This is a blue heron, painted based on the one in this photo, which I found on the web. I started out working without an immediate visual reference, but the bird I created looked nothing like a Blue Heron, so I started over, working from the photo. For that matter, any useful comments and suggestions will be gratefully appreciated -- not that I would say no to compliments, either... *grin* Edit: I specifically chose the reference photo that I did, because I liked the soft, painted look of the heron in the photo itself. So, this piece will still have a soft look, just a more detailed soft look, when finished. Any suggestions on technique to achieve that look would be very welcome. :) |

You wouldn't worry so much about what other people thought of you if you realized how seldom they do.

Yes, sleep eludes me for long periods of time, which is why I draw all night here lately. And I know you aren't kidding about the hallucinations - it took between 4 and 5 days with no sleep before I had them, but boy is that scary. My name is not an acronym, it's Cindy. You can just call me that. I mean call me Cindy, not *that*. lol Your comment was very helpful, cheered me up, and the cowboy and I like the drawing much better this way. :)
alwaysLearning (Mar 11, 2004)
Thanks, Cindy, I'm pleased ta meetcha! :) I'm even more pleased that you found the comment helpful, and that it cheered you up. I know what it's like to have too many nights when sleep eludes you, and a friendly comment can make a world of difference to me, so I try to aim for saying something both friendly and useful.FYI, my hallucinations tended toward the bizarrely entertaining, the sole convincing one being <flourish of trumpets> a cardboard box. It's a funny story, message me sometime when you're bored or need a laugh, and I'll tell it to you. :)

Watch me the first on to post on this board. Please check out meh Elfwood gallery; I live off the comments there. Seriously. And if any of you complain or mention that I should get a Deviantart gallery, I'll...thwap you with a sock. Because I despise that place. They haven't absolutely horrible navigation/organization. Done whining now. [edit]: Fixed, thanks Zappo. Malo linko? Wonderful Spanish skills there.

I've seen discussions of lost pictures here, (for various reasons, ranging from applet or computer crash to moderator deletion), and I thought I should share my methods for avoiding serious problems from this, in case they're of use to anyone else. I've also seen people very upset over having lost their only copy of their work, as a result of someone else's decisions. So, this post is not here to add fuel to that fire, because potential deletion by the moderators isn't the only reason to sav...

The first of what I hope to be a long line of tarot drawings...The Star represents a new beginning. It shows new experiences, and that the past ones your yearning to forget, will soon be forgotten. The Star is hope and a fresh start.

Oh just realised - the red is her sock!you know for all this time I never realised what people were going on about with the red colour- than I turned up the brightness on my screen and realised I had used dark red instead of dark blue in some of the shadows.. so now I have painted it out,,,,,argh! I have the light on the screen turned down because everything looks too bright...

This is how my niece went. The practise shot went through the bedroom wall and just missed my nephew. Dark topic, but I'm glad you addressed it. I do wish the figure didn't have that "devil-may-care" smile, though.<goes off to take an emotional breather>

I *am* going for something stylized, not photo-exact, so I'm not trying for exact feathers -- but at the same time I am also trying for something that's got the look and feel of that photo, since that's what made me choose it. So, the question stands, if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get that look and feel a bit more closely on the wings. Regardless, I still appreciate the comment, feedback, and suggestion.
Edit: Thanks for the suggestion, DBA! I'm still getting used to the options on the different applets, and there are some things I seem to be able to get Shi-Painter to do that I can't seem to manage on Lascaux, yet -- but there *is* an airbrush option, I'll have to give it a try, next painting session. *smile* Thanks again!
