Just wondering, what application do you find the most comfortable to use, and why?
Personally, I love Oekaki Shi-Painter because of the simplicity. The color picker is easy to use, I can find the color I want easily, or, using my right mouse button, lift a color from my painting. I don't use most of the tools (I stick mainly with the watercolor brush in various sizes and opacities), so I don't have the screen cluttered up with other tool options. Lascaux tends to go jagged, even with the anti-alias selected, but Shi gives me nice, smooth, easily blended lines. Also, unlike Lascaux, it doesn't slow down my computer at inconvenient times (namely, always). It does tend to leave ugly little lines on the pic if I move it, which is so annoying, but a necessary evil. What do you think? |

Well, it depends on what I"m doing.. if it's pixel-by0pixel, it's lascaux hands down.. but for realism I really prefer Oekaki Shi-Painter (Advanced)
I must say though, I find it easier to do lineart in PaintBBS. OekakiBBS applet is just pure pain. |

I like to use Lascaux because that's what i first started using. Except, people tell me Oekaki is really better and all but i feel easier working with Lascaux simply because i'm familiar with everything.

One can make high-quality masterpieces using Microsoft Word.

marcello (Aug 26, 2005)
Yes, but Microsoft Word costs several hundred dollars. Lascaux is free to use.
Which are you going to choose? =P |

Lascaux is the best.
It's the 1st program I ever used to draw on the computer. Paint BBS is good, but I still keep going back to Lascaux. One day I'll draw something good on lascaux. |

if you mean of all applications then Corel Painter (I'm still on version 8) is my prefered one and probably the one I'll be marketing myself as having focused experience in the most once I graduate.
If you mean the applets then Lascaux is the best, but shi-painter's watercolor doesn't have an exact equivalent in lascaux and I do like that tool a lot. It seems to blend more thoroughly and more smoothly than the blend option on the lascaux brush, unless there's some other option or tool I missed. |
||||
marcello (Aug 27, 2005)
Try using the blend tool in conjunction with lower flow (and a soft brush) and you'll get a closer effect to shi-painter's. It actually works better the faster your computer is, but that's a detail.

O.O I never Knew about the blend tool.
The watercolor tool is the only reason I use paint BBS, but I guess I'll only use Lascaux now. |
||||
marcello (Aug 27, 2005)
paintbbs doesn't have the watercolor tool redpanda is referring to...but if you want to mimic that, just use flow. it's like alpha in paintbbs.

I use Shi-painter most of the time... Lascaux is too complicated >__< okay, i admit, i'm too stupid. lol. But i hate the lines that keep appearing when you move your work (shi-p). Never got the chance to find out how paint bbs or other applets work though. lol

Yes, but Microsoft Word costs several hundred dollars. Lascaux is free to use.Most of people already have Microsoft Word (they use it for other purporses). I started a webpage with readers paintings, created using the new method in abstract art: A new kind of art |

have u ever studied abstract art, art history?

DieChan (Nov 13, 2005)
I use Shi Painter Pro, 'cause it's just what I'm used to. :P I can't stand applets with only two layers, it takes so much more time!

my New Kind of Art shall change the artworldAnother certified lunatic. Pollock's paintings are admired by millions of people, and your "new kind of art" had been seen by five. Don't you see a difference here, eh? |

When I started 4 years ago, I used OekakiBBS... It's tools were easy to learn and dominate... Six months ago when I changed of oekaki board I started to use Shi Painter. I had some problems at first, but then I managed to get along with it.
Then, like two months ago I found 2draw... when I read that OekakiBBS had problems I decided to give Lascaux a chance... now it's the only program I use. |
