marcello (edited May 17, 2002)
This is just a simple poll, as I'm curious what people would most like to see next on the site:

1) Search feature - search users, entries, and comments
2) Member-to-Member messaging - the ability to send private messages to other members on 2draw
3) asciiBBS - a simple ascii art drawing feature
4) New skins - currently there are only 2, would you like to see more?
5) e-cards - create your own e-cards to send to your friends using paintbbs and oekakibbs
6) Better and more documentation - tutorials and help pages with detailed information on how to use the applets
7) bbs3D - a new applet written by myself which allows you to create 3-D models
8) palettes - new paletting features saving/loading/presets
9) buddy icons - upload/draw your own buddy icon

edit: I've finished the search system, and I've added two new themes

edit 2: added 8 and 9 to the list

edit 3: asciibbs is finished, but not yet available

edit 4: asciibbs is done, memo system is up!

To vote simply pick the order you'd like to see these features. If you aren't interested in one of the items, say so.

Any other features not mentioned that you'd like to see on the site, feel free to post!

Thanks for your time!

I'm assuming that asciibbs is an old system you dont use anymore?

lycene (edited Oct 18, 2005)
6, 5. I think the others might be interesting, but I have no pressing need for any of them. Tutorials, though, would be amazing, I always love to see how others work. Five would be cool, just because.

Edit: Just noticed, I don't see the added themes--Are they actually there, or were you just pulling our legs, Marcello?

xiau (edited Oct 18, 2005)
6, 5, and 7. Tutorials would be useful... And e-cards would be nice...
I just think the whole 3-D thing would be fun.

Noremac (edited Oct 18, 2005)
all of em, especially the 3d bbs. also i would motion for animating programs, i like the environment here, and the ability to work here is 2nd to none for me. and i might actually get some animation done, plus flash is intimidating. just a thought.
also a paintchat isnt necesarry but it would be nice to have a place we could just doodle for fun, and not have the pressure of making our drawings perfect.
and i think if bandwidth could become a problem you should allow the animation program to higher level users, and the such. so the newcomers that arent exactly fit for the field wont start submitting long bandwidth devouring animations.

Geez guys, this thread is from 2002, before v2 even came out. =P
Think before you post. But I'll try to respond.
Axil: Asciibbs is what we have now on the Ascii board, basically.
lycene: Tutorials are already here, ever check the Wiki? Problem is, no one makes any. I sure as hell am not going to. The themes are from v1, which had a different skin system. But don't worry, the themes from v1 sucked.
noremac: do you have any idea how difficult it would be to write an animation program? there is a reason the existing ones cost hundreds of dollars.

bbs3d is a defunct project and probably won't come for some time. Too complicated, not enough interest, and not enough time/money for it to be realistic. (Granted, it'd be cool!)

As for doodling for fun, there is no obligation to submit drawings. You can always doodle without submitting. I don't understand what's so hard to understand about that.
  icon
Noremac (Oct 19, 2005)
well its not hard to understand, but i've done sketches on 2draw tons of times, i dont submit them but once in a while i would draw something i liked, and would like to share it, but the regulations on the boards would prevent me from doing that. i mean, i really dont mind working on some pictures for 3+ hours at a time, but sometimes a 15 minute sketch can look superb to me, and i would want to share it. it appears method3 is planning on running one, so i guess its kinda done anyways. as for the animation program. nope, i didnt think that it would be uber hard, but tab-lite (a basic animation program) only cost like 50$ from what i remember. i unno, if you are up for a challenge i would say do an animation program. i'm sure the broad range of cartoon drawers would praise you for it.

FLYING_SQUIRREL (edited Oct 19, 2005)
E-cards would kick ass!
  icon
marcello (Oct 19, 2005)
Unfortunately, praise rarely pays bills. =P
I have considered something along the lines of easytoon, though, ie, a very simple bitmap-frame-based animation utility for doing simple stuff in, but 2draw isn't really setup for that kind of shit at the moment.
  icon
Noremac (Oct 19, 2005)
ah, hmm well just keep it in mind then?

JK-Arts (edited Oct 19, 2005)
I know this is an old thread but whats wrong with some new questions and answers?

#5 E-cards would be great.
#7 BBs3d is something i'd like to see it be great for all them gamers and rom creators. Pretty much anybody interested in computer graphix 3d animations ect. would really find interest in creating there own rendered charactor.

Just a thought : what if there was a butten in config or something called Help mode. when set to on little ballons would pop up on mouse-over. .in these ballons your could have basic tips and hints that new users can use to get a better understanding of the site and aplets. also help pages that they could always refer' to. ( i know the script would be fairly hard but you'd only have to but the main part in the main page and a tagged script in the body of each page) It be alot of work but its just an idea. (probally not a good idea for this site)
Of course when Help mode is set off the site would be as it normally is. (Help mode could be like a informative welcome mat to
newcomers.)
Another idea of mine is a picture limit for new comers. since most of the newcomers/newbs are strangers to this site when they come and we know nothing about their art. Maybe there could be a limit to the newcomer statis (Exsample: Limited 2 pictures every 6 hours or something)
I think this would help cut back on spam and this limit will be remove when the users statis changes to dabbler and they are no longer a newcomer.

These are my ideas and opinions they don't have to be taking in anyway.

7,8. Also, more skins would be cool.
  icon
Kenshin (Oct 19, 2005)
4, 5
I'd be cool if you could pick the colors for your skin.
  icon
Nightmare (Oct 19, 2005)
4, 6, 7

The 3D thing sounds awesome, even if we will never be able to see it.

Shanghai (Oct 20, 2005)
what skin do people use most? I always have the sandstone active.
  icon
Kenshin (Oct 20, 2005)
Eww. Sandstone is ugly and blinding XD
But the regular one is too boring and plain...
  icon
Nightmare (Oct 20, 2005)
I use sandstone, the blue is too...egh.

I would like to see a herbal green theme, and a dark charcol theme. That would balance out nicely for the two we already have.
  icon
darkshadow (edited Oct 20, 2005)
can there be a setting that if you post a picture unfinnished an a board you can still move it to a lower board with out asking a mod to do it
  icon
Maiko (Oct 20, 2005)
I use sandstone +_+ It's a lot less blinding than the Blue >_>;
but I think we should have a charcoal theme >_>
  icon
Deformed (Oct 20, 2005)
I want the Pokemon one back.....
  icon
SneakyWalter (Oct 20, 2005)
I'm curious to see what the pokemon looked like (besides funny/dumb?). I joined after it happened and read the April Fools thread.

A charcoal theme might be cool.
  icon
Kenshin (Oct 21, 2005)
Dude yes. We should have the pokemon theme. I would so use it XD
  icon
Nightmare (Oct 21, 2005)
The Pokemon theme blinded half the users due to the neon pink.
  icon
xiau (Oct 21, 2005)
I know. I couldn't see for days.
Although, it would be kind of funny for one of my older siblings to walk in and me be on the "Poke'mon Yu-Gi-Oh" fanclub site.
Yeah, I would probably use it for fun sometimes, but not constantly. I might get vision damage if I do that.
  icon
Maiko (Oct 21, 2005)
haha I was browsing 2draw during class XD and the people next to me were like "WTF is wrong with you"
