You shoiuld blur them together so it looks smooth. *Nod* Or just use a bigger brush and not such a dark red-brown color. Take the solid skin color then put it down an even amount.

Example: (Note, I'm not sure what this color makes, I'm just using random numbers.)
Red-225
Green- 215
Blue- 205

Change it to
Red- 205
Green- 195
Blue- 185

Then use the changed color for the shading.
