Ambush.

Might add a couple more things but it's pretty much done.

rad. i know the tank dude is in the shadows, but do you think artistic license would allow you to add some highlights to the tank type thing for balance?
Zack (Feb 7, 2006)
Thanks! I don't want to add too much highlight to the tank because I want it to look gritty, plus as you mention it's in the shadows. I don't want there to be too much balance either since it's a tense situation. I'll play around with it though and see if it helps some.

I really like how you do machinery and buildings. I think the brightness by that mech draws your eye to it, and it's supposed to because that's what the guy is looking at. After you look at that first, your eye moves to the right, and you're suprised by the detail in the tank. That's just my guess..
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 7, 2006)
cool... great perspective here... I like the graduation of light from outside to behind the tank
Pseudonymous (Feb 7, 2006)
THis is sooo cool! I dont have anything intelligent to say. Just thought I'd let you know that I deem this cool.
Gigandas (edited Feb 7, 2006)
You mean 'gradation,' DBA ;)? Just letting you know for next time is all, hehe :).
As for the piece, it does look intense, but I think I'm gonna have to agree with staci. With the intensity of the lights on the robot, the right side looks a bit unfinished in comparison. I don't think hinting at some reflection of light off the metal here and there wouldn't hurt the piece. Besides, it seems you did a little bit of that on the lower part of the tank (bottom right hand corner), so it 'should' work just fine. Nice scene here.

-Btw, it might have also been cool to see that bazooka guy in v1 finished in this piece.
davincipoppalag (Feb 7, 2006)
You're still the pope of perspective and I love your machines.
terracotta (edited Feb 8, 2006)
Am I weird? (don't answer that) or do other people hear sound FX when they look at really effective artwork? I looked at this and heard that horrible scheeeecchhh-THUMP! those robot mech things make. You got 'gritty' down very well and the composition in this makes me come back to it again and again. Love the colours you've used on the wall and in the shadows. The thing that really gets me, though, is the depth you portrayed in such a small area.
P.S. I understand they spray the metal on tanks with stuff that keeps them from being reflective--it aids with camouflage and prevents detection by reflection from the sun causing glinting that is visible to the enemy from a great distance. I just made that up but it should be true.
SYTHE (Feb 8, 2006)
Makes me want to play a violent video game, anyone will do. I like the style you did this in, great job!
thug (Feb 8, 2006)
Fire! This is fantastic.
JoeNobody (Feb 8, 2006)
I like this, I'm waiting for either the robot to turn and see him or for him to fire before it gets away.......
friend (edited Feb 8, 2006)
WOah!! Brilliant! Does the guy in the tank really need binoculars? The robot seems pretty big without them! Great job!
Zack (edited Feb 8, 2006)
Hmm, good point. Maybe he was looking at something farther off in the distance and this mech just walked right in front of him? Hmm. I'll see if I can work something in next revision.

edit: terracotta, lol. makes sense to me. ;)
HunterKiller_ (Feb 8, 2006)
Awesome subject. Love the painterly style. Your 'bots are too awesome Zack. ^.^
Ceido (Feb 8, 2006)
Maybe he's holding some kinda of binocular pinpointing device. The bloke can pinpoint and then the tank fires automatically! :O
Love the angles in this piece. Great draw! :)
marcello (Feb 9, 2006)
actually terracotta, that's a new 2draw feature I'm testing out on random accounts. it deduces the content of the picture and generates appropriate sound effects/ambient music when possible
DarkCloak (Feb 10, 2006)
Very nice piece!
