"So many wrong decisions in my past, I'm not quite sure if I could ever hope to trust my judgment anymore. But lately I've been thinking, because it's all I've had to do. And in my heart I feel that I should give this child to you. And maybe you can tell your baby when you love him so that he's been loved before by someone who delivered your son from God's arms to my arms to yours. And if you choose to tell him and if he wants to know how the one who gave him life could bear to let him go, just tell him there was sleepless nights I prayed and paced the floor and knew the only peace I'd find is if this child was yours." --a young mother any suggestions? i'd love to hear them... okay, worked on the eyes and arms a little...still a little weird tho, *sigh* i wish i could make it better...ill try again later.

I love it. The poem makes me cry and the picture really captures it. Great work!
brushes4 (edited Jan 30, 2004)
as someone who has been on both sides of that poem, i found it very comforting, your picture glows with the love a mother feels knowing she made the right decison, its very soft and warm, yet the small important things like her tears, her eyes and the babies face are finer, more detailed. beautiful piece dixie :O) i also love how the image is like a page torn from her life, not to throw it away but to tuck it safely in her heart.okay, i think im gonna stop before i overdo it...hope this is ok...if you have any further suggestions, please let me know...thanks

reminds me of the Venus painting by....uh, someone famous. Oh well, I'm not an art historian but consider it flattery to be compared to a master.
marcello (Jan 22, 2004)
It's alright, but I think the lighting on the face could use some work (like I mentioned on another piece). More contrast, "lighter lights, darker darks."Also the face seems somewhat deformed to me, almost cat-like. Maybe the jaw/mouth comes out too far. If you wanted to fix it, you could try moving the neck and back of the jaw forward rather than the whole face back. i dont want to mess with it anymore

I like the flying hair, and her expression is so sad! |

i was playing witht eh different textures and it looked to me like the fabric of an old womans winter coat, then she looked so sad and i didnt want her to be sad so i drew the ghost of her husband always near her.

Jump!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jan 29, 2004)
No, Marcello, the shadow is behind him, on the inside ledge of the cliff that you cant see. Consistent with all the other shadows. (That is, if he is casting one yet. He just now jumped :) He would have to still be standing on the ledge for there to be a shadow there.
Look (Jan 29, 2004)
lol @ that jump onto the ground comment. If you move him furthur up, it might help to clear it up. I like the sensation in the drawing, probably because of the free and open pose of the chracter. Feels like flying.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 29, 2004)
Yeah, I do see what he means... I probably wasn't successful in portraying how it actually looked - We are (supposed to be) viewing it from a rock a little higher up on the cliff looking downward at him and he was right on the edge. But if i gotta explain it, it means it sucks! lol
dixielandcutie (Jan 29, 2004)
