LovelyLori (Mar 25, 2004)
this is wonderful, Dave.... such detail, love the land below and all the rest!
sal (Mar 25, 2004)
great draw dave... looks mighty fine...
Deformed (Mar 25, 2004)
This is by far my fav pic of yours yet davinci!!!! I love it!!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 26, 2004)
This is also my favorite of yours so far. Not too sharp. A nice, soft war painting. (lol) Love the way you have the smoke billowing. :)
davincipoppalag (Mar 26, 2004)
hmmm.. looks pretty sharp when I look from home... soft eh?
marcello (Mar 26, 2004)
wow, this is pretty awesome. you should do a series like this. :-)
only suggestion would be to add some brighter sunlight, on the planes, and perhaps on the ground itself between cloud shadows... just a touch of contrast should make a big difference, whether it's positive or not, you'll have to experiment to find out :)
davincipoppalag (Mar 26, 2004)
well.. I seem to have some room left.. maybe I will play with that.. thanks!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 26, 2004)
LOL! I knew that would getcha! It does need a little more defining, which is what Marcello's suggestion would do to it, if you feel like playing with it. But I still like it either way. Even after you define it, it'll be kind of soft...(paintings can be soft and defined at the same time) I think it's the colors and the smoke. :D
Thear (Mar 26, 2004)
yeah! i like it! what is that closer plain called?
DinoFlorist (Mar 26, 2004)
yeah I've learned that contrast adds a lot. Chiaroscuros are very powerful. But still, I don't do it either, and I really really really like this picture. Like, really. So now, davincipoppalag, give us your secrets! :)

well... I did some tweakin.. did i screw it up?
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Mar 26, 2004)
You didn't screw it up, the planes are better, but I don't think making the grass brighter was a good idea. Do you have room (energy) lol to put the grass back darker? I think it makes the grass jump out atcha too much, kind of takes away the depth of the picture.
marcello (Mar 26, 2004)
the grass looks fine to me... I can't really think of any specific improvements (being exhausted doesn't help), looks good.
DinoFlorist (Mar 26, 2004)
I think the brighter grass competes for foreground space.
staci (Mar 26, 2004)
i agree that if just the bright grass was subtracted then it would be betta. but still a good jobber.

Thanks for all the nice words...and the help! I believe its done?<he says with trepidation.... I made the grass darker again..(with some treeline kinda thingies enhanced a bit... Thear that closer plane is the North American P38 Lightning... one of my favorites..
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 26, 2004)
There, that's the stuff! The right stuff! It's great now. The planes are more defined and stay in the foreground, and the landscape recedes as it should. You're pretty "sharp" for an old feller. lol
davincipoppalag (Mar 26, 2004)
lol..must be that point on my head lol
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Mar 26, 2004)
*Does huge catcall whistle* Hey, Showcase! (lol)

Very nice airplanes, excellent combat! One got hit! Haha, it reminds me of video games with airplane combats as well. Beautiful and detailed drawing! >:D

Pandora (Apr 2, 2004)
Great job on motion. The plane texture seems so real, like metal.
Wraith (Apr 6, 2004)
Pretty cool! :D
laurael (Apr 6, 2004)
Glad to see that this one made this one. I, uh, saved it for a background...that okay with you?
davincipoppalag (Apr 6, 2004)
Sure! I'm flattered you would want to!
emmamommalag (Apr 14, 2004)
This is awesome, poppasweetie. Really get the feeling we're up there in the air.. the ground is far below. The planes are great and I like the smoke. I'm gonna replace the P51 with this one now.
Laurael... he was only kidding about the porn.
foxman8245 (May 7, 2004)
this is wayyyy cool! Being an Air Force Vet..... I enjoy aircraft drawings!! Good Job Davinci!!!
Noremac (May 10, 2004)
would death from the sun make more sense it if was like a japanese plane, because you know the "rising sun" stuff -sits down and twiddles fingers-
davincipoppalag (May 11, 2004)
Noremac.. aviation combat tactics always taught pilots to try to attack from out of the sun where the other pilot couldnt see you..hence the title...
Knight608 (Oct 21, 2004)
Your World War2 plane shooting down a german plane is asome! its cool!

adxaidl3692 (Dec 15, 2013)
