Contest Week 80: Scene from a book/novel
Sweetcell (Jun 30, 2008)
As it stands now every contest will run a full month, to let people take their time to plan out and finish their entries. This way there's not as much pressure placed on the artist to rush. However if a piece is not finished by that time it will not be judged. Hopefully this will give people more incentive to participate. So now on to the next contest. Contest Week 80: Scene from a book/novel This months contest is Scene from a book. It can be from any book/novel, any ...

OMG now that was an abomination of English language.
enjoydotcom (Aug 4, 2008)
DK, klm's first language isn't English (its not my 1st language either), so I think he (or she, still don't know) is allowed to make errors in spelling.
I like the drawing, warm suiting colors. You might have added a glow of the candle tho.
Scene from Harry Potter?

Oh my gosh, I didn't mean it. I'm so sorry klm21. I feel so mean right now, oh my god this is embarrassing. I feel terrible.

Venus
Powers: Pheromones 100x that of the average human, combined with limited Telepathy, almost any man is immediately led to believe he is in love with her and would do anything she requests. Able to bend their will, and control their desires she is able to repress any aggressive behavior or Ill will towards her.

Has never found love due to the fact that she has never known if someone's feelings for her are real or just their uncontrollable desir
e for her due to her powers. Joined Xaiver's X-men for companionship, to use her power for a noble reason and in hope of finding a mutant able to resist her powers and love her for her.

Always found with faithful companion and protector, Mars.

Mars
Powers: Super Human strength, uncontrolled rage, extremely limited intelligence.

Mars was found by the mob and used as their number one enforcer for years due to his strength and rage. His mob leaders would convince him that his targets had wronged him in some way and he should get revenge. He never fully understood any of the reasons given, but the slightest provacation was enough to set him in motion. Due to his low intellegence he is in essence asexual and single minded in his anger until the day when his gang was stopped by Venus. Mars is the only man that on first meeting Venus has not immediately desired her, but her mere presence fills him with a peace he has never felt before. Venus felt that Mars needed a second chance and was happy to have the company of a man who didn't desire her as every man in the past has. Mars wears a self-imposed chain around his neck, to help control his violent impulses, which Venus leads him around by, only letting him loose when she is in danger and needs to be protected.

**Note**
I think this idea would work better as villans, but I'm making them hero's for the sake of the contest.
I'm thinking of this back story and writing it late at night and I'm tired, so if it doesn't make sense, I'm sorry.
Oh, I should also point out, venus is the roman goddess of love, Mars is the roman god of war

uuuuummmmm that was nauuuuugggghty... you're in taROUBLE NOW. :)
davincipoppalag (Jun 27, 2006)
Good entry kejo..I don't remember you drawing in this style before.
Sweetcell (Jun 27, 2006)
Oh this is outstanding and well thought out background for them. When I first saw this I thought you were drawing bad guys as well, but maybe in the near future there is a mutant who is immune to her powers that she falls in love with, only to have him dump her, breaking her heart and altogether making her turn her back on her fellow x-men to follow the darker road and have revenge against all mankind.

Ok, sorry, I'm taking your story and turning it into my own, but so far yours is the most unique entry I've seen and it's gotten my creative writing juices flowing. Bonza kejoko.
StrawberryPaintbrush (Jun 30, 2006)
Ok, what I don't understand is this: If Venus is looking for someone who can resist her powers, hasn't she found him? You said that Mars is the only one she knows who can resist her powers, and i know he has little intelligence so he may not know how to love her back, but either way, he is resisting still right?

I'm sorry if I confuse you...

Contest Week 79: 18th Century

Because the 18th century saw multiple art movements in Europe, we're going to have themes of both the late Baroque and the Rococo. I would especially recommend looking up Jean-Antoine Watteau and Thomas Gainsborough.

YOUR GOAL WILL BE TO MAKE AN ORIGINAL ARTWORK (not a copy of another painting) that reflects the styles of one of these two art movements.

-Contest Week 79 will be open for entries for roughly 2 weeks starting from now until Saturday, June 21, at 11:59pm PST. That's the end of the day on Saturday for people in the US.

That being said, this is a nice copy.

addendum: oops this isn't for this contest, is it. sorry.
Roytje (Jun 16, 2008)
And it isn't a 18th century painting...
But I like this, nice atmosphere.
kejoco (Jun 16, 2008)
yeah, this was done (never completed) for a contest back in 2006.

Great humor here, I especially liked Butty's Island. All the little details and extra touches you added across the image show a lot of attention and effort.
