Trying an anime draw from a ref I had on my HD. I think anime is cute but have never drawn it before.

You crossed to the dark side!!!! Oooooh Noooooooo heheh... Looks like ya did it with pastels..cool
gerbear (Apr 13, 2006)
That is so funny you would say that particular comment! I just watched a special tonite on the Making of Star Wars *L* To me it looks like Prismacolor markers. I am looking forward to exploring the different techniques. Right now I am still learning the functions (have not done layers or masks yet).

Layers Rock..
DoOp (Apr 13, 2006)
layers are love<3 but that's so cute <3<3<3 anime side= cheap side xDDDD i perfer drawing anime so much more then realsim ^^;; although i do try both, i suck at both! wootxor! x333

awesome orange usage in this drawing :)
xiau (Apr 13, 2006)
Oh, I remember this picture! Both the original and this one are great :)
gerbear (edited Apr 13, 2006)
Thanks all. :) I wanted to try anime. I love the good pieces. The original of this is awesome. But it is her in an egg and about the Phoenix Rising from the ashes. I was going to change it all up to a flower fairy, just using the same pose, but I think I need to do the Rising From the Ashes. Odd, how the subconscious works.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH out of space again!! I wanted to finish this..make it purty! This is just the undersketch. But I don't want to start drawing in Intermediate. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
xiau (Apr 14, 2006)
You can memo a moderator for more space =3

ignore the time pls. got interupted and forgot to send. Those black lines are temporary. This does take forever at least if you are new to the program. Anyone that does photorealism on here deserves an award. Two awards! :)

you did this splendidly! I love the fabric and the overall cover scheme! I do hope we haven't lost you to that dark side though hehe on the other hand, you'd join the few on here that can do anime well! this is definetly intermediate at the least, could even be placed in advanced :) Great job!

Shoebox (Apr 18, 2006)
How gorgeous is this? Amazing! Especially as you're not accustomed to Anime. Though some may argue that that would be helpful. Bu t anyhow, this is fantastic. The designs on her bodice and gloves are so 3D, and her face is very pretty!
gerbear (Apr 18, 2006)
thank you so much everyone! :) It started out as a simple try at anime and I got carried away and had to ask for more space.

So that no one feels badly, you need to know I am an art teacher! So, if you know how to "see" than you can draw or paint anything, even if it is your first time. The rose in my gallery that I am proud of is the first time I ever painted or drew a rose. My advice is to draw lots and try to find all your mistakes. You don't have to fix them, just "see" them. Then the next time you will "see" better.

Also study drawings you admire. I just got here a couple of weeks ago and have spent hours and hours going thru the galleries of those with pics that are Showcased. I have watched animations too. I am not experienced drawing on the computer (in color) so I learned alot about different effects that can be achieved by studying other artwork. This is an awesome site! There are 13 yr olds here so good i wanna cry! I was NOT that good back then! :)
DoOp (Apr 18, 2006)
art teacher Xd godly anime drawing art teacher :]
i see badly therefore i draw badly! :] hehe
gerbear (Apr 18, 2006)
Thanks DoOp and Sweets! I used a ref pic Sweets but I changed some things. If I had a place to upload it, I would show the ref pic, I had it on my HD for a long time now, no clue where I got it. Was Surprised to hear people knew of the original pic. Glad you saw the pattern on the sheet. In the ref that was part of her skirt and the same color. But i was bored with that color and changed it, then it looked dull so i added the pattern. :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Apr 18, 2006)
Wow, you really did put alot of time and effort into this, but it was very well spent. It's not just anime, it's absolutely beautiful. (about the space thing, remember you can keep things hidden, start them on a higher board and move them down before you post them finished)

I have spent my whole life doing one form of art or another, but this computer stuff is a whole different world... I still don't know most of the things I should, I just sort of "muddle" through. :)
lorhen (Apr 18, 2006)
wow, gerbear.....kinda strange to see your stuff in color *S* you always amaze me...this is fantastic!!
gerbear (Apr 18, 2006)
DBa and Lorhen, thanks so much. This was fun and I learned lots!
catfreeek (Apr 25, 2006)
Absolutely gorgeous!
kristine (edited Apr 26, 2006)
Why hasnt this been showcased?
gerbear (edited Apr 30, 2006)
Because I am new? Because the people who choose showcase never looked at it? They chose a different anime draw right after I did this one. So i don't know. Oh well. *LOL*
TammyF (Jun 14, 2006)

Meno (Mar 5, 2008)
Hi Gerry! Took me long enough to check out your gallery here .... trying to navigate my way around here but find it CONFOOSING! Almost took a stab at drawing something but made a mess and then couldn't figure out how to delete so I just backed out of there and that'll probably get me banned or something! Think I'll stick to sketchfu ;)
Sweetcell (Mar 5, 2008)
Sketchfu? *bah* Minimal tools for minimal results.

*BAH-BAH-FUCKIN BAH*
FuzzyWuzzy (Mar 14, 2008)
*waves at Gerbear* tis me FUZZY! I have to show my daughter this one, awesome, she draws these too!
gerbear (Mar 14, 2008)
Hi Meno, keep at it, you will get the hang of it.
Sweetcell, different strokes for different folks, we don't all draw online for the same reasons. I did some very successful professional pieces here yet I prefer Sketchfu. Just comparing oranges and apples Sweets.
thanks Fuzzy, this is my best piece here and it took me forever!!!
QTgillie (May 20, 2008)
Geeez Gerry, I feel so bad I never came to see this. It is awesome. You are an amazing artist.
