there has to be some way we can fix the bug on shi painter (that one where you click undo and it erases your whole friggin picture) i know the easiest way to fix it is to just use the erase tool, but it's just easier to hit ctrl+z or undo or something, but when you do, it erases your friggin picture!

isnt there anyway the applet can be updated and that problem fixed or anything?

mazi (Feb 14, 2005)

  icon
Pence (Feb 14, 2005)
hmm that's never happend to me, but can't you just hit redo?
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Feb 14, 2005)
omg that happens?
  icon
Jakira (Feb 14, 2005)
no actually it only happens if you click on erase a couple times and then see the little skull and THEN try to erase!
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Feb 14, 2005)
no apparanelty mukumuku must have somethin up with her comp. if that happens to her when she hits undo but no one else has that problem.
  icon
Jakira (Feb 14, 2005)

  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Feb 14, 2005)

mukumuku (edited Feb 15, 2005)

  icon
Gigandas (Feb 15, 2005)
I use Shi-Paintyer all the time, and it's never happened to me.Dunno what the problem is....
  icon
Zack (Feb 16, 2005)
I've never heard of this bug, myself. You might try reinstalling Java, or getting the latest version if you don't have it.

Other than that, there's really not much that can be done, unless you want to go through all the trouble of reporting your bug to the original (Japanese, I think) developers of the applet. Marcello didn't make that one.

mmm..this thread make me think the applets are more than lines of code, a while ago i have a lot of troubles with shi painter, one of them was that (besides the loooong waiting times), from time to time, when i use the undo button a part or the whole image gone, more weird?, when i start to draw over the erased part it begans to appear...was crazy, one solution for me at least, before start drawing again was reduced/enlarge with the zoom button the image in the exact moment it happened, the image recompose and the error gone. maybe it helps. at first i think it was the mac plattform, but i think gigandas have a mac, so it isn´t.
  icon
Gigge (Feb 16, 2005)
You mean like this?

I had that happen for the first time with Lascaux the other night. The zoom didn't work at all between 100% and 400%. It worked perfectly below 100% and most of the time above 400%, but everything just went whack.

There was no solution for the error I had...it degraded rapidly. I tried submitting a couple of times and it would get about a fifth of the way through and stop uploading. And, eventually the screen got so you couldn't get some of the buttons to appear even by going over them.

I don't understand how to use Lascaus. I guess I'm not that good yet... yah.
  icon
Turtlebuster (Feb 16, 2005)
i'm hooked on lascaux... i can't even use my previously all time favorite painter app (MSPaint)
i tried oekaki, and if you don't mind me saying so I think you'd save time and trouble to make the switch too
  icon
Kilala (Feb 17, 2005)
I notcied something... people usally use lascaux for realilstic people. On oekaki, people usally draw anime. That's why I only use oekaki. Also I noticed that most people start there art carrier by drawing anime...

wow. your logic sucks.

me007 (Feb 17, 2005)
except for artists like gig, an ED, or Xod, Uppity (sp). Lascaux has a color scroll bar which really comes in handy for like drawing a face in color or something where you use a ton of colors and can compare them side by side which BBS doesnt have and Shi didnt used to. Plus Lascaux has a different feel to it. Donno why, but I like going back to Oekaki shi occasionally to try my hand at it again :). As for the error, I donno if it the computer, because as you said Muku, you have probably tryed it at Aims too. but again I have had problems with lascaux as well where the applet just completely stops running, though that hasnt happened to me recently. ummm.. heh I wish I could be more help. Sorry :(

  icon
mukumuku (Feb 18, 2005)
well either way, isnt there anything that anyone can come up with that may be wrong with the applet? i mean, any way we can fix it? cuz sure, i use the erase tool now, but hitting undo is sorta subconcious
  icon
marcello (Feb 18, 2005)
upgrade java? upgrade browser? use a different applet?
  icon
me007 (Feb 18, 2005)
hit your computer with a 20lbs sluge-hammer when it does it?
  icon
mukumuku (Feb 18, 2005)
well it just did it again! except this time i went to delete a layer, and it deleted everything....on all the layers...stupid thing...i dont like the other applets though
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Feb 19, 2005)
shi painter used to be all buggy for me where everytime i zoomed in a bunch of lines would appear all over and wouldnt go away unless i hit undo or coloured over them...
maybe you've just used really crappy computers everytime you tried to use it?
  icon
Nightmare (Feb 19, 2005)
It hasn't happend to me. I think it might be your web browser.
  icon
bakuraiscool (Feb 19, 2005)
Nothing happened to me, either.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Feb 19, 2005)
Here's a simple solution... use the very best applet here... Lascaux. If you don't know how to use it, there are some tutorials to help now, I think, but I don't know where they are. Someone might be able to give you a link to them. Otherwise, just go in there and play around till you figure it out. It's not difficult at all. It's well worth the effort. Now... Go!

Gigge (Feb 20, 2005)
I use Lascaux and it does the same thing.

marcello (Feb 20, 2005)
gigge: how much ram do you have, what kind of video card, and what version of java in what browser?
  icon
davincipoppalag (Feb 20, 2005)
I've never had any problems with Lascaux. Anyway..here's the link to the tutorial http://cellosoft.com/2draw/wiki/index.php/Lascaux_Sketch

Gigge (Feb 20, 2005)
Ram: 1 GB
Video card: NVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200
Java: Java2 in runtime environment 5.0
Browser: Netscape 7.2

The night that I took the pics I attached in the earlier post in this thread my processor was running at 4% capacity and my page files were using 484 MB out of 1.5 GB. All of my other programs ran fine.
  icon
marcello (Feb 20, 2005)
that's strange, because it sure looks like a video issue (not repainting correctly). it's a shot in the dark, but do you think it could be a video driver glitch?
  icon
Gigge (Feb 20, 2005)
Yes, it does. But, if you look at the screenshot, I had Adobe Photoshop open at the same time and it wasn't having that problem with my graphic files in that program. I would think that my video card would have trouble with those as well if it were having rendering issues. And the other tabbed items I had in the browser weren't having problems displaying, only Lascaux. So, it makes me think that it might not have been a browser issue either.

My video card driver is up-to-date. The old one wasn't compatible with some of the Sims stuff I do. I often have problems with Lascaux slowing down and doing some strange things like not handling layers correctly. I tried switching to Explorer for a while, but I didn't notice the difference. I tried Mozilla, but that browser sucked. I didn't notice a difference with Lascaux and it wasn't shockwave/flash friendly.

CLK_Design (Feb 20, 2005)
i never had the problem but if i use a layer in shi it somtimes goes funny on me lol
  icon
marcello (Feb 20, 2005)
well specifically a glitch between java and your video card... since java does things a bit differently when it comes to graphics.
  icon
Gigge (Feb 20, 2005)
Maybe I'll try a pic or two from the other computer sometime and see what happens.
