I love that ammonite pin <3 I wear it everyday.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 4, 2006)
I'm curious about your pin... is it made from an actual fossil? I have a fascination with them... anything to do with rocks, really. There are tons of them in the rocks around the lake, I collect them, even if I have to bust them out with something. :)
Deino (edited Jul 4, 2006)
No, it isn't real. But I have plenty of real fossils all around my room, you see I love them too! I've got ammonites of diferent sizes, trilobites from germany, seashells, plants and my greatest treasure: A megalodon tooth!
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jul 4, 2006)
Wow... a megalodon tooth... I climbed down in a hole on the river with a college group that was cutting out dinosaur tracks at Dinosaur Valley, not far from here.... I was walking along the bank looking at the tracks (everything from bird to dinosaur tracks along that river),stumbled on them and said hey, can I see? They just laughed and said, "sure"! it was fun. I keep mine in my garden... I have really big ones and the tiny little snail looking ones, like your pin.
Deino (Jul 4, 2006)
Oh, you are so lucky! :( I've always wanted to be in a paleontological expedition... I was once invited to a lab thought! :D
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 4, 2006)
Well, I just kind of invited myself to that one and slid down into the hole. :)... Where did you get the tooth?
Deino (edited Jul 4, 2006)
In a... market :( It's hard to find fossils in a city ._. But I did found some of my ammonites by myself x)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 4, 2006)
You'd have a "hay day" around here... they are everywhere in the rocks for miles around here. It's so much fun looking for them... maybe you should consider going into that field... it's nice to have a job that you love, doesn't seem so much like work. :)
Deino (Jul 4, 2006)
To be a paleontologist... one of my lifelong dreams that is now being confronted by my desire to study something involving art :( This is going to be one of the most hard and important decitions in my life.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Jul 4, 2006)
As far as I know, there is no rule book that says you can't do both, and it isn't too late to get started, you are young enough. Study both, do both. (one of the attorneys I worked for went to medical school first, actually finished, decided he didn't want to be a doctor and then went to law school. I think that's evidence enough that you can do whatever you want if you want to do it badly enough, and you don't have to choose today)

edit: if you go into paleontology, you are less likely to starve to death, and you can always carry a sketch book with you on your expeditions.
Deino (Jul 4, 2006)
I have tought about that before... I still have one year before university, so I could study hard so I can pass the UNAM exam for biology and also apply for the fine arts school :) it is going to be difficult, I know... but I still can try!
concannon (Jul 4, 2006)
Hey, I wanted to be a paleontologist! I'm a dinosaur geek. :]
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 4, 2006)
You can still be one. :)

I'm sleepy, will finish it tomorrow. :)
Sweetcell (Jul 4, 2006)
Well considering some paleontologists and archivists always sketch thier finds so they know how the dino or lost city stones look so they could re-create them later I don't see why you couldn't combine the two. Or you could go into the field where they have artists reconstruct the skin and color and look of the beastie or lost city. Some jobs do go together.

This is looking like Van Gough's style of painting. Hope to see it finished soon.
davincipoppalag (Jul 4, 2006)
I love all that stuff, too. When I lived in upstate NY..we used to go to a quarry not far from my house, and we would find all kinds of fossil plants, and things like trilobites. It was such fun looking for them.

DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jul 5, 2006)
I like the way this turned out... the army/olive green and the sort of glowing fluorescent color you used for the flesh tones are cool looking together.
Deino (Jul 5, 2006)
Thanks Deadly. Olive green is my favorita color :D
Sweetcell (edited Jul 5, 2006)
Ahhh, you gave yourself some flowers. Flowers is nice.

Is that Westminster Abbey in the background or am I seeing things?
Deino (Jul 6, 2006)
I would say they look more like the petronas towers Sweetcell... but actually, the whole background is part of one of my dreams, the most beautiful I have had!
