should have done this before, but just to make sure nobody thinks this is a terrorist or that i am a terrorist sympathizer...this should put the painting into perspective a little bit
this is a quote, an excerpt from an essay by insurgent subcomandante marcos of the Zapatistas released in 94

"The oldest of the old in the Indigenous communities say that there once was a man named Zapata who rose up with his people and sang out, "Land and Freedom!" These old campesinos say that Zapata didn't die, that he must return. These old campesinos also say that the wind and the rain and the sun tell the campesinos when to cultivate the land, when to plant and when to harvest. They say that hope is also planted and harvested. They also say that the wind and the rain and the sun are now saying something different: that with so much poverty, the time has come to harvest rebellion instead of death. That is what the old campesinos say. The powerful don't hear; they can't hear, they are deafened by the brutality that the Empire shouts in their ears. 'Zapata,' insists the wind, the wind from below, our wind."

Excellent work. Pretty creepy how the focus is on the gun. He doesn't make me feel liberated.

Very nice subject. The way you focused on the gun really captures your eye. I love this one, too.

Where is all this talent coming from? Everyone's so good...jeez. I can't handle it!

That's a really cool picture, it really draws your attention to the gun right off and then you see who's holding it... very effective picture.

This is a great picture, mister. It seems like an old news magazine picture.

"They already hold Spain hostage. It doesn't matter whether it was right or wrong for Spain to withdraw its troops from Iraq. Spain did it because the Muslim terrorists bombed their train and told them to withdraw the troops. Anything else they want Spain to do, will be done. Spain is finished."
misterjimsan (edited Jul 14, 2004)
ah yes, well i should have made this clear in the first place that this is not a terrorist, nor muslim, or arab. he is a part of a rebel group from southern mexico, chiapas to be specific. they are made up of indigenous poor campesinos who feel they have been oppressed by the rich and powerful for long enough...

but since you mention the spain elections, it is disputable whether the terrorists directly influenced the election, or if it was a result of the incumbent government's handling of the bombing, since many see their initial blaming of the basque separatists as a dishonest way to protect themselves from the consequences of their own actions regarding iraq. either way, it produces the same result where terrorists think they can hold nations hostage and influence elections. I'm not sure that would work in other nations, but I'm quite sure it wouldn't work in the US, different kind of people, and who's the only antiwar candidate, right....not like anything is going to help get nader elected. eeeh yeah, sorry to ramble, i like politics...

Great piece. I watched the animation. You wiped out a background guy. The gun must have backfired.
Fin_beast (Jul 15, 2004)
This picture makes me feel very uneasy. It's scary how it makes you feel like you are being threatened.
I really like this picture and it's one picture that I think should have a place in the showcase.
I may try something like this, to try and get the same effect.
Ari (Jul 15, 2004)
Lovely picture... Wish I could draw that well...
misterjimsan: No, Nader can't win. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush, so vote Kerry ^_^
Xodiak (Jul 19, 2004)
Wow, very realistic drawing, the focus on the firearm makes it so great.
Oh and I saw the decapitation video on a website, without any censoring.
