As true as that is... there's a reason this is the advanced board.

Contest Week 90: Blue Silence
Kloxboy (edited Dec 19, 2008)
Contest Week 90: Blue Silence Paint something using only a blue color palette (any and all variations of the color blue). The subject of your work should convey silence (in meaning, do not write the word in your painting). No photo references are to be used, just use your imagination. I'm going back to basics with these next few contests, perhaps someday we'll try something a bit more challenging, like the Rockwell contest. I am taking contest suggestions via memo (and only by memo). ...

Aww, she's adorable, I love her smile and pose.

Wonderful job~!

despite that the subject is a nude-beast, of sorts, it is a remarkable painting and shows your ability albeit accomplished in 9 hours

Tell Bob it's time to draw, don't you think? Merry Christmas.

He's resting on his laurels. And as far as they go, they're fine ones. Personally, though, I hope he starts finding those laurels kind of itchy and uncomfortable soon.

I can see some illustrative qualities in this painting, there seems to be an emphasis on brilliance of color, which a certainly a hallmark of Rockwell's style. Coloring black and white photos is a fun process, I particularly enjoy it myself. Rockwell painted from b/w photos through a good portion of his career, ones that he painstakingly composed himself using neighbors and friends as subjects. The composition in this painting certainly works and fits the subject matter, this was a good photo to paint. The two figures are looking in nearly opposite directions which really opens up the painting. Good work and thanks again for entering.
enjoydotcom (Dec 12, 2008)
Very nice drawing QT it must 've been a true challenge turning a b/w photo into a color painting. I think it is a big pity we were the only two who tried our hand at this contest.

Some parts I'm very happy with the outcome, other parts I want to erase and never do again.
Not sure if it is Rockwelly enough, probably not, but at the beginning I thought the facial expression was fitting.

Very nice job, great shading. Everything seems to 'pop'
Kloxboy (Dec 11, 2008)
A very cute child indeed. The bold, blue eyes are what drew me in first, they're really district against the slightly warm-toned, white skin. This piece seems to catch that randomness of life and facial expression, she looks like she's in mid-thought, as if something just occurred to her. The painting style is rather bold, I can certainly see some of Norman's influence in that respect. Well done Joyce, thanks again for entering.

I agree with you enjoy. I am very disapointed. Wish more people would participate. But.....it is not a very good season as everyone is probabally terriblly busy. Beuatiful entry by the way....is this you? (I assume it is)

Pingu! Sweet.
They don't make em' like they used to.
enjoydotcom (edited Dec 11, 2008)
An even funnier episode
What I find funniest besides the stories, noot noot and feet sound is that the iglu is tiny from the outside but massive from the inside.

If you like Pingu, you might also like this : Pat a Mat.

In Dutch it has voices, thought I spare you that torment.

Man, oh man. Haha, first off, I really hope I'm posting appropriately here. Not entirely sure if this should be beginner or intermediate or what. Do let me know what's up on that subject. Anyways, hopefully I can contribute to the joint, whole damn lot of talent here for sure. SO UH... HI GUYS. YEAH. :D

Background will be done. Also, I have a specific question to put forth on the hat. Are black lines rad, or would someone like to see a little more work with the colours to define the texture? I really wasn't sure which I would prefer myself, hence both sorta going on there. And at least half the time spent was just fiddling with Lascaux and sketching to warm up, so ignore the hour 30 on that. D:

Lavender is such an awesome, manly color.

Contest Week 89: The Rockwell Children
Kloxboy (edited Dec 11, 2008)
Contest Week 89: The Rockwell Children Draw yourself when you were a child (anytime before you were 13 years old), in Norman Rockwell's painting style. You do not have to post a photo reference but I highly suggest you use one. This is not a realism contest, the goal is to make your piece resemble Rockwell's painting style. Do not copy a Rockwell painting and add your face to it, that's not painting in Rockwell's style, that's just copying. Who was Norman Rockwell? Here's a little ...
