Aw, I so thought yours would have won too :( (and my vote would have gone to yours). Well, I'm glad you placed in any case! Still love this piece :D.
Sweetcell (Mar 4, 2008)
This is my absolute favorite. I was sure it would win.
cianteed2 (Mar 5, 2008)
Thanks guys! <3
I'll just have to try harder next time. :)

Em.....follow the yellow brick road?
No really, the reason I do linework well with mouse is because of practice...and I've also had LOADS of practice with a pencil. Personally I like the tablet but I think I still work just as well with a mouse because I've trained my hand to work steadily with it. Any one just starting with either is going to have problems....>.>....um any who....yeah. ^^;

With all of the comments you've already recieved on this piece..mine probably won't mean much..but just wanted to say how impressed I am with your work...Beautiful!!!

New here. Would welcome advice on the hair. Used the blender and set the opacity low, but it still looks really fake.

I reworked the hair and it looks more natural now I think. I didn't realize you could go back into a "finished" drawing.
tandrew971 (Apr 20, 2006)
i really like that about this site..being able to go and fix something even after its finished. the hair looks great (as does the rest)
Meno (Mar 7, 2008)
Whaddaya talkin' 'bout? I like the hair .... like golden strands of wheat.
QTgillie (Jun 23, 2009)
i think how the hair is finalized is fabulous.

Haha, nice to see more SSBB players :). I actually thought for the longest time that Snake seemed to be rather lacking in playability, but apparently I was wrong when I was playing someone today. They were able to tie the dash attack with their up-A smash attack which turned out to be rather deadly. Hah, I guess I'm just rambling now...

Good drawing anyway :)
Sweetcell (May 17, 2008)
Always glad to see a Silvair picture. You just make teal scrumptious.
Silvair (May 18, 2008)
Thanks for the comments guys!
@Gigandas: Haha, I love watching people play as Snake.. but I'm downright suicidal when I play with him. If you've got like a strategic mind or something, I think he'd be so awesome with all those combo possibilities. ... I miss playing SSBB :(.

:3 wow I like the lighting and detail! Awesome job :D

The Prince of Egypt, quite frankly, is my favoritest animated movie in existence--The Lion King, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid: most people have one of these kinds of movies to say is theirs. However, growing up with a lot of faith and a lot of love for art, I remember watching it when I was 7 or 8, thinking, 'Wow, this movie is beautiful... The art is so pretty'. What caught me more and more as I grew was the dedication put into the piece. Even now, I see little things I didn't see as a child. During the river scene, Aaron and Miriam take eachother's hand in the background. Tzipporah tells Moses the same thing he told her after the burning bush ("Look at your people--they are free." I always loved the way her face looks here). So many things... The music is powerful, the art is beyond any I've seen in an American animation, and the characters are real. Throughout the film, the way Moses and Tzipporah interact, or the way Aaron acts in the background... All these things make me wish Dreamworks would stick to animation instead of 3D work.

Sorry, I lost myself there. ^^

I recently jumped back into PoE, and I can't stop loving it now. It's what I hope to be as an artist: good at drawing, but also excellent at story telling. PLEASE, even if you don't believe in the Bible or whatever, see this movie. That's not what it's about, anyway. It runs a lot deeper than that.

Many nights we've prayed, with no proof anyone could hear~~

Done, I think. ^^ Nothing too extravagant, but I wanted to draw them, anyway. :)

I'll probably draw more from this movie...
Gigandas (Apr 24, 2009)
Speaking of Prince of Egypt, Steve Hickner, the director/storyboard artist from Dreamworks just visited my Pictorial Background class in person to talk about what good story-telling is all about and how characters are best introduced within movies. And no, I'm not kidding :P.
Hokori (Apr 24, 2009)
@firecracker: You HAVE to see this movie, then! It's a classic! ^///^

@Gigandas: Lucky~~! I wish I could've been there. :'(

Decided to go for some realism in a painterly way. I used a photo from a magazine as reference.

Doh! I went way past the 400 kilobyte limit. No chance for revision.

you are, like, wow. this is beautiful.

really lovely :)
Gigandas (Mar 14, 2006)
Try also squinting and looking at this; pretty cool.
I think you must have a good eye for colors and shapes if you can manage to get such a close photo-quality picture out of scribbles.
Flubbles (Mar 28, 2009)

from an old b&w photo from which the caption reads: A marine covered with dirt, grime and coral dust boards a coast guard assault transport in February of 1944 after two days and nights of fighting on Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands.

More than anything else, I wanted to capture his expression... that "thousand mile stare". Think I got it.

I saw what you wrote about the new book and I went to look at your gallery. For what it's worth, I think the book will be lacking by missing you. Your work is fabulous.
