Trying to draw http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/users/bresolin/images.varie/mantis.big.jpg"
I was desperate for the large canvas size, so I don't care how long it takes me, i'm gonna make this perfect, and worthy of advanced!

I found a praying mantis on the footpath outside school today so i picked it up and carried it all the way to the mall where i catch a bus home from. All my friends rejected me though 'cause they thought it was creepy and they wanted to squash it. Oh well. I named him Archie and let him go in the rose bushes in our front garden.

Comments and suggestions EXTREMELY welcome 'cause i want to make this best I poss. can.

Well, you're off to a good start, Pam. Some of your *bug* pictures are really impressive. *makes note to self not to post comments in the wee hours of the morning*

I looked at your reference picture, and I think it might prove to be a little difficult to do a really good drawing from the photograph, because the majority of it is pretty blurry. If you do more detail than the photo and don't blur it, it'll probably be good, though. You seem to have the proportions correct, and your palette is good.

I think you're right about the blurring DBA...cheers :D

i agree, it looks like you are off to a good start, i love praying mantises, and i love to watch them hunt grasshoppers and eat them!

Finished off some colouring...mucked around >:P

Still open to comments and criticism. Oh man, did I spell that right?

I love praying mantises. My grandfather once took a cocoon into the house and when it hatched, there were thousands of them all over the house.. or so Grandma claimed. She wasn't happy about it at all. I'm no drawing expert so I can't criticize or advise but to look like the reference picture, it needs to be blurrier..all but the head. You're certainly off to a great start. :)

I think he needs to behave in class and work on his penmanship. This is a good start miss Pam. I have a couple of these living in the azelea bushes by my house. They are very alien looking things but they are beautiful in their own way and majorly deadly to other bugs. ( I think Cindy is related to the mantis family) <ducks...

great mantis so far, wild tones and designs, love the eyes.... funny background, love the little "hi mum" lol...

Hmm would probably look better if he wasn't standing infront of all the graffiti... seems to take away from the nice picture you have going. I agree with both Momma and DB.. it just depends what direction you were wanting to go. If you want it to look like a real bug sitting infront of you then more detail would definitely be in order, however, if you want it to look like a photo of the mantis.. make it blurry. Whichever way ya go, right now it's off to a good start!

I was bored, Aubrey. Lmao, the graffiti ain't permanent ;P

I do sorta intend to do more on this, it's just it's been in my studio for ages and i couldn't draw anything else unless i "finished" something.

ah hell, just leave the BG black and call it done, it's great

LOL, I like this one. Now, what I see here is a Mantis teacher standing in front of a blackboard that a buncha little aphids wrote all over.
