I'm trying to do an advanced draw.. I think I'm trying too hard though. It's taking me forever and I'm not even done yet.. it needs more work on the wall, steps and the lower foot, I'll try to finish soon though.
I've stared at it so long I don't even know if it's any good or not and I think I made her look older than the reference :|
Bubblicious (Jul 9, 2009)
She looks beautiful bette!! I think it's time well spent :D Really, great work so far. It's going to be amazing when finished.
vlad.the.hamster (Jul 9, 2009)
Beautiful work. :) The colors are beautiful. It has such a soft feel.
Miss_DJ (Jul 9, 2009)
lovely textures! this is already wonderful and will be spectacular, I just know it!
riccir (Jul 9, 2009)
this is so so beautiful and delicate..i love it
QTgillie (edited Jul 10, 2009)
Bette, your pictures just keep getting better and better. This is just stunning. The hands and feet are impeccable. I think her hair is also outstanding. I love the tiny sheen on the top. I do not think she looks too old. Her face is timeless. Yes, I can see the bg needs a little touching up, but would be fine with just some TLC. Her clothing is also done very nicely. Bravo on this one Bette, as if any of your draws aren't five star knock outs.
firecracker (Jul 9, 2009)
"Wow"! Another masterpiece "bette".......you are so talented.....your artwork amazes me. This pic is beautiful. :)
davincipoppalag (Jul 10, 2009)
It's really beautiful work Bette
Black_Bird (Jul 10, 2009)
Ack! So brilliant already!
Aakyra (Jul 10, 2009)
Very beautiful! Her expression is priceless, I wouldn't worry so about the foot Bette, the focal point is all about the upper body, and your rendering has captured the viewer's attention perfectly! Excellent work!

enjoydotcom (Sep 23, 2009)
You really took your time to finish this, I love it! It is impossible to pinpoint what is best about it, I must say I really like the stone background and her hair. As well as her face...

Miss_DJ (Sep 23, 2009)
I think I love this. I'd hang it in my home for sure.
Suntan (Sep 23, 2009)
This is very beautiful, bette. wow. :)
LifeGotColour (Sep 24, 2009)
wonderful work...i like the theme and all about it. very beautiful!
marcello (Sep 24, 2009)
geez. you clearly used a reference here.
bette_davis_eyes (edited Sep 24, 2009)
yes, I did clearly use a reference marcello. I put the artist's name William-Adolphe Bouguereau in the title and I also mentioned in V12 that I thought I made her face older than the ref .. I didn't post the link to the ref but I thought it was easy enough to find it if anyone cared to google the artist's name and the title.
I really wasn't trying to make it seem that this picture was my own idea at all and I'm sorry if it ever appeared that way.

and thank you everyone for all the nice comments.
Axil62 (Sep 24, 2009)
It never appeared that way, Flubbs.
bette_davis_eyes (Sep 24, 2009)
sorry axil but now I'm confused .. flubbs?
Flubbles (Sep 24, 2009)
Marcellos got a thing about not using references. The thing is people who say they dont use references are bullshitters because they use references for all types of things, they just scramble all there references together to make there own image.
bette_davis_eyes (Sep 24, 2009)
are you saying that he doesn't like us using references at all? or he just wants us to always post the ref link? did you guys use a ref on this drawing? http://2draw.net/view/110928/ if so, I don't see one posted .. so why do I get called out on a drawing that I did mention that I used a ref on ?
Axil62 (Sep 24, 2009)
HA! I don't know why I said Flubbs, Sorry about that. :)
I think we've ha this discussion before. Don't think twice about it. You were clear that it was from a ref.
I use refs all the time. I stay away from copying a painting, but that's just me. I like finding a photo or taking one myself. Sometimes not, but whatever. It's not like you were trying to take credit for the original.
bette_davis_eyes (Sep 24, 2009)
thanks axil .. I really was starting to think maybe I didn't make it clear enough that I used one.
enjoydotcom (Sep 24, 2009)
It was clear enough you used one. Personally I don't understand the aversion against using a reference, specifically if you are trying to improve yourself. Give or take a troll or two, but isn't that what we all want here?
marcello (Sep 24, 2009)
I can't even be ironic on my own site. ;__;
enjoydotcom (Sep 24, 2009)
Wasn't it more sarcastic?
marcello (Sep 24, 2009)
of course not. sarcasm implies disdain
enjoydotcom (Sep 24, 2009)
Aha, I think that is why they made you cry. Maybe they thought your remark was sarcastic, when you actually were ironic.
Flubbles (Sep 24, 2009)
I think it was pretty clear you used a ref, that paintings quite well known.Marcello was just kidding around. He has a point though,he can do or say whatever he likes on his own site.
enjoydotcom (Sep 24, 2009)
Of course he does :D. But I can understand the confusion.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Well....now I'm confused.....what's the difference between sarcastic and ironic????
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
When someone puts quotation marks around a word, it implies sarcasm.
The fact that you of all people are asking about it is ironic.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
"Lol" axil.....thanks for the explanation......but did you notice that there are no quotation marks in my above comment.....:P
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
Actually, I did and I debated for a second whether or not I should... but come on, this was perfect. And hey, I really do appreciate the effort. Thank you.
Miss_DJ (Sep 25, 2009)
Now we need to focus on excessive use of dots and question marks and we'll be ok to go.
lol ;o)
dotdalidot (Sep 25, 2009)
Why do you always put quotation marks, in places not really necessary, fire? o.o I'm honestly asking and stuff. Is English your second language?
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Now I have to stop using dots and question marks too???? "lol"!! Where did all of you people go to school?? Nooo Dot.....english is my first language......I don't have a second language...."lol"! Seriously.....when I put quotation marks around a certain word.....I'm just trying to put some "empathis" on that word.....I don't know if I spelled that word right or not......I try to emphasize a word....to make it stand out. I've seen a lot of words that had quotation marks around them....and it wasn't implying sarcasm. I don't understand how quotation marks can imply sarcasm. Anyways......now I'm more confused than ever...."lolzzz"...:P
Alter.Native (Sep 25, 2009)
This is very well drawn.

Axil62 (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Maybe sarcasm isn't the best description. It's more like whatever word you're putting them around (unless you're actually quoting someone) gives the reader the impression that the word with the quotation marks around it has an implied alternative meaning. Lets say that everyone knows that when I say "Let's step into my office." It really means "Let's step into the bathroom." Because I like to call it my office and people know that. Then when someone asks where I am and I happen to be in the bathroom, they might say "Oh, he's in his "office." using air quotes when they say the word office. See we all know it's the bathroom but I like to call it an office.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Well......your explanation here doesn't really clarify anything. You see.....most people (including me)....do not know that you refer to your bathroom as being your office......nobody really knows that, except you.....haha. Anyways...I don't think we should be cluttering up "bette davis eyes" space here, with this meaningless discussion...."lol"! I really do think this draw is a "showcase" draw....very beautiful pic. :)
enjoydotcom (Sep 25, 2009)
Sorry to break a bubble, but I do understand the explanation.

Hmm, how to make it understand. Oh wait I have it. When I read your sentence : I really do think this draw is a "showcase" draw. I could think that you really don't think it is a showcase drawing. But to opposite, that it belongs in a waste paper basket.

The other use of quotation marks is to quote (repeat) what somebody else said, like in a storybook:
Little Tommy said: "Oh mommy, let's go to the fairground!".
Quote-quotation mark, get it? ;)
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
Fire: Do you see where it says "Lets say that everyone knows that when I say "Let's step into my office." It really means "Let's step into the bathroom."? That the same as saying let's pretend, for this example, that everyone knows that when I say "Let's step into my office." It really means "Let's step into the bathroom. So in the example, everyone does know.
Miss_DJ (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Axil, I thought that was a great explanation. Notice, I didn't say it was a "great" explanation, which would have meant it wasn't a great explanation at all.
Flubbles (Sep 25, 2009)
If she doesn't get it now she never will.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Well.....when I put quotation marks around the word showcase.....I was merely trying to emphasize that word.....to make it stand out....because I really do believe that this is a showcase draw. Axil......you just confuse the issue even more.....you have a way of talking around everything.....making it even more difficult to try and figure out what you're saying. Anyways.....I'm trying to limit my use of quotation marks.....not because of anything you might say axil.....I'm only doing it because of what the "boss" said......not because of what you say axil....hahahaaa! MissDj.....the boss didn't say I overused question marks or dots.....so I guess it's still safe for me to do that....."lol"! I think I'm just gonna "make like an ostrich".....and go bury my head in a "hole"....."lolzzzzz"!!! :P
Flubbles (Sep 25, 2009)
I guess you just cant teach an old dog new tricks.
Miss_DJ (Sep 25, 2009)
Oh, firecracker, don't go doin' that. Just go draw another pretty picture.
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
Quotation marks are not for emphasizing a word. That is simply not what they are for.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
I don't know where you went to school axil......but I did learn how to use proper punctuation in English class.....my english teacher would probably "expell" you from school, if she could see this discussion....haha! :P
Flubbles (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Why dont you try using *asterisks* instead , or maybe CAPITALS.You could also highlight a word by using bold or Italics.
dotdalidot (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Oh I see, you're trying to emphasize the word. Usually, though, when a word needs to be emphasized it is either bolded or italicized. Just like flubbles suggested. Or, you can even underline the word. Or, if it pleases you, you may even do some form of combination thereof. Also, what flubbles said above. :)

-I really like the *asterisks* idea too, I think you might like that fire. It's like a spin-off of the "quotations"
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
I don't know how to make my letters bold or italic when I write a comment here.....my keyboard doesn't do that.
cyclops (Sep 25, 2009)
"lolzzz"
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
Fire: look this over http://www.juvalamu.com/qmarks/

xD this may help:
http://2draw.net/docs/site/nifty/
look at the basic formatting section.
Flubbles (Sep 25, 2009)
Somebody please explain how to do the bold and italics... i've lost the will to live.
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Please don't lose the will to live flubadub.....I would surely miss "sparring" with you....."lol"! I've seen that link before axil.....it's very confusing, but I did look thru all the misused quotes there. Dot.....I do like this link that you provided here.....I'm gonna try to figure out how to use it, to make letters either bold or italic.....thanks!! I've never used that niftymarkup tool before.....I hope I can learn to use it....."lol"! :)
dotdalidot (Sep 25, 2009)
You will, I believe in you! You can do it fire!
firecracker (Sep 25, 2009)
Thanks Dot.....I'm really gonna try!!! "lol"! :)
Axil62 (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Fire: If you want to italicize a word just type [ i ] before the word and [/ i ] after the word like this [ i ] italics [/ i ]. but do not put a space between the box brackets and the "i". Same thing if you want to bold a word, only instead of the letter "i" between box brackets it's the letter "b". [ b ] bold [/ b ]. (no spaces between the b and the brackets)
firecracker (edited Sep 25, 2009)
[ok/] I'm trying it to see if this word comes out italic. Let me try again....ok Yayyy! It worked! Thanks for explaining axil.....I'm gonna keep workin on it...."lol"! Now I'm wondering why my whole sentence came out italic???? :( Ok....I'm going to see what happens if I try to make this wordbold...
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
That's pretty good but you have to but a [/i] after the word too or else the rest of the sentence will be italics. opening and closing tags.
Miss_DJ (edited Sep 25, 2009)
I feel I must admit my ignorance to this wonderful technique as well!

Okay. So, what else can we do that's fun?
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
you can bold and italicize at the same time.
Miss_DJ (edited Sep 25, 2009)
No fricken way!
Axil62 (Sep 25, 2009)
WAY!
firecracker (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Ok......I think I know how to do this now....it really is kinda fun!
Miss_DJ (edited Sep 25, 2009)
Uh-oh! NOW I have to learn how to underline!
Oh my goodness, I figured it out! I feel so smart!
lori (Sep 25, 2009)

ps...Remember, abusing niftyToo markup can lead to losing points and being banned!

I feel so silly now. Humility is a good thing. I like it.
