i've redone nearly the entire image in the past two days, it's been a real pain, but i'm happy with the marble effect.

davincipoppalag (Jan 4, 2006)

Very nice! I think the shading on the statue is fantastic. Keep going! This is one that I'd really like to see finished :-)

Oh wow. Very well done. Impressive. Gosh. Golly.
Sweetcell (edited May 28, 2006)
I've been following this since you first started and I said I wouldn't comment until you were done, now your done and may I say, WOW! Mickey would be proud. You did his statue justice.

Btw I love all the stages, especially the Santa one. Heehee.
Pseudonymous (May 28, 2006)
Mickey? Ohhh, Mickey. Haha!
Miss_DJ (May 28, 2006)
wow....he looks like he's a marble-animated type of man that will move any second and completely freak out the onlooking crowd. Amazing. The background and people give it such a perfect feel for an 'institute' setting...really well done!
frootcake (May 29, 2006)
thanks you three, especially sweetcell, i didn't think ppl read my comments.
miss dj - i skip between thinking i should clean up the 4ground and background but then i think it adds to the painting and the statuesque of the statue.

man i going to florence on thursday, i'm gonna see this bad boy, so excited :) also may i just say that i think 'michael'-angelo is closer to the pronunciation of his name than 'mik'elanglo.
Rosemary (May 29, 2006)
wow...just..wow!! wonderful!
Zack (May 29, 2006)
That's some impressive realism. Gotta love the classics.

Then would that be Micheay? :)

Florence? So jealous. Make sure to check out the schools down there. I understand they still teach the old masters techniques. Did you know that when Micheay and Leonard did their wall pieces they sketched out the design on a huge piece of paper, poked small holes in them and used it as a stencil. They put ground chalk in a cloth and after placing the paper on the wall (some technique using gesso and paint, I'm not sure of the exact setup) they pounded the cloth full of chalk on the paper which gave them the guidelines to paint. Now-a-days people can get a projector but these techniques still work. Just some random facts.

Enjoy Florence you lucky you. Takes shit loads of pictures.
fleeting_memory (May 29, 2006)
you've done wonderfully. Have fun in Florence-he's supposed to be absolutely amazing in person.
frootcake (May 29, 2006)
heh indeed, standing 4metres tall is amazing by any standard. sweet - i didn't know they used that exact technique but i find the tempras (man im not sure thats the right word) they obviously didn't work from life. im not sure he used that technique since he only really painted the sistine.
in the national gallery in london, there is a leonardo cartoon (full size sketch) and next to it the completed picture. it was probably my favourite thing there. Michelangelo was v secretive about his work.
i guess i'll try and post my pics on the net, but i won't be taking ones you can't already get hold of somehow.

any requests on other master works (anything other than the ghent alterpiece - thats too cool for school) ;)
Deino (May 31, 2006)
Very nicely done! I love how it looks 3D like.
Knockoff (Jun 9, 2006)

I love the way this has a great feeling of real "space"... from the visitor's heads to the ceiling... makes me dizzy almost.
catfreeek (Jun 30, 2006)
Simply amazing, feel like I'm amongst the crowd of viewers.
Violette (Jul 8, 2006)
