I'm not sure if I'm finished yet or not.
Shanghai (edited Mar 12, 2005)
I think that you can work on the hair a bit more before calling it finished. The color scheme looks good but the way you've set it up there's black likes and airbrushed color, and they don't match up. Because in places a bright highlight will cross over from one part of hair, over a black line, and onto another part of hair, it makes me wonder why even have the lines if they don't have any relation with the light and shadow. To make this finished I'd like to see you adjust thost highlights and shaded areas to match up with the lines better.

I think it could use more refinement before calling it finished. Watercolors are great for their delicacy and their flow, though that's not the only way they're used, but here I'm getting much more the impression of a marker that was running out of ink rather than the smoothness of water. I think you should pay more attention to the lighting and the shadows here myself.

silver_maiden (Mar 11, 2005)
really cool! i luve the pose!
Shanghai (Mar 11, 2005)
I like how it's looking, but I'm not sure if there was a real reason you made the darks on her shirt the same color as the background. The reason I'm bringing that up is because it's causing her body to become lost in the background and she'd have a lot more definement if you used a slightly different shade.
StrawberryYamichan (Mar 11, 2005)
Cute style :D! The lineart is sorta blinding compared to the colours, but the colours are pretty. Hehe, can I have her shirt?

does she have a nervous tick or something?
Shanghai (Mar 10, 2005)
I'm not really seeing dark/mad/sad, more like tired and wondering what's next. I think that from this angel and with ears that big we should be able to see at least part of her left ear.
yuohoo (Mar 10, 2005)
ahhh well I was tired, sorry for the mistakes.....and.NO SHE DOSE'T HAVE A NERVOUS TICK!...man my thoughts of comments at first are really wrong...man I think i well turn into the fairy you see befor you....but I look a bit more.....oh welll never mind. but I welll try to do mty best to please and serve people.

I think each of Dan's cartoons have a certain quality that only an Intermediate artist (or better) could achieve. The compositions were thought out and the concept for the series is a quick read, as they were intended. Many editorial cartoonist and illustrators use little to no color and have subtle backgrounds if any at all. The simplicity and style will probably be lost on folks who hold a finished picture to color and complexity. I like the series, it's refreshing and it's not Anime, keep em' coming Dan!

oo don't be so mean to each other >_<' lineart is hard! oh yeah and the pick is cute
Childlike_Vampire (Mar 10, 2005)
I will say ditto to Clox. I probably couldn't even copy this in thrice the time it took him to draw it. Especially the hands.
Axil62 (Mar 10, 2005)
Hey thanks for moving and saving them. Let me just explain that the reason two of them were on intermediate and one was on advanced was becase I was doing them fast and you can only post two on each board at a time, so I simply moved to the next level to keep posting. Also let me just say to Clox and CV, thanks for recognizing them for what they are and attempting to illuminate. Wise beyond your years I say.

I wish it were larger, but it's still looking good. Your use of grey gives a somber mood to this, and the fact she's dancing with a shadow furthers that into a feeling of loneliness to me.
blackmamba (Mar 10, 2005)
you are right . she is alone. and thanks

Since you say it'll be scary later I'm wondering if you're planning on adjusting the expression. As it is she looks somewhat happy and has an anticipating look to her, sort of like a puppy. Maybe if you changed it enough that she's not so innocently happy but more in a sinister way then combined with the anticipation she'd look like she's about to attack?

grr doing scary is hard..
Shanghai (Mar 11, 2005)
I think now it's looking a bit disturbing, and the harsher lighting helps a lot. To some extent there's an aspect of fear here, partly from her looking scared and partly from us being concerned about what it is she's seeing/experiencing that has her in this state, but I'm not sensing the fear being something that she is purposefully causing. It's more like she's the one in fear and we feel it through her. The pure and near-pure whites you've used in her, her clothes, and the background all add up to giving an impression of hositalization. Maybe she's in a mental hospital? The collar on her neck certainly indicates bondage and being inprisoned because of the chain link on it. If you wanted to explore that further you could have some aspect of being wrongfully placed in a mental institute, something that does sometimes happen and is a very real fear that many people have.
plasma_ooganator (Mar 12, 2005)
you should make a black and red background. and the thing on her cheek should be red

It's looking good, but I'd like it if there were a few harder lines and edges around the eyes and the rest of the head, just to give it more definition.

I like that you kept the background simple, since you knew it'd be shrunk down when made into an icon, but that you didn't just leave it black.

This looks really good. Did a good job on the grass and fog. I'd like to see the sun behind the clouds on the right side of the image..actually it almost looks like there is.
