In recognition and memory of "Eight Belles", Kentucky Derby - 2008
Your "Run for the Roses" was magnificent....

From sire to sire, it's born in the blood
The fire of a mare and the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training ... and it's something unknown
That drives you and carries you home.
And it's run for the roses as fast as you can
Your fate is delivered and your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime, in a lifetime of chance ...
And it's high time you joined in the dance

Oh wow Aak, very beautiful, you took my breath away.

it was a nasty spill that horse took....but from what i heard, she was not giving the opportunity to suffer for very long...thankfully, and thank god those animals are shown more respect and commpassion than say rodeo animals...

beautiful tribute

First let me say thanks for the nice comments... I appreciate all of your sentiments as well. I started this a while back and really had no intention to finish it until I saw that beautiful horse go down on the track. My heart went out to the owners and of course for that gorgeous filly. I believe the Derby is such a part of our wonderful traditions in this country... the rose garland in the winners circle. Eight Belles was one of only four filly's to compete for the roses in quite a few years and she had a shot at winning. So this one rose became my expression of gratitude for this tradition and a tribute to the amazing heart that is bred into our thoroughbreds. Born to run ... for the roses.

Beautiful rose-I love when people aren't afraid to use multiple colors in shading, it always makes the picture look better and slightly exciting.
