I do a lot of painting, from my imagination as well as references... I have to think through where a shadow would go, I also doodle a lot and try and work stuff out by talking to myself! I reckon its mainly just lots of practice, and even so I get stuff wrong.. I really admire the people here who are photorealistic!

yummy- we dont see sunsets cos we live on the dark side of a hill, I only know if they are good if I see pink clouds- then I jump in the car and drive over the hill.... I have not seen a sunset at home since we moved into this street in 1981!

My annoyance is contrived from the feeling like the clock matters in the least. Superficial, even. Regardless, it doesn't matter to me since I enjoy his picture. The colors work together quite well.
