This is like a book illustration plate, and judging from the picture, I want to read the book.
Caddris (Jan 26, 2006)

Quickie is too similar to her ref. What use is a drawing if it's simply a copy of the truth? A copy of the truth is just that, the truth, and lies are a dozen times more interesting. What the heck does Allen Ginsberg want? Why is America so easy to generalize? Why do we believe everything we see on the television? Can't we think for ourselves anymore? Could we ever. What will become of our computers when the Electricty takes off her clothes I can not think of what I would rather want a toothbrush or a toothpick why do i think so much when i draw and why can't i stop thinking now im okay
terracotta (Jan 23, 2006)
I think this is a very effective picture. I tell myself that I copy the truth in order to teach myself to really see something, not just glance at it, make a snap judgement, store it in a vague memory or dismiss it. I love to draw but I do not have a natural facility for noticing visual details and storing them in my 'mind's eye'. Work that is copied or referenced directly from a source is rarely something that will elicit an emotional response from me, though I may admire the technical skill displayed. I want to believe there is a stage or phase in one's development of skill where the urge to 'speak' or express one's feelings or thoughts melds with one's technical abilities and something I think of as Art happens. I'm not there.
Renuar (Jan 23, 2006)
it's a great drawing, with a nice idea behind it.
mx (Jan 23, 2006)
as terracotta mentioned between the technical skill vs. expression....i have a great conflict between the two myself. I want to do the realism as this great pic, yet, i wanna be freed from the technical restrictions. I have not found my style either and its causing a great deal of frustration i must say.Great technical piece though for the time spent
HunterKiller_ (Jan 24, 2006)
This is a quickie? Wow, amazing. Very well done, you've captured the alert mood of the bird perfectly. |

I tryed to make the little sperms look like mouses...egh...they kinda do.
HunterKiller_ (Jan 17, 2006)
Very clear idea. Nicely drawn too, perfect systhesis of microscopic viewing colours.
SYTHE (Jan 17, 2006)
Originally I was going to have it more black and white. Then I decided to add some blue-ish tinting, but that didn't fly, so I went with yellow-ish tinting. Just about any color looks "Okay" as long as it looks kinda diffused.
Felistorm (Jan 18, 2006)
Hmmmm Mice or sperm w/ thongs. o.O hehe. I LOVE this concept. Awesome! :D
SYTHE (Jan 22, 2006)
No you silly, the mice aren't wearing thongs, I am.......just kidding........or am I?!? |

SYTHE (Jan 15, 2006)
He should have a combat patch on his right shoulder were the flag is and the flag under that, then it would be perfect. Wearing the patch in this manner signifies that he was deployed to a combat zone. Great peice.SYTHE, Thanks for the heads-up on the meaning of the patch above the flag. This is of the return of a friend and his wife. He proudly served in Iraq and arrived home safe on Thanksgiving night.
emmamommalag (Jan 21, 2006)
This is a lovely tribute to your friend. I'm glad he arrived home safe and sound and I'm grateful to him for his service to our country.

feathering layers? i dont think ive ever heard of that...anyway, i really like this! it reminds me of the sleeping bear sand dunes^^
Anna (Jan 5, 2006)
I have no idea how to feather layers but I do know a little about using opacity, flow, and blend. They're mah best friends.
kristine (edited Jan 5, 2006)
hey froot, you ever tried shi? its a tad bit easier is the shading dept., i think :) but i like this, it reminds me of the old days :) good job.
Felistorm (Jan 5, 2006)
