There's something more than vaguely obscene about that nose...very cool graphic and the background werks perfeck with it. Now get that guy away from me. Brrrrrrrr. |

showcase please.

Very beautiful. The colours are so lovely and her expression is compelling--I get a sense of worry or indecision. The only thing I might suggest working on is the dark shadow above her eyelid--if you could soften the edge of that to give the impression of a smoother increase in the roundness of the bone structure just below the eyebrow.

This would be infinately better if I was allowed to take life drawing :(

The legs reminds me of les triplettes de belleville... The upper arms seem a bit off, I realize it's characturized, but even relatively speaking that's a bit too thin considering the rest of teh muscles. And clearly the waist is a bit small, that's a little too much perspective... but in any case, very well done, and better than anything I could do, so yea, damn you.
fleeting_memory (Nov 3, 2005)
I like this. The whole drawing, but especially the face, really reminds me of the art in that show "Avatar, the last Airbender" I love the toes!

Well, yeah, the anatomy has some problems...if you straightened him out he'd be too long between his rib cage and his pelvic structure. And yes, the arms are skinny in comparison to the rest of his body type...but because of the fluid lines and the energy of your drawing style, it works very well. I don't find myself looking at the anatomy because I'm too busy enjoying the overall effect. Why can't you take a life drawing class, if that's not being too nosy?

Oooo. I love the way you've mixed the desaturated tones of the hat and her skin with the supersaturated colours of her lips, her kimono and the background. The hat is *ahem* well, dammit, amazing. Love the tension in the chin strap/skin and the way you've just managed to hide her eyes from the viewer...so we're always trying to peer up under the edge of the hat. Critiques? Hmmm. That gorgeous bouncelight underneath her chin makes me wish there was a tiny bit of shine on the skin of her cheek. But's that nitpicking. I love this.

It's insane how much subtle texture is in the skin here. I can't begin to imagine how to do this with lascaux sketch, and it'd still be incredible regardless of the medium.

The hair is awesome, veyr nice portrait.
terracotta (Dec 27, 2005)
This is a real eye-catcher; the way you've done the backlighting on the hair is really nice and dramatic. If this were mine and I was going to rework it (not saying I think you should) I'd put some highlighting on the hair over her forehead to give it more dimension--it looks a bit flat. Also, underneath that part of the hair there is a shadow that makes the skin above her eye look indented. The shadow's there in the photo, it's just much lighter. I might try to make the eyeball look more rounded. The mouth and teeth are so well-done it looks like cut and paste! lol. Very nice job. (Hope you don't mind me making some suggestions.)
RoHcky (Dec 28, 2005)
By all means, comment away. I would like to edit the picture, but I went over the alotted picture size and am too lazy to contact the admin to request more. I have touched up the picture using Painter IX and will post a link when I'm done. I will take all suggestions given here into consideration. Thanks for the comments/critiques. |

terracotta (Dec 26, 2005)
Very cool abstract and shiny metal FX. (just think...the holidays are almost over and all our dysfunctional family stuff can move back into the sidelines where it belongs.)
Miss_DJ (Dec 27, 2005)
thanks terracotta! you're right...soon it will be life as usual, yeah! |
