Used a reference picture, but I changed some of the details. I am finaly glad to be finished with this one, it did take me a while but not as long as the timer says. Sometimes you don't realize how much detail there is in a picture.

He looks like an uncle of mine. This has the look of one of those political cartoons you see on the editorials page. It's very interesting!
laurael (edited Jul 2, 2004)
That name sounds like it just 'so' fits this character. Great sketch here...you're the Sketch King, Dino.
Aubrey (Jul 2, 2004)
Cool Vulture type fella Dino, very creative, and it DOES look like somethin you'd see in a political cartoon. Very great observation! You draw such neat pictures Dino :)
Gigge (Jul 2, 2004)

I wanted to paint some fireworks, so I did this from a pretty photograph I found

Most every year I get together with my brothers and we set a good example for all of our children by shooting roman candles at each other, wiring bottle rockets together and holding stuff in our hands until it almost (just almost) explodes, lighting the whole package of black cats and throwing it at the neighbor's annoying dog. It's still not as much fun as when I was little and my uncle would help us build homemade stuff out of gunpowder, foil, matches and stuff. Can't do that sort of thing anymore... it's dangerous.

wohoo! Excellent. Your description reminds me of what I still do, too! :D FUN FUN FUN! I looooove the colors in the water! Just gorgeous!
davincipoppalag (Jul 2, 2004)
Gorgeous work on the reflected colors in the water! The shellbursts are particularly good also!
laurael (Jul 2, 2004)
This is just spectacular looking dba...wow. What G said about the colors reflected on the water...yeah.
The Queen Mary, huh? I was so close to this ocean liner one time, I reached out and 'touched' it.... :] Awesome ship, awesome artistry, dba.
Aubrey (Jul 2, 2004)
I wish I had a view of the fireworks from there lol. Hope they don't get rained out this year.. seems to be a plague here lately :-/

just out of curiosity, which artists are most influential to you? personally, Julia Lichty, mooncalfe (ross someone?) and Estrigious come to mind. and of course Salvador Dali (my god whos art is all over my walls), and H.R. Giger are really great too, though i can never hope to be as great as them. and more locally, zappo, hakkai and kasha have all inspired me tons. awesome drawi...

very good likeness, I knew who it was immediately. Where's Huggy (if I remember his name properly)?
laurael (Jul 1, 2004)
Thanks so much all of you for your comments.
D & D...Yeah, lol, 'Hutch' is the reason I was cussing at this one and why I said...'I'm trying and that this was not easy. I think I spent at least a good three hours on 'him' and he still isn't quite right. Some faces totally allude me...blah... :p
THUG...You thought the same thing I did when I saw this pic. I had been thinking of adding Huggy, but ended up scrapping that idea when 'Hutch' took so long to do... :)
Aubrey (Jul 2, 2004)
I like it alot.. looks like a picture out of a magazine :)
Knockoff (Jul 4, 2004)

Oooh, this is very nice, Lori. I love how you're always experimenting and coming up with these creative things.
davincipoppalag (Jul 1, 2004)
That's what it looked like to me too Gigge. I like this Lori, did you do it with that sharpening tool thingy? (I can never make that do anything)
LovelyLori (Jul 1, 2004)
yeah, used the sharpening tool.... I never feel like it does much for me either... lol, but I like it's effect anyway.... I would love to do a meaningful pic one of these days soon... like, ya know, a REAL pic.... but can't get in the mood to do it! but yeah, emma.... experimenting is always fun :)

This will be an image of my best friend, as the title says, my "partner in crime". I think the pic of her looks more like a doll than I did, partly because she's wearing more make-up. Anyway, I'm using the photo I took of her as ref.

Great job on her eyes and bottom lip. And ooh, you drew teeth well; that's really difficult. To me, anyway.
