My Great Grandfather Hanson immigrated from Norway. The woman in the picture and her story are fictitious but there really were Vikings and belief in the mythological Gods Odin, Thor, and Frey. I imagine that I could be a descendent from a viking village where the people beleive in the Gods of mythology. My great, great, great, great Grandmother would have been a woman of strong earth magic, being earth born, but legend is that Odin, the God of warriors, battle, wisdom, and poetry was her father. Being poetic herself, she loved to walk through the hillside and listen to the songs of nature and creation. She struggled with her heart often. She loved her people but longed for a more peaceful existence.

What a neat little story. :)... and I like your picture very much - the way you did the contrast and the shadows make it look 3 dimensional.

I am half Danish(Denmark/Danmark) and any snappy remarks about it will be terminated by the munchy of doom! munchy! ( ^?^): yesss massssssssteeeeeeer? da' has a wide imangination, and thinks we were the long lost decendants of the Danish crown years ago, since our names, Steffen and Steffeny, mean 'Crown'. we pretend we believe him, and he takes pride in that. da' also believes he's god. . . in his dreams. ( ;;=_=) and yeah, this is my version of the medievil king of denmark, and or my dad.

"They do relate to the VIKINGS. Their Founding Fathers were Vikings--""You mean they were part IRISH!?" "No, they actually went and kicked the IRISH DUDE's ASSES!! >D" "*sigh*" that was the conversation i had with my dad about the 'being upset' thing. he said the Danes were no one to mess with... cha, right.

i come from a hybrid family, im part portugeese, part english and part indian. However for this part of the competition i have chosen to research and draw my indian side.My Mum's Great great great great .......grandma was a housewife, as in those times, ladies werent a part of the society unlike men. Bein a housewife included going to the village well and carrying pots and pots of water for cooking and bathing. coming from the south of india from a state called Madras. The caste system reinged in those days and they were part of the lower caste (which im proud of because if we didnt exist with our farms the upper caste wouldnt have food to survive on!!) . where the men were farmers and the wives helped them and also did the housework. the time i took to do this is sorta alot for such a poor quality of work, but i was experimenting and trying different stuff and then kept undoin everything!! UH.....

Countess Elizabeth Bathory a distant relation of mine from Transylvania as I understand it a distant cousin of hers or something like that was a close personal friend of Vlad Tepes (the real Dracula) also from what I can tell Tepes young wife was related to her cousin Vlad, being of beter social station than Elizabeth's cousin, took the girl in after her parents died and maried her when she was 19 or something. Elizabeth could be said to be something of a vampire herself she beleived that bathing in the blood of young women would ensure her youth for eternity there are even rumors of her drinking blood. she was eventually charged with murder and said to be insane they walled her up and she died alone ...My family history is allover the place nobility usualy maried into nobility from other places to improve relations so chances are that if you are related to even one you are most likely related to all the rest of them. I did some research and found I have some pretty scary relations and my mom thought this was a picture of me O.o . I used a bad faded out black and white picture reference of an old painting and did the best I could with what I had the face is hers but the rest is mostly out of my head
Shigatsu_Sensei (Aug 24, 2006)
Yeah! They're related! Ain't it WEIRD and FREAKY!!!!!!!!!! MUWAHAHAHAH.....Nice by the way! ^_^

I find the stories of Vlad The Impaler, and Elizabet Bathory Fascinating, and at the same time, frightening. Sometimes when I am walking around on a dark night, Just the word Vlad, sends shivers.Wow you are related to Elizabeth Bathory? Based on her beauty, that is Awesome! Also, nice drawings. You should draw more often. Sorry I have not commented on your latest drawings, but anime is getting old for me. I want to draw american cartoons. Edit* I have a Vlad the Impaler drawing in the works..... Never got back at it.
The_Chosen (Apr 23, 2012)
Thanks Wraith Actually I'm glad to get any comments lately it seems no one is interested in giving them. what I hate is when someone spent like 30 min on a pic & one that took 4+ hours & the 30 min gets like 10 comments & the other one that actually took time & effort no one even comments on. Kind of why I stopped coming here for a while it was aggravating. Even a nice color or a well done or something would be better than no comments at all especially when it is obvious at least SOME effort was given. >_> but that's just me.
Wraith (edited Apr 24, 2012)
Yeah I agree that having no comments kind of sucks... But I do think that artists should just focus on what they love to do, and forget everyone else. I love to draw, just not right now. ( besides I think my pen broke a little because the tip is too loose ) And I try to comment as much as possible. But If I do not comment, it's because maybe I do not like it, or I forgot to comment. Either way, it does not necessarily mean the drawing is bad. I don't like Zep's drawings, but here he is worshiped. Of course he is a better artist than me, but I just don't like his style no matter how hard I try to. Look at Axil62. He draws for 10 min, and I think most of his drawings are kick-ass. But I really like his styles. |

Cause our lipsCan touch And our cheeks Can brush. Our lips Can touch Here. You are the one, the one that lies close to me. Whispers "Hello, I miss you quite terribly." I fell in love, in love with you suddenly. Now there's no place else I could be, but here in your arms. Edit: Can a mod please move this to intermediate or beginners? It was originally supposed to be on the contest board. Done.
davincipoppalag (Aug 21, 2006)
LOL. this transformed! lol I like the final pic
eevildeeva (Aug 21, 2006)
The first pic was looking really good, but the second one holds more interest as far as subject matter. I *really* like the greyscale 'isotope' effect on this one.
Qwerty_Wittle_Fawah (Aug 24, 2006)
wow only two comments...I bet this is one of those pieces where people say ooh I like it...I will comment later...which is exactly what I am doing right now because I keep passing it as I scroll and putting off commenting so now I spend 20 mintues writing a comment. I love what you did in the end :) |

Contest Week 26: Medieval Ancestors Your goal this week is to illustrate what you think your medieval ancestor would look like. I don't expect you to trace your ancestry to medieval times, you can use your earliest known ancestor's country of origin. Some of you are a mix of backgrounds and may not know your families lineage, in that case, you can pick the country of origin that you think best represents you. The ancestor you pick could be anyone; a warrior, a princess, a blacksmith, a...

Yahh.. only 2 drawings here, and they're nothing too special, and now I'm entering a contest..Well I thought "why not?", since my style is quite anime-inspired anyway.
