See how i did that with the face i pulled it all together made it look alot better once that line is gone.
This is my big project of the year to set aside al the other bullshit i've done.
I'm open to any advice you'all got to help me make this piece work.
The only things I see proportionally that I would change are that her right eye seems to be a little high so far, I would move that down just a bit, and add more depth to her eye sockets by shading in the eyelid area and between the eyes and nose. The skin tones are beautiful and I think if you work at it a little more it'll be great.
I'e been sitting here listening to the Linking park CD Metreoa on song Faint. The whole time staring at this picture and DBA i was thinking the same thing. a bit lower. but the right lense is perfect, just the eye.
yes, the sunglasses are fine, it's the eye that needs to move. Faces are so difficult, and when you add angles or turn them different directions it makes the features even more difficult to depict, but you're almost there.
I know it's a pain in the ass, but yes, if you want it to be right, you do. It's still not quite low enough, I don't think. While you're working on it, stop and analyze it then, don't wait until you submit. Each time you make yourself work at it like this, you'll get better, and eventually the initial placement of the features won't be so difficult at all. The practice is really worth the end result.
I think what may be throwing off a good number of these proportional problems you're having is the fact that the face (the whole), isn't at the angle the ref's at. If you would compare the negative space triangle going into 'her' right cheek and chin, the one in the ref seems to go in even further. As for things to look into, seems like you should move the right eye in closer to her nose, thicken up her bottom lip near the left as you'll see in the ref, lower the angle of the upper lip, and fix the shape of her nose (seems to be one of the biggest problems right now is that nose). What I mean is, the end on her actual nose seems to come up a little bit, but yours comes downwards. See where the corner of her glasses hits her nose on the left? In the ref, you'll see that the line of her nose is almost just a straight diagonal line (approx. 45 degrees?). Of course these tips may not help you get these things look dead on if you follow them, since they are just speculation, but I'm sure most will help you out if you decide to fix them up. Good luck, hope this helps some...
I haven't seen the reference pic, but JK, I would also follow Gig's direction, because he has, and he can definitely paint a face accurately.
(although I think all of that at once might be a little bit overwhelming, try to do a little at a time)
I know what your talking about. I have the refrence open and the picture open next to each other and i'm staring and compairing i see all that and the chin is a bit off as well. did i mention this is my first ettempt at realism ever? ... all that does help alot me keep myself sure of where i'm going with this
uh duhhh, yeah, I see it now. I did quickly scan the text section of this earlier looking for a link... guess it was the blue on blue that threw me.
And a very good attempt it is, no one expects you to be perfect at it... (well, not yet anyway :)... just work at this till you are satisfied with it, and each time it will be easier and the results will be better.
I'm only trying to help you, man. Whether it's your first, or the millionth time, I assume most if not all of us share the goal in mastering it or anything else we attempt. Therefore, I'm telling you what you could be looking into for the future, but since what I pointed out here was more directed at this specific picture, the only other general advice I can give you is: Always compare negative/positive shapes (yes both against each other) for accurate shapes. Also compare detail placements in relation to surrounding details (the more, the better). Realism pretty much boils down to the art of accurate placement of shapes and colors.
Thanks DBA and gig. Oh yea and the refrence is also my Desktop background. I've like been her fan since she appeared on star search. almost the same age.
Ty, I'm now at a point, Where i don't know what to do should i wrap this picture up and complete it, or is there more work to do. I mean, well its not perfect but, it kind of looks all right like that. what you all think?
Everything looks great to me, and I just now looked at the reference picture... you have the eyes almost exactly as they are in that photo.... weird, her right eye appears too high in the photo, as well, so I guess you could just leave it like that. I think some highlights in the hair would be nice, though, if that doesn't scare you too much.
looks almost exactly like the ref proportio-wise. her jawline in the ref though seems more angular compared to the one you drew which curves more. This is real awesome though.

I looked at the reference, you have made a realy good portrait... it's almost identical! The eyes are very well done.
