Was trying to draw a female face without reference but ended up hating the result, so I started messing with the right eye which I especially disliked and then ultimately just started doodling random, disjointed shapes all around her face.

It has a Giegeresque feel to it. This will be great.

pretty cool stuff, David...looks a little bit like one of the coneheads from Saturday Night Live... :) (I like the labyrinth design inside the outline of her face)

Just scribbled over the original image since I didn't like it.

I can sincerely say that I like both of them. The second version you say you "scribbled" over... I think it looks a bit more like Monet impressionist strokes insted of scribbles. They are both really interesting and pleasing to look at.
davincipoppalag (Mar 29, 2006)
I like them both, too. This latest one sort of looks like a combination of Anthony Hopkins, and Charles Laughton.
patienceisoverrated (Mar 30, 2006)
Anthony Hopkins and Charles Laughton.... on a stick!!!
...I'm sorry.

I like this thing you do where you add colour/value with little short lines. Looks cool, very different from other stuff seen here.

Thanks everyone, but yes, I was really wondering what was up with the comments. Did everyone else realize this is a head impaled on a stick with blood coming out of the eyes and the eye on the right being pushed out of the eye socket? I think it's really ugly and nasty: a terrible thing to look at. I was in a terrible mood when I doodled this, and it was really frustrating to me that I couldn't delete that original version which wasn't even marked as finished. Now I wish once again that I could delete, as this is a thing of nightmares.

The short little strokes and scribbles are really just me being lazy. I want to not be so painterly and blend things in, but I had a hard time doing this in lascaux. In painter, I tend to paint this scribbly way at first, but then I use the blend tools to quickly smudge them into these nice smooth regions of color. I can't really do that so easily in lascaux. :(

Sweetcell (Apr 13, 2006)
Looking awesome. I drew a hella bunch of cars for a game and I found the toughest thing was the placement of the wheels. Looking forward to seeing this finished.

cindy: i still have the feeling. this is bjork, so its not wonderfully creative, i just had to draw, or my head would explode i think. its a weird thing...i used to be more creative when my mood was down, but now that my mood is up, i cant draw..so its making me depressed..haha. anyway..thanks for hating me. ^_^

woah_pockster (Mar 28, 2006)
wow o_o this really drags me in.. it must be the contrast between the blurry bg and the sharp solids in the fore ground.. o_o.. I LOVE IT
how do you do these? they're awesome I'm so jealous of you! <333333
Miss_DJ (Mar 28, 2006)
thank you!! wow...hey..the tools are all there...in Lascaux. I used a combination of blur, sharpness, difference with different opacity and desaturation. I'm havin a blast..glad you like it! -Donna

DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Mar 27, 2006)
exactly, good advice... something to remember... don't be afraid of the "dark" - The light doesn't show without it. (I like how you did the irises of her eyes)
davincipoppalag (Mar 27, 2006)
I like those eyes, too. What Marcello said.
Mocha_Bean (Mar 28, 2006)
Thanks everyone! This is my 2nd attempt at skin tones...I'm better with black and white tones...but I'll definitely follow your advice...

When I was seven, there was a girl named Julie Lovato who lived up the hill and across the dirt road in my neighborhood. I liked her and I wanted her to like me. She wouldn't give me the time of day. I would take my Schwinn Stingray and ride it past her house on the dirt road. I would wait till I thought maybe she might be looking out the window and I would wipe out on purpose hoping she would come to nurse me and be worried about me. I got a lot of skinned knees and bruises that summer. She never did come out and sometimes I wonder if I ever really did quit trying.

This is not good this is a bad use of colours and looks like CRAP
Axil62 (Mar 31, 2006)
Yeah, not enough contrast and complimentary color I guess.
Artiste (Mar 31, 2006)
Claire's expertise like gold! I wish she would comment on MY peices... lucky!

Schwinn's were the shit. I wish I still had mine. It was blue also, but w/ a regular seat. I could do a wheelie on it for as long as I wanted.
