How layers work.
- Layers can be thought of as clear sheets of plastic that you draw or paint on. Each layer is independent of the other, and their order can be changed.
- The main use for layers is being able to paint behind something without changing it. This is essential for coloring lineart, but is also useful for seperating the foreground, midground, and background.
- Layers can also be useful for transparency. For example, if your drawing had a ghost in it, you could have the ghost on its own layer and set it to half opacity. (Opacity is the opposite of transparency.) This is also useful for lighting effects.
- Keep in mind, however, that more layers usually means bigger file size.

Adding layers.
In Oekeki-Shi, each drawing starts out with a default of three layers. Usually that is all you need, but if you need to add a layer, click the Menu button in the layers window. Lascaux starts with just one layer. To add layers in Lascaux, simply click the button under the word Edit on the left.

Changing layer order.
After selecting the layer you want to move, drag it in the direction you want to move it.

Hiding/showing layers.
To hide or show a layer in Oekeki-Shi, click on the circle to the right of its name in the layer window. To hide or show a layer in Lascaux, click on the V to the left of its name in the layer list.

If you really want it to stay in advanced, I suggest shading it, and adding a background...

Yeah, this was my pet betta... I guess I never really had a name for him/her... Well, I have to say, he/she went through quite a bit. Bowl got knocked over spilling the water out, got stuck in the drain while trying to clean out its bowl, got its bowl knocked over by a cat and it sat on the gameroom floor for around 2 hours... And, it survived all those things and came out just fine. But, although it survived all that, it still died eventually...

My betta's name is Bill, lol.. actually, all bettas they sell in the pet stores and whatnot are male, the female one are very plain looking,
davincipoppalag (Jul 22, 2004)
They are pretty hardy fish. They can survive in little pockets of water for extended periods. They sure are pretty to look at, and you did a good job drawing him. The color is vibrant.
emmamommalag (edited Jul 22, 2004)
Very nice, xiau. I love the color and you did a great job on the scales, etc.
ILoveKenshin (Jul 22, 2004)
Wow, that's great! The body is so detailed! I have a friend who used to breed bettas.. She lives in Australia now.. ;-; She gave me a betta, but he died.. ;-; Great job!

I was thinking of making a fluffy RP character, then thought, "A cheeky boy feather dragon!" Thus is Tory.

AAAAWW!!
ILoveKenshin (Jul 14, 2004)
I really don't think that this should be in intermediate. Here are some tips: Have a bit more shading on the yellow part, spend a little more time on the bg, and color in the star... It's cute, but I think a little more effort could be put into it. ^^
