Orwell's Odyssey

Concept art for a game design competition where the theme is Ocean Odyssey. There should be some other work popping up soon...You play Orwell, an alien whose spaceship crashlanded at the bottom of the ocean. Luckily his cockpit can transform into a bubble, and help him get to the surface. But, there's lots of dangerous sea creatures out there, and you have to guide him around, sometimes shooting smaller bubbles to trap enemies. However, your bubble is diminishing as you use air, so you have to keep your trigger finger under control and look out for air pockets! Help Orwell reach the surface safely!

Not based on the (apparently) crappy movie, but on this lovely EP cover:Softhearted Scientists - The Wendigo EP I've taken some liberties due to the crappy image quality (i.e. the leather jacket :P). It'd make an awesome halloween costume... I think I'll start posting all my references now, I feel like I'm cheating :P I'll finish the background off later.

A culmination of Scott Walker Album covers (1,2 and 4).My first post on the Advanced board, mainly because I'm pretty sure this will take up some space when it's finished. It's as finished as I'm gonna get it. :S I feel a little disappointed to let it down badly, but I'm moving on...

I've always admired that style of drawing. I don't know what it's called, so I always think of it as "looks like it's a silkscreen drawing"..I'm sure someone here will post what it's called. I like this, anywayThat lineart can come later... :P
Got basic colours down. Maybe I won't use the extra space after all...

Bartley, a character from a game I'm designing, partner Crutch, yet to be drawn.Pretty much based on Mike from Monsters Inc. although he used to look like Bert from Trapdoor. I had to post the lineart because I'm quite proud of it. Never done nuffin' like that before... Okay, I'm not entirely sure with this colouring.
The arms look great, but the main body seems a bit 'meh' I'll do a better job when I draw both characters together...

I've had a reburst of motivation to learn how to draw a bit better using the ol' painting tools. I did a musketeer a while ago, but it was rubbish. I've kinda used Derek Yu's latest painting walkthrough to help me work out stuff about composition and building up a picture using brushes rather than random pixel work. Hope it's worthy of the Intermediate board. :P
