How do you guys draw your linees so smooth? I know I ask a lot of questions but that's how you learn right? -dies because I feel so hopeless-

if you say you suck to people, it makes people utomatically look at your peice and look for all the flaws. its the same with yourself, if you say your ugly, people will look for the flaws on you. have confidence. love yoruself and your work, and work harder, set goals that will make be a challenge, so once you finish those goals you will progress a whole lot faster. and better.

Get a sketchbook..do some sketches and try to get a style down. That's what i did...(if you call my art a 'style')

all the tools are there.. first of learning what each one does helps a ton, heck im still learning what the heck half of the tools can really do. Patience and practice are two of the main things.. insperation helps a lot too ;) so try and find some if you are having a hard time

DURR.. lol thanx... thanksgiving break gettin to me :P (there we go fixed it) yes iNsperation helps a lot some days when you just cant think of something to draw. On everything I start I say to myself "this is going to be my best picture yet" Now they sometimes dont turn out that way, but that mentality will push yourself to get better and better.. hope that helps :)

I feel so illiterate... :P o well.. paper and computer are fairly different. I can draw s*** on paper.. thats about it.. maybe higher quality s***.. but im a lot better on the computer. just practise techniques and dont give up or lose faith in yourself and you will get it

Yea..go get a pencil from school and some paper. Tape the paper together at the top and there is your sketchbook. That's what I had to do when I couldn't afford a sketchbook. You could also doodle on your school assignments. That's what I do.

oook. so you start off scribbling like mad. getting down shapes and structures and where the lines will be. make sure you have it all down to exactly where you want the lines to be before you start drawing them because if you want smooth lines, youre putting lots and lots of work into them and erasing them makes you want to cry. SO make sure its exactly where you want it first. then on the next layer up "sketch" in lines. like.. go back and fourth over the same line. i use the pen tool in shi-painter on full opacity. 2px for main lines, 1px for thinner more detailed stuff. put in your lines and then go over them with the eraser and smooth them out. take out any stray lines. you might need to add some more if you erase too much but thats all a part of it. work hard and you'll get lines.

if youre still at a loss i recommend watching the animations of someones drawings that you think have smooth lines. like hakkai, 'mando, furyofroy, quintessence, visceralvamp etc etc etc. 'kai is the masta of sexy lines. so go stalk her.

(and i think she did a line tutorial at some point that i found on another site when i was stalking her. i'll get back to you on that one though.)

When I get artist block I Just go buy a new shetch pad, and get a bic pen. And i draw as fast as I posibily can And I don't worry about my misstakes. I only spend about 2 to 3 mins on each page. And I draw until the whole shetch book in covered, this usally takes an hour or so. Then I draw on the back of the pages. After I do this I can draw anything. I improve dramaticly everytime I do this. Maybe this will help u too.

well, I draw my lines really smooth by drawing the basic line, going over it a few times with a fuzzy brush, and then making it smooth with an eraser.... thats why it takes me ages to do my lineart.... :P you have to have patience and one crapload of time on your hands... :) hope that helped.. :D

I'm with Mazi. Poor Mazi, at least I think. Every time this subject comes up, I look and wait for some one to say, " Talk to Mazi..." Then I fall on the floor laughing, because I think he must be saying, and now I see.....WTF. HA! HAAAAA! :} Patience, practice and the will to do it, a little real love for it helps too. That's all it takes. You don't need a kick ass computer and a Wacom tablet, that won't make you any better, just more frustrated at the fact that your not doing any better, and why....YOU DIDN"T PRACTICE.
BOTTOM LINE---------'nuff said.

Vera! You're not hopeless! At least you don't have a gallery filled with bunch of stickman drawings. lol You just need some practice (that's if you really wanna be good at it) and you're good at other things too so don't worry too much.

Kilala, what it really takes is (like what others have said) patience, confidence and passion for Art. Drawing online is a little different from drawing with a pencil on paper. I think drawing oline is less work because if you make a mistake, you don't make such a mess when erasing, you can also do layers of your lines, do a layer of dark lines and clean up some visible lines under those darker lines. lol That kind of stuff. Also, whether you're using a mouse or a tablet, which doesn't really make you any better with lineart (maybe a little more control? I dunno, I've never tried it), you have to be good at drawing first. All it takes is practice, practice, practice. If you really want to perfect a lineart, TAKE YOUR TIME. It doesn't matter if it takes you an hour and a half to complete it. You know what they say: "Quality is better than quantity." Not everybody draws fast and can do a nice job in such a short time (unless you're incredibly gifted). But just keep working on it if you really want to be good at lineart. I think lineart is cool too but can be very frustrating. Anyhow, you seem to enjoy art a lot, especially anime stuff, so good luck!
