hotel buddy you save there..and us chicks shouldnt have to worry a thing about paying for our own drinks ; P
  icon
PolythenePam (Nov 30, 2005)
Wouldn't you all rather come to New Zealand?
  icon
davincipoppalag (Nov 30, 2005)
I know I would!
  icon
Nyuusen (Nov 30, 2005)
You know, 2draw could just get a panel at the nearest con of whatever nature. *shrug*

Zach (Nov 30, 2005)
I don't see why people over 13 wouldn't be able to go as long as they had parental permission. XP You could do permission slips or release forms if you really are worried about that.
I agree.
Well, me being a teen, I'll have no problem at all if I am forced to sleep in the girls hotel room! Whee for cafeen! @nd t3h s3xx0rz!
  icon
Nyuusen (edited Nov 30, 2005)
You're 13, you don't get sex. XP
  icon
marcello (Nov 30, 2005)
I honestly don't know much about how good public transportation is, not using it myself. There's a really nice bus system with wifi on it though, heh. There's probably enough interesting sites in abq/santa fe (if we can figure out some way to bus up there) to make it a worthwhile destination. Plus Vince and I will be here to actually be able to setup/organize stuff ('cause doing all that and flying somewhere to do it would be a pain in the neck). I guess we'll figure out more of that when this becomes more realistic/feasible.

The first one would probably be 2draw-inspired meet and stuff for legal and resource reasons. I doubt we'll have enough cash or people to do a convention type thing, plus I'm sure there are plenty of regulations and restrictions on doing something like this since we can't hold any liability (hence not easily allowing minors). I think whatever it is, though, we'll make it worthwhile to come if we get enough interested people. I honestly don't really know how to deal with that issue, not being in that situation. I doubt it matters for 16+, but anyone under 18 who actually is interested and able to come, feel free to explain how you think it should be done.

I know you can get $99 each way (so ~$200 roundtrip) Southwest to California (LA, Oakland, etc., it varies which they have the deals on) from here from time to time. They tend to have lots of deals if you keep up (or get on their mailing list). Trains is almost probably not worth it, price and time-wise (plus amtrak sucks).

I can think of a few things we could do, but it's also possible we can get some space at the university or whatever if we wanted to do something bigger than small or even have access to computers. Dunno, want to add thoughts, Vince?
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 30, 2005)
I think, realistically, it would be impossible for you to organize and hold it from anywhere except for where you are, Marcello. Anyplace you choose will be easy for some to access and hard for others, regardless of where it is. Another upside to that is that New Mexico is one of the art-richest places I have ever been. Santa Fe and Albuquerque are overflowing with magnificent culture, as you well know. Someplace at the university would be great for the actual event, and you could just have a list of hotels available to people for them to choose from. Although everyone hanging out in the same hotel would be lots of fun, as a plus. If you wanted to actually have it at a convention center, the legalities are rather easy to deal with. It's called a "release form" ;)... people hit the door, they sign a form that says you can abuse them, maime them, kill them, etc., and you and yours aren't liable. I can send you one that would work for this thing. lol
  icon
marcello (Nov 30, 2005)
make sure you add a clause that anyone who acts up will be greeted by a certain 44.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 30, 2005)
Already, done... and it'll be "packed" and ready to ride, of course. :)
  icon
method3 (edited Nov 30, 2005)
Ok, here's the extent of my knowledge on convetion type dealios. I've gone to everything from the very huge (Akon) convention to the garage party, and I know we're not going to have funds to pull off a huge deal. That being said, it won't be too much to ask for a place to rent for a weekend if we can get people to pay entrance fees. No matter how you look at things, it will be very difficult to do this without tickets to fund from the get go.

The non-profit group I have worked with has an association with another outstanding group that has many influential connections in the NM area. This is the only reason that we have been able to survive for so long (about 7+ years?) by hopping from place to place with fairly cheap rent (used to be once a month). Finding a space will be our number one problem, so placement needs to be nailed down before all else.

Now the number of people who can come coincides with when it will be, so dates should be decided next. That's when we can put up notice about pre-registration and guesstimate how much we should spend. Marcello and I can go to UNM and try to work a deal, even get together with the group I know of for help on getting a good deal on a place. Lodging over the weekend and food should be handled by the attendees... we can't guarantee anything ourselves because we don't have the hookup with a hotel.

All that being said, my experiences at Akon leads me to believe the best arrangement we can get would be to host this thing in a large hotel. That way we can guarantee lodging in one location, transportation won't be a problem unless we're going somewhere else, and food shouldn't be a problem either since a few places should be in walking distance. All this for a large convention idea with some random activities...

For the small "get together" everything is placed on the shoulders of the attendee. Lodging, transportation, food would have to be arranged by you. We wouldn't charge anything, but you'd basically be responsible for getting to whatever place at whatever time. IE, McDonald's at 3am, be there or else...

Oh yeah, almost forgot to say that the non-profit group we have has no problems with "underage" people showing up, no waivers needed or anything. If we did want to do this, we can require (pre-)registration to be with an adult/guardian, but I don't think it's necessary. The fact that one has to get here first kinda assumes that you're not going to be by yourself at the age of 12 or something.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Nov 30, 2005)
If you actually wanted to hold this thing at a convention center in a hotel, it might not be as expensive as you think. Sometimes you can get a very reasonable rate if they think they are going to get business (which they always do) because of the event being held at their hotel. Some hotels might not even charge for the convention room if they are assured of rooms being booked. You might just want to call a couple there locally and see, and if there is a cost, let some of us know and maybe a few of us can pitch in and make it happen for everyone.

(I think it's a wonderful idea, I have always thought we should do something like this, and I know there are those of us that are willing to help make it happen)

safescene (Nov 30, 2005)
Hrm.

...

Yeah. Think I'd show up.
  icon
SanzoGirl (Nov 30, 2005)
Yay! :D
We should have it in Hartford!
Or, maybe we should have them in different places, that way no one is left out! :D

*sigh* no chance for me over here in England :(
  icon
davincipoppalag (Dec 1, 2005)

  icon
Noremac (Dec 1, 2005)
i guess ill wait in the car
  icon
Kloxboy (Dec 1, 2005)
I'll go if you pay me $5K. I'm only going to sing one song though, otherwise it's another $2K.

Zach (Dec 1, 2005)
You're 13, you don't get sex. XP
Hey, I can dream can't I?
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 1, 2005)
Awww, Noremac. You can't wait in the car, it's hot in Albuquerque in the spring sometimes. You'll just have to sit in the parking lot on the pavement.
  icon
SanzoGirl (Dec 1, 2005)
Yay! I get to go with Dave and Alex! :D
But if we can make it, I wanna room with Mai and Hakkai! :D
Mountian Dew! That's my favorite drink of all time! D:
I could bring ramune and pockey! x3
  icon
Hakkai (Dec 1, 2005)
Do0d! We're going to have a full hotel room. ME, Mai, Eduardo, and Sanzo Girl. We might as well have everyone in our room! =D Have one huge party in our room!
  icon
Maiko (Dec 1, 2005)

DejasView (Dec 1, 2005)
Hey Dan, if this ends up being in New Mexico maybe Jill and I could go with you? It would be a kick, eh? First ever trip for the three of us. There are several people here on 2draw the I think I might enjoy meeting.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 1, 2005)
I think I would enjoy meeting anybody in Mr. Party Pooper's family. ;)

DejasView (Dec 1, 2005)
You see the thing is...Jill and I would be needed in order to keep His Royal Assholeness in line. Wait...what am I thinking??? That's impossible! But still, any chance for us get to be together is hard to pass up. We all see each other maybe once or twice a year even though we all live in the same meto area.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Dec 1, 2005)
You should make more time to be together. His Royal Assholeness (LMAO) needs his sisters, as sisters are the only ones allowed to thump knots on guys like his heads, I think. My brothers and I live relatively close and don't see enough of each other, and they really get out of line when I don't keep track of them. Someday I think we'll regret not spending more time with our siblings.
  icon
davincipoppalag (Dec 1, 2005)
Absolutely . Family is the most important thing there is. I wish I had more time with my brother before he died. There may not BE a tomorrow, do it now.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 1, 2005)
THAT.... really got to me. Both of my brothers are cops and I pray every night that they make it home alive, I always wonder... why don't we make more time? You are so right. I'm gonna see both of them this week (whether they like it or not heh)
  icon
davincipoppalag (Dec 1, 2005)
Anyway..let's list what we do know at this point

1. It sounds like Abq NM is the location
2. It sounds like it will be in March-April , near spring break for colleges
3. It sounds like it will be a fairly small number of people, maybe 30 or less
4. It sounds like all staying in the same hotel/motel would be the likeliest scenario
5. It sounds like a weekend sort of time frame would work best
6. It sounds like the room to visit for fun will be where Kai, Mai, Eduardo and Sanzo will be staying.
  icon
Noremac (Dec 2, 2005)
im so sleeping on the roof :D

Zach (Dec 2, 2005)
Uh... I don't think ABQ is the best location.... Maybe Toronto... or something....

I'd like to come, but I don't think the idea'd be so hot with my parents. Additionally, this is my junior year, which comes along with a huge workload, and I don't think I can get away from it. Too bad. If another one happens in a year, though, I could probably make that.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 5, 2005)
Of course you can come, visc... I'll be your chaperone. :D (not that you need one, you're more mature than most of the adults I know)

Marcello! Get offa your ass and get busy, this thing isn't gonna organize itself.

I'd LIKE to come to NM for the 2draw-con thinga-ma-bobber during the spring and on a weekend, perferably during spring break.

But it depends if I can pull 300 or so dollars outta my ass after I pay for my books next semester. =/

O_O
it must be weird to be able to pull money out of one's ass :O;;; I wanna try it

Shanghai (edited Dec 31, 2005)
how about Denver, right in the middle and a major hub for airlines. I could probably find a spot on the auraria campus? Maybe.

and do it after school gets out, like end of May.

also realize that everyone's spring break is during a different week.
  icon
marcello (Dec 31, 2005)
We're doing it in Albuquerque, probably some weekend in March. May is too late for me, so it will have to be during the semester.
When are people's spring breaks? It might help to get an idea what weekends work best.

Shanghai (Dec 31, 2005)
I so did not bother reading half the thread XP

also, I had to look up where this so called "Albuquerque" was, though I have heard of it.
Apparently mine is Monday-Sunday, March 20-26, but I've known people with it the week after or before me, and it seems like I've had it various weeks too.
  icon
TaCO (Dec 31, 2005)
So this is defiantly going to happen???
  icon
squee (Dec 31, 2005)
convention? hell yes. I'd go.
  icon
marcello (Dec 31, 2005)
first one won't be a convention, just an unofficial meet/gathering type deal. we don't have the funds or legal backing for anything serious.
  icon
Axil62 (Dec 31, 2005)
See ya there.
  icon
kristine (Dec 31, 2005)
I'd go...

I'll go! I would love to spend time with my brother and sister. We've never done that before.
  icon
Pantera (Feb 5, 2006)
Wow, that would be sooo cool, I would love to go as long as I am not in the process of moving again, Please do not have it in the month of March, that is when my husband comes home from Iraq. This would be awsome to see everyone in person :)

Hey Marcello, I am still waiting for that address you were going to e mail me :)
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 5, 2006)
Are we still doing this?
  icon
marcello (Feb 5, 2006)
pantera: I don't know what your e-mail address is, did you send me an e-mail? (It must have been marked as spam if you did.)

I don't know if we're doing this. Right now it seems like no, since there's not enough interest/people caring (only 2~3 people it seems).
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 5, 2006)
I think there's a few more than that, but yell if you still want me to call and check on the hotel situation... if you made definite plans and had details and did an rsvp thing here, you'd probably get more precise responses.
  icon
TaCO (Feb 5, 2006)
I was all excited about going to Albuquerque. I never went past Texas before.

I hope it's not canceled.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 5, 2006)
I counted more than 2 or 3 people that were interested... but... I'm not the King here, so.
  icon
marcello (Feb 5, 2006)
Referring to people who said they would come to the time/place mentioned in newer thread.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 5, 2006)
do I know where the "newer" thread is? *looks lost*
  icon
marcello (Feb 5, 2006)
I would hope so, you posted on it a bunch.

I still think we should do the con, but I was a bit demotivated at the low response and number of people who basically decided they wouldn't be able to make it.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Feb 5, 2006)
I thought there was another spot where we talked about this, but I couldn't remember what the title of it was. I understand... it sort of took the wind out of my sails when I saw the responses, but I think if it were actually sort of a "done deal", with really good details, you'd be surprised at how many people would commit to go and show up. I mean, we could plan it, and then if the actual set rsvp's didn't justify it, only those few people will have to change their plans, right? I'm still coming whether we have it or not!
  icon
marcello (Feb 5, 2006)
Ok, I'll try to work something out by the weekend.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Feb 5, 2006)
I'll check on the hotel situation, you nail down a date (just do one that's the most convenient for you and whomever is close there and helping you...) Then start a new forum thread stating the date with nothing allowed to be posted except for people rsvp'ing if they think they might seriously be able to, and are planning to come. That's what I would do, anyway. That'll give you the best idea about whether there's enough serious interest.
  icon
marcello (Feb 5, 2006)
yep.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 5, 2006)
Stop babbling on and on and using such big words! You expect me to read all that? ;)
  icon
SYTHE (Feb 5, 2006)
Here's a thought, why don't we just set up some kind of video conference? It would be alot less expensive, and alot less headaches.
  icon
Maiko (Feb 5, 2006)
that would be fun filled :B
  icon
Orkdoop (Feb 5, 2006)
well, I would love love to go, but I would be scared to ruin my dads fun...and leaving my mom and sister alone. and also not having a friend with me...because my dad might want to hang out with other people or whatever...blah...

but It would be fun to see... its up to money.
  icon
marcello (Feb 6, 2006)
video conference? gross. but there's nothing really stopping you from doing that already. don't need much organization for that.
