I wanna know who's who... girl, boy, woman, man... what's your name, just first name... be more personable people 'cmon.... at least everyone here knows I'm Lori and I have ...........issues ... I just got back from a Bible retreat yesterday... a weekend in the mountains.... it was wonderful.. the pastor spoke so eloquently.. and about things I really needed to hear. I'm very thankful. I don't get to go to church every weekend because I don't drive, and my folks don't want to go with me.. I don't know anyone close by that I could carpool with... so this was a real treat. I do know now though, that there is a group I can go to by myself with people my age, midweek, at night.. so I think I'm doing that :D so happy. Anyway... I ramble. Sorry.
shults (May 3, 2010)
I'm Shalva, and I'm a student for psychology and economics, thus have other issues. :)

I like the vibrancy in the colors you choose..
firecracker (May 2, 2010)
I don't know the difference between knitting and crocheting......I can't do either one. One time (many years ago), my daughter made a beautiful little afghan for me.....I don't know whether she knitted it or crocheted it.....but the colors are so vibrant...it's really pretty. That's something that I will keep forever.
lynnandcharlie (May 2, 2010)
knitting is done with 2 needles and crochet is done with one hook, I learned how to crochet because I wanted an afghan and I didn't know anyone to make one for me so I learned how to make my own, I know you will keep the afghan your daughter made for you
firecracker (May 3, 2010)
Yes.....I will definitely keep the afghan that my daughter made for me.....it's very special.....

This is really beautiful, just as it is. I can only imagine it finished ...how amazing this will be. Love her expression, the canvas size and the curves in it.

Sorry, didn't mean to bump this to the top, just wanted to complete it. I kept thinking about that poem "Ozymandius" while I was playing with the watercolour brush...trying to make it look like her body was made of sand, blowing away in the wind.

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
by Percy Bysshe Shelley

the photo was taked by my daughter who is tall and yes this is difficult for me to do and in paintings lines on childrens faces makes them look old but in the photo there are deep creases and it has given me fits trying to figure out how to get the deep smile lines in, I finally softened them until they are almost gone, I am still not happy with the face of the girl on the rt there is something wrong with her cheek
lynnandcharlie (May 1, 2010)
drawn in 12 min
I think that is a little better
Teapot (May 1, 2010)
Working this small on something with as many details as your photo would have is so difficult. There just isn't enough room to get a graduated shadow so you end up with the deep looking lines you mentioned. It's a good exercise in figuring out how to use your own judgment for how much detail to leave out. Lightening those lines worked well, I think.
lynnandcharlie (May 1, 2010)
because the creases were so deep they just looked old, so I figured it was better to make adjustments rather than staying true to the ref pic. I am going to give it a rest for a while then take another look at it

Meet Harley, an English black lab. He belonged to a very close friend of mine who just had to put him down this past Tue. The poor fella was ill with cancer and his quality of life had dwindled to near nothing. What a very, sad, sad day/week this has been for his family & friends =(

This dog, like so many others, was very unique! His fav past time, when he wasn't sleeping, was to literally carry a very large, black tire around in his mouth with his two front legs inside it as he walked. This brute could even carry a tire coming out of the water while it's filled to the brim! When he'd get tired of carrying it, he'd lay it down and begin his routine of circling around and around it while licking the tire walls, making them shine as good as any armor all could!

Harley also loooooved to play fetch! When his 'daddy' wasn't throwing his favorite, soggy, slobbery tennis ball for him to chase, he'd throw, not a stick, but a thick branch, as thick as someone's lower leg! Much like this one in my drawing. And we're not talking 1 or 2 ft in length either. It was more like 5 or 6 ft long usually! His daddy would throw it into the Chattahoochee River here in GA and Harley would swim out to get it and bring it all the way back to dad. When he was finally tired of that, he'd lay down in the edge of the water and begin to make mincemeat out of it! That's what he was doing the day this photo was taken, this past summer.

Harley was a 'huge statement' in his family and among his family's friends, who will be missed more than anyone will ever realize! I wanted to do something special for my friend, his 'mommy' so when I found this picture, I decided I'd pour everything possible into this drawing! Even while sick, since I came down with something yesterday =(. It's all worth it tho.....I will have this printed and framed for my friend =)
Although a very challenging drawing, I enjoyed drawing it more than I knew I would!

RIP my gorgeous friend, Harley! I love you! =)
