Still trying to make a good background. I tried to make it look like how Ian of Mac Hall does it, But it kinda turned out shitty. -_-;; And I have no idea where the hell those two are. Maybe a lounge of a hotel. And in hindsight, I probably should have made the canvas a bit smaller -- There's too much blank space.

And now, I am done complaining. ^_^

its a great drawing man two thumbs up

Whooo Mac Hall! (I love that comic.) Anyway, if you really want it to look more Ian-ish, first thing is; smoother lineart. Two, color must stay within deh lines. Three, the shading must be more cell-like. Like so. If you notice, he really just will color the expanse of say, a face, with one solid color, then block in the shadows with a darker color. You did good with the background.

.......yeap. *shuffles away*
Tina (Sep 15, 2003)
Wow, I envy you so much. ¦D''' Your furries are almost TOO good. I really like the background by the way. Awesome! :D
TheLIVR (Sep 15, 2003)
Oh yeah, Vamp, don't forget the massive amounts of photoshop work and a graphics art major. Those help the look too.
concannon (Sep 15, 2003)
TheLIVR: Sarcasm is not appreciated. I was attempting to be helpful. It's not your place to throw my suggestions back in my face; it's not your piece of work.

So take your sarcastic wit and shove it up your ass.
marcello (Sep 15, 2003)
afaik thelivr and furyofroy are (good?) friends...
mazi (Sep 16, 2003)
jeez calm down people. constructive comments are fine.. shes not bashing anyone just trying to suggest some things to help out.. quit strangling eachother over nothing
nightmare_gypsy (Sep 17, 2003)
Oh, LIVR's just an asshole. I know him as well as Roy, and it's just how he is.
TheLIVR (Sep 17, 2003)
Hmm...

I see. The thing is, that I was pointing out that Roy's work is excellent, and above par to that of which many can do. The fact that he's measuring himself against Ian McConville is in my opinion, very optimistic. The finished art that Ian does goes through hours of post editing. The fact that Roy got even close to that kind of quality is incredible in its own right. I never tried to nullify what you said, but I simply stated that MacHall quality is something extremely hard to obtain with programs like oekaki-shi painter. If you ever see Roy's actual art, (small taste at http://www.freewebs.com/room42/artwork.htm) you'll see that his lines are smoother, and some of the proportions are better done. I don't like being attacked for what I say, so consider this my defense.

And nightmare_gypsy: Get bent.

*massages forehead in annoyance*

Look. In no way was I bashing Roy, insulting his work, etc, etc. I agree, he's fantastic for his age, and per usual, most of his drawb by hand works are better than his oekaki. However, it IS possible to attain smoother lines in Shi-Painter, and I was just pointing it out. The point is, he's trying to work his way up to Ian's level, and he's well on his way there. However, if he gains no constructive criticism....what's he going to base his improvement on?

Also. I know what it's like to compare yourself to people who are ridiculously skilled; I, myself, stupidly compare myself to people such as Cara Jane Mitten, Aido Rakaen, Ursula Vernon, Jessica Hickman, Roux (Hilary See Penna), Lurid, Holly Ramirez, Amelia Stoner, and so forth. And because of constant viewing of their work, improvement can be achieved. I've drawn both a piece in Amelia Stoner's style, and one in Cara Mitten's.

And for the last note: If you don't like being attacked for what you say, say what you originally planned to say more politely the next time. Then something like this *waves hand around* may be avoided.
TheLIVR (Sep 18, 2003)
I know what I did was definately not constructive criticism, and maybe not the most polite as it did. However, it is needed. Grounding statements like those can really help people refocus, so they don't delude themselves into a constant "oh my god, I suck, why can't I draw as well as amazingly-godly-artist-guy?" One of the things I hate the most of my artist friends is there constant self-loathing. I've found that they need perspective. Not the drawn type, the mental one. To keep a level head, they need to keep their eyes on the reality of things. If Roy happened to actually be able to create a work that matched one of Ian McConville's weekly cartoons, you know what it would mean? That Roy is a better artist than Ian McConville, and was able to produce top quality merchandise with inappropriate tools.
