What a wonderful (and quite brave) choice for a study. This would be a challenge for anyone... great start on it... bet you'll do it justice. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
davincipoppalag (Nov 28, 2006)
This is great ,so far. I was gonna try something..but I'm obviously out of the league competing...no chance

I really admire your talent Moosh! You’ve captured the light, shadows, and umber beautifully. I don’t know how you can squeeze all of that detail into a head the size of a dime either, I’m struggling w/that part the most. :P Anyways, keep up the great work!
Miss_DJ (Dec 2, 2006)
amazing work.
frootcake (Dec 3, 2006)
really fascinating watching your animation too, how different your style is to MrPaul's. interesting use of constuction lines, it's totally looking like the ref
Roytje (Dec 4, 2006)

solve (Dec 9, 2006)
Geez, you get many many kudos for doing this and making it turn out so well. Excellent work.
Sweetcell (Dec 9, 2006)
Commendations Moosh, he's beautiful, yours has a mischievious grin. Love it.
frootcake (Dec 10, 2006)
not one criticism, and rightly so, you will probably win. However, the thing i love about caravaggios work is the uber strong light contrasts and warm palate he uses - your picture is just a touch paler than the ref so it loses some of the contrast. The cloth of all things is my favourite part
Alter.Native (edited Dec 10, 2006)
I agree with what frootcake just said, and it's good that he also brought it up. The body and face, in your version, have the qualities of a marble statue, compared to that great painted 'fleshiness' of Caravaggio's. Nevertheless your details are super great and I love those wings.

Congratulations Moosh! "Amor Victorious Caravaggio" is awarded first place for Contest Week 38: Master Study - 2 week contest. This is one of the best contest entries I've seen since the contest board was created. All things considered, this is an accurate digital reproduction of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio's "Amor Vincit Omnia". Moosh's attention to color, proportions and style are a testament to her ability as an artist. Beautiful work Moosh.
Sweetcell (edited Dec 10, 2006)
I KNEW this would win. I think we all knew. CONGRATS MOOSH! Well deserved. YAAAA, I'm the first to give my felicitations.

how... what..... beautifullll
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Dec 16, 2006)
This was my favorite from the very first strokes here... for one thing, I love the subject matter...and it shows that you have little (or no) fear of a complicated subject. I have noticed over the years while reading and studying what the "masters" did to improve, that those of them that incorporated draping fabric into their paintings (which most of them did) took a great amount of time to do studies in drapery cloth... just cloth... probably because it can be difficult to portray, and you have done an excellent job on that part of this, as well as everything else here. I'm happy that you were declared the winner....(I was quite partial to a couple of others... I'm just glad I didn't have to judge this one... you were truly deserving of it.)
Artiste (Jan 7, 2007)
My goodness... I could put those shadowed areas on a plate and eat them for their delicious translucence. Awesome homage to one of the best damned seers of darks.
Sweetcell (Jan 7, 2007)
I knew this would be one of the ones chosen for showcase, it was automatic. Congrats Moosh. Well deserved again.
Wraith (edited May 22, 2009)

Flubbles (Sep 9, 2009)
He's got a weenis, it's the testicles he's lacking.
