this is great. he really has a lot of character. and a charming expression. love the choice of color- my favorite. looks almost like colored pencils on colored paper. great title too

I love the way this piece looks -- kind of like some sort of pastel medium on black velvet or black artist's board, yet with an effect that is a cross between photorealism and some sort of living Comedia del Arte mask! <smile> Axil's right, the veining is a wonderful touch, but the piece as a whole is so strong it's hard for me to single out a specific detail to comment on, other than his expression and the way you've rendered it.

I like the description of him as a "living gargoyle" -- this image is indeed grotesque, yet strangely "hugable", at the same time. It's almost like his humanity has been taken to such extremes that it can't be expressed in a true human form anymore; he looks experienced, thoughtful, gentle, resigned, kindly, and as though he has decided to face whatever life can throw at him with good humour and an appreciation for the absurd.

Somehow, he reminds me of some of the Holocaust survivors I've known, and others like them -- people who have seen too much, and whose eyes are sad, as a result... ...but who have decided that the lines they write into their face will be those of their joy in life, despite an intimate understanding of its dark side.

All in all, a top-notch piece of artwork! :)

reminds me of gollum, for some strange reason....

evil_cloud (Nov 13, 2004)
i knew something was wrong with that pic, the line from the nose should be the same of the lip's corner, its not normal to have 2
Kloxboy (Nov 13, 2004)
That's great Evil, thanks.
evil_cloud (Nov 13, 2004)
Oh and i forgot to say XD

Its is very nice, ill never be ale to shade like this :)
Xodiak (Nov 21, 2004)
Eduardo, this is not always true. The line from the nose is not always the same as the lip's corner. Here are some examples:

You will notice that they are all bodybuilders. I picked this kind of pictures because bodybuilders have less fat tissue on their body than most people and therefore you can notice the definition of the facial muscles.
