For the contest.

Heroic, Fearless, determined. I think batman is a great hero, but at the same time a bit insane. Past the costume, putting his life on the line, etc. Just how he has focused his whole life from a tragic event. Its a fixation like no other, and he goes to such extreme means to fulfill it. So I imagine that in his late years he would become quite depressed. Feelings of impotence, uselessness, hopelessness, and anger. This is something I have thought about for, sucks to draw a hero defeated.

Then again maybe he would reflect back on his life and be happy about all he accomplished. I doubt that to be the case though.

Contest Week 54: Retired Superhero's
Sweetcell (edited Jun 24, 2007)
Contest Week 54: Retired Superhero's *Two Week Contest. Decided to lighten things up so your goal these next two weeks is to draw what you think would happen to Superhero's after they've reached a certain age and retired. What happened to Superman? Is Batman taking rides in his Batmobile for the hell of it? What's up with Spiderman? Make it serious or fun or as wacky as you'd like. It doesn't have to just be Hero's from Western comics. Any Anime character as well, provided you have a l...

Nothing works the way it used to! Muscles upside down and flabby. Short bursts of adrenaline followed by loss of control. And to top it off he's still green.....

Kokubu Karin was just your average junior high school student, that is, until she turns into superheroine Super Pig! [or Buurin] Years later, however, instead of fighting crime, she fights for another day to live. [Though, I don't think old pig tastes very good, does it?]

It hurt so much worse than I expected it, way deep inside to be alone again, and it took only one look to see why. I should never have been so silent in my support when she mentioned planning to get one when she'd found out. I should have said something... but I didn't. It haunts my nightmares, plagues me in the day all to know I could have said... something. But I did nothing, just as I can now do nothing but have my nightmares and shoulder the burden of silence.

Good entry, real shocking, maybe so shocking because just one comment on it yet. Somewhat of a tabu subject.
Klibese (Jun 4, 2007)
Thanks for the comment, then. I find the hotly contested debate over abortion to pale in comparison to the battle the couple must go through.

That definely has shock Value. Very emotional and Touchy subject.

As the title states. Imagery like this is not shocking to me.
Personally I find that the majority of the public enjoy extreme gore, sexual deviance, and death. Just think about what we view.

Gore and death: Hostel, Saw, 300, 28 weeks later, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, CSI series, OZ, The Sopranos, etc.
Sexual Deviance: Law and order SVU, The Tudors, Just porn alone is a HUGE market and includes many themes that would blow others minds.

The news we all watch holds a cache of horror and fear.

And we LOVE IT. We want more of it. Then again, its apart of our nature as much as love, healing, and creation are. Well... don't show love making on TV because of children (Rather be parents). Remember the 80s? Some shows were essentially softcore porn.
I find that gore and extreme situations can also be utilized to make beautiful art and cinema.
Ichi The Killer, once past all the insanity, rape, and gore. Was a really good movie, and had some very intelligent ideas behind it on top of beautiful Imagery. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance as another one. VIDEODROME, SUSPIRIA, The Box, etc. All works of art.

Then you have the drawn artists like Junji Ito, Hans Bellmer, Surhiro Maruo, Kage, etc.

So these vile themes can be used past the newest shitty horror movie. I think the only people who find such shocking are those not ever exposed, or those predisposed to be shocked by modes of thinking (ex: religion, culture, etc.)

SO AFTER ALL THAT BULLSHIT I JUST WROTE, WHAT IS SHOCKING TO ME?

A world where we do not kill and hurt each other, a world where people loved each other, societies of people built on selflessness and community, a world where all are truly equal.

But this is merely long-dead-romantic-rhetoric made for people to impale themselves upon. Such a utopia is fantasy for now.

I officially disqualify myself from this contest because I could not come up with an image that expresses what I find shocking. Sorry for making you read all of that.

What's with all the words. Why not draw something that would say all you just said, It probably would of won if you did.
Speak with your art.

Contest Week 53: Shock Art
Kloxboy (edited Jun 12, 2007)
Contest Week 53: Shock Art *Two week contest. Your goal these next two weeks is to make shock art. There are many types of art that fall under "shock art", so this contest will be very open. When coming up with an idea for this contest, consider what is shocking and why. Remember to consider your 2Draw audience, some members are shocked easier than others, so try to think "universal shock". What ideas are controversial? What images make people cringe? What ideas/images evoke hysteria a...
