Started with a magazine photo of rose and had so much fun playing with the program, blew off photo and just shaded. Beginning to get kind of Georgia O'Keefe-ish towards the top. I could retitle it "Realism Gone Awry?"

gerbear, good to see u here, finally i can see your drawings in colour :) this is looking very pretty cant wait to see it finished.
gerbear (Apr 5, 2006)
Hey Sweets, yeh, will prolly lose my job, hubby divorce me, etc, etc. End up under a bridge with nary a thing but my laptop, wireless card and wacom pen *L* I am hooked here already..curse you!! :)

Gemmy,. so this is where you snuck off to! Will ck your gallery out. Thanks for the compliment. Still experimenting with the tools and the programs. It will take a while to find what I like and what fits my style. You know from my odd stuff at YD I will prolly also do strange things here once I get a lil realism off my chest! I really want to do my patterns here in color and possibly with texture. Good to see you!

Thank you Emma. :)

MODERATOR, may I move this to intermediate to get more space please? I would really like to finish this. I am new here, had no clue how much space this would need. Thank you.

I made most of this up, my original ref had 2 roses and I got rid of one. But it was fun. :)
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Apr 13, 2006)
I like the way this turned out, beautiful. I'm sick of doing realism, myself. (boring, tedious, work work it is) What I'm currently working on I started out going the realism direction, and then I took a small detour... must be goin' around.
gerbear (Apr 13, 2006)
DBA..I am a drawing teacher (in Texas btw) *L* and I teach realistic portrait pencil drawing and other stuff. Total realism is work and kind of like my job. Especially sinceI have such a good eye I keep finding a thousand more mistakes and never know when to just stop. But drawing on the puter is fun and I know I will get lured into trying at least one photorealism thing, but right now, i still dont even know how to use layers *L* Thank you for the compliment. i drool over your gallery so it is a real BIG compliment considering the source.
davincipoppalag (Apr 13, 2006)
It's a purty almost realism but you made it up kinda rosie.. hehe
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Apr 13, 2006)
Howdy neighbor! :) Thank you for such a lovely compliment. I started here not knowing how to use the layers.. (or anything else in there). I'll send you a memo with simple blonde (lol) instructions on how to use them, it's not difficult and they are so useful.
gerbear (Apr 13, 2006)
davinci thanks for the almost real but you kinda made it up compliment :)!!
Sweets, thanks so much, tho if you cannot smell it, I have failed. J/K..*hug*
DBA..Houston here. :) A memo on that would be great. I actually read the Lascaux tutorial, oh yes, every word! And it was great except Marcello stopped before he explained how to MERGE layers!! Minor missing detail. I cannot figure out, once you merge which one you can draw on. I use Paint Shop Pro offline (an old old version). It has layers but I have ignored them all these years! I am a whiz at putting other peoples heads on different bodies, freeing zoo animals from their bars, but the layers and masks confounded me. So thanks mucho! :)
davincipoppalag (Apr 13, 2006)
Theres an icon for merging...on the layers side..put your cursor over the boxes and it tells you.. I think its the third one over from the left, If Im not mistaken..once you merge..its all on the same layer..layers are useful for trying an idea without incorporating it into the picture before you are sure,, or for if you screw up..you can delete the layer and start again..very handy..many do their subjects first and then do a background on a new layer..then they drag the new layer down under the subject...(Yes..if you click on a layer in your layerlist you can drag it...layers are wondermous
Kupo (Apr 14, 2006)
Woah..Its so pretty!^^
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Apr 14, 2006)
I am a native Houstonian... grew up 40 miles southeast of there, near the coast. Dave's thingy up there confused me, and I already know how to use the layers. hah... I'll send you that memo now. If I can use them anybody can.
tandrew971 (Apr 14, 2006)
wow...:)
gerbear (Apr 14, 2006)
Kupo and tandrew, thank you both!\

davinci and DBA, thanks for the advice, I look forward to the instructions. I'll ask ya wherebouts se of here in my reply to your memo. :)
davincipoppalag (Apr 14, 2006)
Did the memo and picture of it I sent help make it a little clearer? (I was borned in San Antone yanno...)..
gerbear (Apr 15, 2006)
Yes it did and DBA sent some info also. I will try it on my next pic, maybe the anime I started. Thanks so much, ya'll are very helpful! :)
Gemmy619 (Apr 15, 2006)

gerbear (Apr 16, 2006)
Gemmy and xiau, thanks so much for the support. I am going to switch to intermediate board for the space. Since I am learning the programs I didn't know how any would turn out, but can see I am a space hog already! :)
