I'm trying to get a feel for what a new roleplaying character of mine looks like, she's rather shy, so it's hard to get it just right.

I don't see a character at all..but what I see, I like.. This looks to me like sunrays coming into an indian lodge and resting on a dreamcatcher or some such object with feathers hanging on the wall..
Brea83 (Apr 16, 2004)
Well, I was going to work on this more today, but it would appear that I've gone and run out of space on it. I know I'm supposed to ask a moderator for more space. So, do I send them a private msg? And who exactly should I send it to?

And thank you all so much for the comments. ^^ They make me feel special.
I don't know how you see a dreamcatcher type thing, but that's really cool. I'm trying but I can't get myself to see anything other than my character, but that's probably because I drew it.
davincipoppalag (Apr 16, 2004)
Well Brea. Marcello is the head honcho you can memo him.. Open the picture..and copy and paste the link to it in your memo so he knows where you need the space.. (you will lose a couple of points but..)

So I lied.. I didnt go to bed like I should have. Bad me, no more peppermints.
But anyway, I was browsing through some of the art on the other boards, and I found some really nasty flames.. And it shocked me to see the way that some people acted. There was so much hatred, and everyone seemed to have forgotten what art really is.
It's not some pretty thing to be looked at. It can be downright ugly and unfinished looking, and it can still be an amasing piece.
The instructor for an oil painting class I took not long ago told me that the real art is in the process(sp?) of the painting, not the end results.
Art is an outlet, art is where people(well I do at least) get away from all the things that the world weighs them down with. Art is where I pick up shattered dreams and make them real, at least to look at, and it's also the place I put my negative emotions so that they dont end up hurting me
The words in this image were inspired by the deep sence of not belonging that I felt due to some of the things I read when browsing. I'm still new here, and I'm probably one of those people who take up too much space. And I don't talk very often either, usually only when I post a drawing. That sense of not belonging triggered the greater sense of not belonging at all in society. I'm not Christian, and some of the things that mainstream Christians have done over the ages frightens me, it frightens me to no end. Countless innocent people died durring the time of the witch trials. And although modern times restrict what people can do to eachother, people who dont follow everyone else are shunned a little at best, and hated at worst. Now I'm not saying that all Christians are bad or mean, I know plenty of really cool people who are Christian, but when people go too far it can be intimidating and/or offensive.
Anyway, I'm rambling on far too much, I'll just write my snippet of unfinnished poetry now and be off x_x bloody hec it's 5 am, I am sooo dead.
This is dedicated to anyone who is Pagan(not devil worshipers, earth worshipers) and to anyone of uncertain or non-straight sexual orientation.
If I said I wasn't Christian
Would you throw me in a lake?
Would you beat me and accuse me
If I said I wasn't Straight?
I'd offer to ease your pain,
To lend a listening ear,
But all you speak is hatred
of me and all my kin.
If only I could heal my wounds with words..
Would you burn me at the steak,
If I said I wasn't Christian, or
If I said I wasnt Straight?
(only parts of that are in the picture)

ya spelled stake wrong... sorry, that's buggin' me
Brea83 (Mar 29, 2004)
eh heh, yeah, it would appear I did spell that wrong. ^^;; but realize I did most of this at like three or four in the morning..
Dang that's embarrassing, but I've never really been the best at spelling, although I do try.. I've always had to cram before spelling tests, but merely days after said test I'll have forgotten how to spell most of the words, it's really awful.
LovelyLori (Mar 29, 2004)
such is life... c'est la vie... we can't all be spelling bee queens like myself... hehe :) it's an interesting pic

Err... the thumbnail for this looks way awesome even if the properly sized pic looks rather unfinished.
I decided to comment because your description has provoked the poet in me to create something, so here it is, for you since you inspired it. ^^

Reaching, stretching, screaming,
"I want, I want!
So high the sky I cannot reach."
Reaching, stretching,
I want, I want

I want to fly. To reach
The starfire so far away,
Where dreams are real,
And real is not.
I want, I want!

I AM!
Reaching stretching,
I can reach them,
Just a little further til
I have, I have.

So cold the sky!
I did not know!
Just a little farther
I can feel the warmth.
I must, I must.

Oh, no! Too far!
I've flown too far!
I cant turn back
It's pulling me in!
It burns, it burns!

Drifting down,
Far far down.
Through the cold,
onto the rock,
where it began.

I lie asleep,
Blind and deaf.
I want, I want...

Oh, to see again!
A wonderful thing!
But so cold down here,
and plain, and dull.
I see the gitter,
Starfire burning bright!
Oh, the sky so high I cannot reach.
Reaching, stretching, screaming,
"I want, I want!"
So it begins again.

>>;; longer than I thought it was gonna be. ^^ Oh well, I hope it doesnt offend you or anything.

davincipoppalag (Mar 9, 2004)
theres a smudge tool in Lascaux... use the blend brush set with low opacity and the blur theres a few things you can do... I think this is pretty good..its different to see a figure upside down..for one thing..but if he is upside down ..shouldnt his hair be hanging down...keep at it
Brea83 (Mar 9, 2004)
oh... I knew I had to be missing something, it was just too weird to think there just wasnt a way to smudge...
And as for the hair. He's not hanging, he's falling (hence the title), when you're moving swiftly in any direction your hair is usually blown in the opposite direction. So, his hair wouldn't be hanging down unless he stopped moving, right?

Nice. I like the monochrome-ness, and the tree, the tree is spiffin.
Oh and the hills in the distance, and the grass stuff... er..
Scratch that, the whole thing is spiffy ^^.

hum nope, I guess I don't know how to use the layers...I used mask, isn't it the same ?
But I'll try to use them next time, thanks for the tip ^^
lilypad (Mar 14, 2004)
oh, you don't know how to use the layers? hm...well, it's hard to explain. in oekakie, click on the little bar that says 'layer 0'. a box with layers 0, 1, and 2 should show up. just simply use those to change between layers. and in lascoux, just click 'add layer' to get another layer. the box is already there in lascoux.
Fluffysheep (Mar 14, 2004)
Oh ! Thank you ! That will surely help me a lot ! ^_-

Oh my god...
*cries*
I live in the San Fran. bay area CA, right by the delta actually, so i'm used to seeing modern boats whenever i go downtown, but I dont much like them, modern boats that is.
But ships, real ships, the old ones, like what you drew, they bring tears to my eyes. When I was in fifth grade we had an over night field trip to a docked schooner called the CA Thayer, we got to pretend that we were back in the 1600's working on a ship(but without all the bad parts). It was amasing, and I was only on the Galley crew. ^^ I've always wanted to do something like that again, but I settle with just being able to go down to the delta for a day every couple of weeks.

But now I'm moving to the Dallas Texas region, and I'm going to be completely land locked. I get really sad when i think about it too much..

Oh, geez, I'm sorry, I totally rambled on there. It is a WONDERFUL piece.
I love it. Mind if I set it as part of a computer desktop image?

Urm... I'm new here, but not entirely new to drawing on the comp... I dont think my work is good enough to qualify for the intermediate board, but I'm not entirely certain that it'll fit in here either...
I'm just kind of insecure I suppose.

Anywho, the lyrics on the image are from Iris, by the Goo Goo Dolls.
Also where I got the title from, how original eh? ^^;
Comments are welcome.
